I've worked for the government for thirty years. Trust me on this. 2 Link to comment

I can appreciate that the former cop in him wants or feels he should take the lead, but really he sucks at it. Watching him go back and forth season after season make me dislike the character. how did he get to be leader? Shane was doing fine, but once Rick ambled out of the truck everyone's head turned like they were on swivels and suddenly Rick was the leader. All these years later, I still don't get that. 1 Link to comment
ghoulina April 27, 2017 Share April 27, 2017 Shane had them hanging out at the quarry. After it was attacked, I think people began to doubt his decision making. Also, when Sophia went missing, it became pretty clear to me that Shane really only cared about Lori and Carl, not necessarily the entire group. Maybe that had been apparent to others for awhile. I always thought he just kind of used the group in as much as they could be a larger protective barrier for the people he cared about. Rick, on the other hand, seemed to truly value every member of the group. Link to comment
nodorothyparker April 27, 2017 Share April 27, 2017 It probably didn't help that in one of the first scenes of Shane in camp where he wasn't banging Lori in the woods they could hear the original Atlanta scavenging crew on the radio talking about being in trouble and he was very emphatic that too bad so sad they were on their own. There would be no rescue attempt. He consistently showed in those first episodes that while he was good at organizing he was pretty quick to write anyone and everyone off. While I didn't actually disagree with him that with a poorly trained group and limited ammo he couldn't be running off to try to save everyone who got separated for one reason or another, it was bad optics compared to Officer Friendly who led a rescue party back for Merle of all people about five minutes after he showed up. 2 Link to comment
