Michel November 10, 2016 Share November 10, 2016 From TV Guide: Quote Phil considers becoming a member at Jay's favorite refuge. Claire is mistaken about her influence on Alex's choices. Cam holds back on telling Mitchell what his play is really about. Manny and Joe threaten Gloria's night to herself. This wasn't bad. Mitchell got some well-deserved revenge on Cam over his past shenanigans by messing up his big moment in the play (and I like Cam, mind you), Claire finds out she's not all that, and some nice Jay/Phil moments. And hey, Alex didn't get dumped on, for once! Pretty good episode. I give it a B+. Would've given it the full A, but no Lily in sight. 4 Link to comment
kat165 November 10, 2016 Share November 10, 2016 I really enjoyed Phil and Jay at the club. Ty Burrell just kills it even when the script is poor. Which this one wasn't. A few questions for our more observant viewers: 1. Did Sophia darken her hair? 2. What 9 to 5 job does Hailey have? Is she talking about her phone thing job, I forget what she called it, where she gets people to go to places, like restaurant openings, etc. 3. I know Alex left school because she had mono but she seems better now. Why is she getting a job/ thinking about a community college? What doesn't she go back to the school she was in. Isn't she too smart for a community college? 2 Link to comment

Alex mentioned being a biochemistry major at Cal Tech, so she hasn't left school. She's just taking the semester off. Edited November 10, 2016 by Michel 3 Link to comment

Isn't she too smart for a community college? I agree; this episode was solid, and the Jay/Phil story worked the best. Even Luke wasn't terribly annoying and actually seemed competent at his job at the country club. I don't think Sofia darkened her hair from last episode; it may be darker than in the earlier episodes though. Hailey's 9 to 5 job is being a club/event promoter. I think the joke is she works from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. As for Alex, she missed the first couple of weeks at Caltech, which would have been too much for her to catch up on. The job/community college class is just a way to bide her time until the next term begins at the start of the year. I so identified with Mitch and the interactive theater experience. I've been drug to some of those and always find them horribly uncomfortable and not at all entertaining. Edited November 10, 2016 by Lizzing 8 Link to comment
readster November 10, 2016 Share November 10, 2016 The problem is, Cam still doesn't get it after all this time. Mitch hates these things and isn't going to change. I did like how Mitch got back at him. I'm fine with interactive stage, but I enjoy that stuff. My wife and my cousin, they hate it with a burning passion. I would never drag them to something like that. 5 Link to comment
ItCouldBeWorse November 10, 2016 Share November 10, 2016 I thought it strange that Phil got locked into yet another enclosed space and didn't comment on it at all. Yes, he was visible to Jay the entire time, unlike when he was trapped in the closet, but I would think there would have been some kind of call back. 1 Link to comment

Obviously she could bathe for hours while Joe and Manny are in school every day. So, let's say the issue is that she wants to drink wine, bathe, and then fall asleep. And, she wants to do it when Jay isn't around. Presumably, Joe is usually in bed by a certain hour. Does having Manny in the house seriously preclude her from relaxing in the tub? Will he really barge in on her if she tells him she is taking a bath? Isn't he equally likely to call her on the phone when he is at a party due to his customary problems? There are certain things she might not want to do when her 17-18 year old son is in the house, but taking a bath should not be one of them. Finally, if Joe were to wake up when she is in the tub, she would have Manny to take care of him so that she would not have to get out. We've seen that Manny knows how to watch TV with Joe! 5 Link to comment
readster November 10, 2016 Share November 10, 2016 I think with Gloria, she wanted a "house to myself" night/day. Where, no kids, no stupid teen drama, nothing with Jay doing something she just like or finds annoying and can just do her own thing. Basically an unplug, I got that, but it came out very weird when all was said and done. 9 Link to comment
Gulftastic November 10, 2016 Share November 10, 2016 I loved Mitch hamming it up as the dying school janitor. And the awful play was spot on too. Phil's eyebrow slide down the glass was marvellous. 13 Link to comment
qtpye November 11, 2016 Share November 11, 2016 I understand she can not get into a bath and relaxing because the four year old is running around, but I did not get the Manny issues. She could just talk to him about the embarrassment in the morning. Manny is also old enough to understand, his mother needs some relaxations time and it would be nice if he looked after Joe, so she could take a bath and fall asleep. I wish they would make him a little less self centered. 5 Link to comment
Gulftastic November 11, 2016 Share November 11, 2016 You are right, and given how they've characterised Manny, he'd probably be giving his Mum tips on making the bath more relaxing! 4 Link to comment
DrSpaceman73 November 12, 2016 Share November 12, 2016 Yeah I didn't get the Gloria story for the reasons mentioned Phil always nails it in these situations. really don't like Cam. I would be so pissed if someone dragged me to something like that and didn't tell me. 1 Link to comment

Cam thinks that eventually Mitch will love what he does, no matter how off the wall and at times, completely stupid it will be and Lily will follow suit. Mitch keeps believing that Cam will get over himself from Clown College to his theatre pieces that make things all about him. It also goes hand in hand with Manny, no one cares about his stuff anymore from his "old soul" to his "stupid panics". Even Gloria the last few years stopped treating Manny as "special". Yes, she still has episodes where she goes over protective, but it's as a mom, not as someone fed up with his antics. Something I think the writers have missed was just having Manny and Cam do their antics with each other, they are the most alike, have similar passions and so forth. However, they have showed it on several occasions, Cam hates Manny's stuff more than Mitch hates Cam's stuff. Which doesn't make sense, considering half the stuff Cam has pulled off the last few years. I know it's the writing, but at what point do Cam and Manny don't get it through their heads and just stop trying to pull their family into their antics when they clearly hate them, have told them in their face, shown their dislike for them and yet they keep trying? Eventually someone gets it in their head: "Maybe I should stop." 3 Link to comment

readster November 16, 2016 Share November 16, 2016 A few times that Manny has brought up his plays, shows, ect and Cam either ignores him and pretends if he doesn't respond, Manny will stop talking about it. 1 Link to comment

I only recall Cam doing it when he was involved in the production of the plays and Cam ignored him/changed the conversation so he didn't have to tell Manny that he sucks. 1 Link to comment
