S02.E04: Ronald Reagan Library

Recommended Posts

The scene at the end with Ken giving Christine the Reagan bracelet was everything. My eyes filled with tears instantly. I sound like a broken record, but Louie Anderson is killing this role. I wish this show was just called Christine Baskets and it'd be 22 minutes of her shopping at Costco and talking to customers and I think I'd love it even more.

I don't laugh to much during the show (though it is funny) but at the end of most episodes, I feel like my heart is breaking. This one was no different.

I love the delicate humor of this show, it's realistic and quirky.

Since I live only a few miles away from it, I do not think that was the actual Ronald Reagan Library. Hubby and I are such location nerds we're going to have to rewatch and see.

The bracelet scene was such a fantastically touching moment.  I knew that I should have seen it coming, but I didn't.  That's one of the reasons this show is so much more than it appears to be.  One of my friends, who doesn't read nuance well, finds this show boring. Wha???  Louie Anderson's oh so subtle and brilliant facial movements speak volumes and volumes of dialogue never needed.  I almost feel a little bit of sympathy for Zack G. because Louie has just about stolen this show.  I still watch for Chip and Martha, but what can I say? Every time Mrs. Baskets is on screen I am mesmerized.  It was also so nice to see two people treat each other with such kindness and genuine affection.  Mrs. Basket and her new friend, ugh..I can't remember his name, were worlds apart politically and yet they got past their differences and enjoyed a wonderful day together.

Yeah, this show has made me cry, too.

Ooo! Let me know! I know the interior certainly wasn't -- that Bedtime for Bonzo display looked way too bargain basement -- but I thought maybe the outside of it was? With the piece of the Berlin Wall?

I also love Martha Kelly so much -- what another understated gem. Thankfully, it looks like she'll be back next week.

I wish they'd make Baskets: The Movie and give Louie Anderson an Oscar to go with his Emmy.

Yes, I was so happy there was a lot of Christine in this. She's such a believable character. I loved how she and Ken interacted. The glares she gave him when he said something pro-Democratic or anti-Republican just cracked me up. Fabulous.

I'm also glad we saw that Morpheus's death affected Chip so much. I appreciated all his flashbacks and nightmares. Too often in TV shows and movies characters don't seem to suffer any ill effects from witnessing a death. Also, I didn't realize that Christine didn't know about it. Her reaction was touching.

I loved the scene with Morpheus's family. Very sweet.

Such a wonderful show.

Oh, and I was trying to figure out exactly what Christine said in the beginning -- "We are now going to be on an upward trajectredy." How ever it was that she pronounced trajectory was hilarious.

On second viewing, I see that the building Christine is pointing at when she says she sees the RR Library is not the library, but the medical offices where my doctor is actually located.

I love that Christine made a new friend. I just wish he didn't live so far away. She could use someone in her life who is kind to her. Even if they never visit each other, I hope that they call or email or stay in touch. I think that they could both use the emotional support. Knowing Christine, she will never tell anyone at home the full truth about what happened to Chip. Ken knows what she went through and doesn't judge her since his daughter is in even more trouble.

I loved that they were both able to see past their political preferences and enjoy their time at the museum together. When he initially changed his mind about going, I thought he was just going to mock Reagan the entire time so it was nice to see them gently ribbing each other. It was also hilarious to see how into the museum Christine was. I always find it adorable when people geek out over something they really love.

I agree that it was good to see how Chip was affected by his friend's sudden death. Too often on tv shows, things go back to normal in the next episode so it was realistic to see Chip's reaction.

Christine calling Chip's new phone while they were both in the car was a total mom thing to do! "I just want to make sure it works!"

Yeah, I haven't been to the Reagan Library, but I'm gonna go ahead and say they don't have an expensive display of Bedtime for Bonzo either.
