Season 18 Ep.09 When Rubber Meets the Road Jan. 13 2025

Quote

Murdoch investigates the suspicious passing of a worker who was leading a rubber factory strike.

I guess none of us has too much to say about this episode. It was a good filler episode with a decent plot even though the perp was pretty obvious.  And Miss Cherry was her usual self, helpful but at a price.

The lack of regulars really left holes in the episode.  We didn't even have Higgins this time. At least we had a decent amount of Watts. I suppose they brought Roberts in to help fill the void but we don't know him well enough yet.

Anyhow, next week's episode should be very interesting.

Yeah, it was a good episode. Not much happened. It was great to see Watts and him going undercover. No Higgins, no George. Roberts is fine and a good addition. But I miss the regulars. Roberts met Miss Cherry I feel like the police should fill all new employees in on her when they get hired. I still really love Choi. He wasn't intimdated by the usual threats from rich.

Season 18 Ep. 10 The Men Who Sold the World (1) Jan. 20 2025

Quote

Landmark 300th episode: William and Julia celebrate their wedding anniversary in London, England. Murdoch's reunion with Ogden is disrupted by the passing of another guest at an English inn.

I really enjoyed this episode.  Didn't realize I had missed Julia so much but it was so good to see her.  Of course there would be a murder on their anniversary vacation!

I figured out who the actual murderer was pretty quickly (probably we all did) but it is scary to think there is such a group of men like this league who go about fomenting wars for their own gain.  I'm pretty sure they do really exist.

And, now, with the mention of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand we know that WWI will soon be here.  I wonder how that will affect our group.  I can just picture Julia heading to Belgium where the Germans commit so many atrocities against the civilians, because that is the sort of brave thing she would do (total speculation on my part). I can see the show getting more interesting as the war progresses.

The B plot was amusing and lighthearted enough to counteract the A plot. Brackenreid should have still let them all shout "surprise" for Margaret.

Can't wait for next week's episode.

This is the same couple that interrupted their own wedding to solve a murder, so murder solving on their anniversary is very on brand 😄 This also reminded me of one of my favorite episodes, "Honeymoon in Hampshire," where Georgie and Effie solve a murder while honeymooning in the English countryside.

I loved this episode so much. I found Julia's eye-rolling at William's fanboying over meeting the great detective Ronald Perle delightful. Donal Logue has become one of those actors that I'm always delighted to see when he pops up.

I also enjoyed the B story about Margaret's surprise party. Watts' tussling with the decorations was funny, but I found it weird that he - and Higgins - didn't have any lines.

Nefarious businessmen running a shadow government? Murdoch Mysteries is suddenly hitting very close to home!

Maybe Murdoch should contact Terence Meyers about the shadowy group since he's been working to keep that from happening.

I loved Murdoch fanboying over Perie. That was so adorable.

Yeah the murderer was very obvious especially when they mentioned the kid's father's sudden death.

I love Brackenreid throwing Margaret a surprise birthday party. That was really sweet. Poor Effie trying to keep it a surprise. Although when Margaret said she was leaving I would have just told her about the party. After how bad the Christmas visit went I'm surprised Margaret would chose to go to her sisters. Don't do that Margaret. You don't deserve that.

I guess they are going to do WWI. I've been wondering the last couple years as it gets closer or if they'd end the series just before it. That should be really good. It'll be interesting to see how it changes things.

I just finished rewatching the one with fortune tellers and stuff where Margaret has a vision of WWI with Bobby fighting.

Season 18 Ep. 11 Bombshells (2) Jan. 27 2025

Quote

Murdoch, Ogden and Susannah narrowly escape after an explosion.

This was a good episode although I didn't like it as well as last week's. The suffragette movement is very interesting but I didn't like them using violence and also I hoped for more about the impending WWI.

I wonder if we'll see Julia again this season (or ever). I hope we do - I've really missed her.

Poor Mrs. Hart! Will her sad past continue to haunt her? I was so disappointed in Isaiah when he just said goodbye to Violet when he learned that she was married.  But he redeemed himself very well by getting his friends together to force the husband (forgotten his name already) to sign the divorce paper.  Sometimes violence is justified.

