S06: Miss Darienne Lake

It occurred to me last night that she has a similar face to Dawn French: very elastic, I guess, expressive and versatile. Perfect for comedy.

As with Top Model, until a big girl wins I'm going to be mad that they keep casting big girls -- meaning, to this point it seems like the most conventionally "good" body has an advantage, in which case make it a regular beauty pageant, you know? But maybe it's Darienne's year!

I agree, but I don't think they're as automatically screwed on Drag Race as they are on Top Model. At least I cling to that notion based on Latrice Royale, who got close to the end and whose biggest criticism as I recall (her mask-y makeup, right?) had nothing to do with her size. I hope she's not the exception that proves the rule. Time will tell with Darienne.

I won't be surprized id Darienne is in the top three.  Her edit seems pretty basic at this point and it would make sense for Ru to have a true "big girl" be in the top three for a change.   Thank's a lot for the Dawn French connection.   She can be funny but seems to always suddenly appear in most British TV programs with that twisting demented face and "always the same" schtick.

She has a really nasty jealous streak in her that I am not liking. It is kind of a shame because she was a pre-season favorite and she is from my area, so I really wanted to like her. I hated that her latest target is Milk and each episode she is coming across less funny and just more bitter than anything.

I concur about everything, evilandproud. I really want to like her, but between coming for Milk and coming for Dela, I'm not sure I can.

See I think the thing that bothers me most about her nastiness is that she isn't willing to say it to your face. She talks all kinda of shit about any queen that happens to do well, but she saves it for the talking heads. Until her uncalled for snap at Ben this episode, she seemed like she was trying to play the 'jolly' role on the show.

If you're going to be all bitter, at least a) have the nerve to tell the person why you're treating them this way, and b) make it funny!

I see that I'm not the only one that finds her rather nasty.  (and not in a bitchy fun way).  She certainly isn't going for Miss Congeniality that's for sure!

She went from pretty annoying to a straight up villain for me. The fact that she is picking on Ben of all people at this point has solidified her in my mind as just kind of a skank. I thought Latrice was going to have a little competition towards being the only likable big girl that's ever been on this show but I sure was wrong.

Honey , be careful what you say about women of a certain age and their cougary  daydreams, because guess how many of us watch your ass every Monday night.?What an unnecessary crack.

I've seen some comparing Darienne's brand of meanness with what Bianca does. I don't think it's an accurate comparison at all. Here's why.

Bianca is aggressive about speaking her mind and calling out bullshit. If you're saying something that she doesn't like, she'll cut you off and tell you to cut the bullshit. It's enjoyable, especially to watch her do it to people who can be frustrating. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets annoying to be around 24/7, but all drag queens can get annoying in large doses.

Darienne, on the other hand, is sassy to hurt people. She likes to throw jabs when Ben seems to be too pleased with him/herself. She's not calling Ben out, she's just taking an opportunity to insult her any chance she gets. That's not Bianca. Bianca's is a type of tough love, in which you tell someone to cut out the obnoxious behavior, but also let them be them, and give them encouragement when they need it. Darienne doesn't want Ben to do well. Her motivations are plainly to hurt Ben, and to make herself feel better.

So Bianca's bitchiness >>>>>>>> Darienne's.

Just an unnecessary joy suck. Good god. I can handle Bianca's fortifying  tough talk, but the above sounds like outwardly directed self- hatred.
'Other than the drop in IQ and leaving the toilet seat up..." FUCK YOU! How dare you! I wish Chaz would have popped her one!

I realize she has a problem with her large thighs, but seriously, I wish she could find a way to sit that doesn't make me worry that we are going to see her junk. Ugh.

I am fully aware that I might be too far gone on the hate train to be able to look at anything she says or does objectively. With that said, I don't believe for one second that she all of a sudden is totally cool with getting criticized, gained some self awareness, and is fine with seeing people do better than her. I think she is too much of a chickenshit to act the way she does in confessionals to the girls face or she realized that she was coming across as fairly awful and is trying to do damage control. 

 

Obviously I am sad to see Ben go.
