S02.E03: Old Unresolved Sh*t

My initial reaction to Season 2 is the same at this point, 3 episodes in, it's lost its awesomeness and I'm sad about that. So far, it's like the Keystone Cops meet the Marx Brothers...in Mehico. Just, no. I haven't quit yet, but this season needs to right itself, and quickly!

I agree. The Mexico storyline and Maddie at the wellness center is boring. I hope it doesn't take them 5 episodes to get back over the border. I am glad they didn't kill off Sally.

It's just not interesting without having the trio working together going after Maddie, there was a clear motivation for them last season.

I think you're right about that. Hopefully the situation with Ezra's parents will provide that motivation and make the season more interesting. In addition to the lack of motivation I think another problem is the separated storylines for the characters. So far we've basically had four groups of characters that have had completely separate storylines that didn't interact with each other: the trio in Mexico, Maddie in the cult or whatever it is, Max with the Doctor and Sally and finally Patrick at the FBI. Based on the events in this episode it looks like that's also going to change.

The high point was Maddie imagining her funeral attendees. It's curious that she seemed more upset that Ezra might be killed. She clearly had a deeper connection with him when the show started. I wonder if that deepened during the con last season. I don't want them to be "soul mates" or OTP, but I kind of like that they get each other. Although, Maddie seems like she was running from something all along.

As usual, Josh is an idiot. Did he think he was Jason Bourne? He got his nose broken...again. If this gets more seasons, I wouldn't mind this being a running gag every year.

I really do need all of the groups to start interacting with each other.

The problem is that the premise of the series plot does not work with multiple seasons, so they need to drag shit out like this. Colour me bored after the fun season 1.

I'm not exactly rushing to watch every week either, but am a little curious how it will be wrapped up (or would have been if they stuck to one season). Maddie being caught by the FBI and the bumblers going back to their regular lives? The bumblers also being arrested? The doctor exacting his revenge on Maddie? The four of them getting away clean and teaming up for a life of con jobs?

None of those are particularly appealing -- not sure what ending would make me happy!

I agree the pace has been a bit slow since the Bumblers have been in Mexico. Someone mentioned earlier that splitting up all the main characters like this isn't a good move and I agree. But not only have they split up so much of the main cast but they've even split Jules, Ezra and Richie WHILE they've been in Mexico together and that was a huge mistake imo.

Case in point, I don't care about what's going on with Ezra and his magic pixie dream con artist girlfriend who is 100% gonna stab him in the back at some point now that she knows he's got access to a 1 million dollar ring. So I'm not too sure why we're spending so much time on that relationship when it's going to implode.

The charm and magic of this show is when the trio is together and fumbling their way through this con artist terrain having each other's backs the whole way through.

I really hope that Ezra's family being in trouble refocuses the show. They also seem to be introducing Jules' family as well by way of her sister it seems and I love Rachel Skarsten so I hope her character is involved more this season.

All in all, I'm not calling foul on s2 JUST YET because they can still make this work but they need to pick up the pace and fast.

Also I'm betting Vegas money that the lady who was so desperately trying to get Maddie to stay at the Wellness Center is either FBI or working for the Doctor.

Splitting the characters up or having the characters get stuck in another country is an unfortunate trope and it usually has the same problems with pacing and saddling the respective shows with a lot of pointless subplots.  Sadly it's very common in other shows as well.

I'll echo what others here are saying in that I hope the trio's return to the States makes the show less disjointed. I was interested in Ezra's family and it looks like they're being brought back into the fold. I liked seeing more of Jules 'backstory. And Patrick, too.

I'm really interested to know what Maddie is thinking. I did wonder if she wouldn't get caught at that holistic place since Lenny's ex saw her get into that car. The wind chime guy is a regular vendor so that connection isn't so hard to track down.

I also like that the agents are back in the game. I find it odd that Patrick didn't know where Maddie is from. The trio found her with fewer resources. Maddie jonson is her real name. But then, they also didn't realize that Jules and Richard were also spouses. So maybe not the brightest agents.