Season 18x11, "Bombshells"

Same as you, Trey, I liked this episode, but last week's had me on the edge of my seat.

I've really loved having Julia Ogden back on my screen. Hadn't realized how much I've been missing her presence. Hoping we at least see her once again this season.

Felt so bad for Violet. I hope that is the last we see of her (now ex) husband. He was awful. Glad Isaiah came back to her and helped run her husband out of town. I loved the two episodes where they teamed up to solve a mystery, so I'd love to see more of that.

Cool to see Zoie Palmer (from my beloved Dark Matter) as Lucy, the head of the suffragettes. I had a feeling the older lady (Christabel) was involved in the victim's death, but I what I didn't see coming was Lord Whatshisname orchestrating the murder. Should've known he wasn't interested in helping the suffragettes.

I hope that's the last of Violet's husband. I'm so tired of stories of her past.

It was great to see Julia. I'm surprised she was part of smashing windows with the suffragettes. Violence isn't going to help the women get the vote. It just makes things worse.

That's pretty bold for her. I like them bringing up the force feedings that was really horrible.

I figured the Lord was up to something. No way he changes his mind that quickly on suffragettes.

Susannah only gets cuter.

I was pleasantly surprised when this episode opened in London.  I thought we were only getting one episode with Helene Joy, so I was happy when I realised we were getting another.  However, it seems William is returning home, so that's probably it for her for the season.  If the show gets renewed I do hope that she will return.

I liked the second Julia episode better than the first one.  Mainly because I can't stand Donal Logue and I was annoyed that what I thought was Helene's only episode this season seemed more like her taking a backseat to Donal Logue and William.  I liked that in this suffragette episode it was more of her storyline than William's since she was the connection to all of these people.

The Violet storyline... ugh.  She has been shady, then good, then bad, then good, then bad, then good again.  I'm glad they finally decided she is on the side of good, but why the manufactured drama?  I call BS on this husband, they just wanted to create yet another issue for her.  I guarantee that at the time she was married to Arthur they never even contemplated that she was married before.  It's 1912.  She has been on the show for years now, and I think each season is a new year.  An American Black lady with no formal medical education becomes the city coroner for Toronto, and nothing is ever written about her?  Wouldn't this husband of hers have been searching for her all this time?  I feel like he should have found her almost immediately.

I have to assume budget is still an issue for this show.  Makes me worry about its future.  Choi and Brackenreid and Watts didn't appear in this episode.  Higgins hasn't appeared in several episodes.   I miss Higgins.  Why has Effie appeared so many times this season?  Why can't she be offscreen like George?  I'd rather see Higgins and Ruth instead of Effie.

Is the Tucker storyline done?  He got fired by Choi, went to the mob guy for a job, who declined to hire him.  Is that the last we have seen of him?  I assume he has to come back but I hope whenever he comes back, it gets resolved neatly.

"The Star of Mandalay" (Season 18x12)

Enjoyed this one. Liked seeing Watts paired up with Margaret. I love when they try out new pairings like that.

Also loved Choi in this one, particularly his sparring with Wolfie Mandelbaum. Murdoch's "Albert?" to the Inspector was amusing.

Violet and Watts trying to spook Henry was hilarious. I need more Violet/Watts team-ups!

Loved that little shoutout.

I am not too familiar with the lyrics of Alanis Morrisette's songs so thanks for pointing that out.

It was a good episode, a good mix of mystery and humour.

I was totally gobsmacked when Choi stayed with Wolfie.

This was a fun episode. Of course Higgins breaks his promise not to touch anything. I knew he would but didn't expect him to dance with a bear and ride a horse. That was funny. I loved when the Mummy came out of the sarcophagus.

I loved Violet and Watts scarying Higgins about the rash.

Choi hooked up with the woman thief? I wasn't expecting that but then again maybe that's why she called him Albert. I now have so many questions for Choi.

Margaret and Watts was unusual pairing that was interesting.

As someone from Scandnavian decent I really wanted to try the smorgasbord. It looked good.
