I'm confused. I thought the assistant said that Neil was caught having sex with Melanie. Was she just mistaken or did he have sex with both Melanie and Amanda?

It's a confusing mess, possibly both since it seems like he slept around.

Next episode: Detective Cornell tells Jennifer " sweetheart, you think you're screwed up? You got nothing on these idiots I've been investigating. Yes, including the last homicide".

TV people: no more hearing them crunching food!

I bet Patrick can't buy a suit without getting arrested for being involved in a sweatshop.

I think the assistant overheard Kate talking and say sister in law and assumed it was Melanie. Also I believe when Eric saw Amanda fighting with Neil right after he told her about the money/Patrick/Neil he put two and two together.

Did someone open a whorehouse and not tell anyone?

That assistant is looking more and more guilty to me.  She always seems to be in the right place to "overhear" something.  Maybe Kate was the same way.  She had something on the assistant and well if I learned anything from this show it's pushing someone off a roof during a pretty effective way to kill them.

Really a whorehouse?  Heh bad wife needs to make some cash for bad son considering both of them aren't exactly thought of too highly.  Well Cornell's entire investigation might be moot.  The entire family might just be going to prison for tax evasion....and running a whore house.

I really like Michael Ealy and Terry O'Quinn, but this story is just so dull. I can't stand the actor that plays the cop missing his daughter (I know he is fairly well known, I just think he constantly overacts). I hate that they are making Kate some kind of saint who only looks out for other people-why can't she just be human? I agree the assistant is in on something, she is just everywhere in this.

ITA, the storylines aren't interesting at all, the mystery is fairly weak as is the filler subplots.

I see a lot of people are not enjoying this season, but I think I like it better than season 1.  Ben drove me up a wall.  While it does annoy me a bit that Kate is constantly cast as an angel, I like the characters and the motivations better than last season.  I'm looking forward to see how this season plays out.

Am I supposed to like her and overlook her many lies and deceptions? Maybe it's the actress and her angular, pointy face, but her flashbacks annoy me.

I think the problem is that Ben, while annoying, was much more proactive and there was more of a sense of urgency in finding the killer with the media and almost everyone against him.

Whereas Eric is just bouncing from one suspect to another and we get dogpiled Kate's ridiculous never ending secrets and off tangent subplots like Cornell's family melodrama or that cop's.

The show is going out of its way to literally make Kate/Melanie a madonna/whore dichotomy. I find myself siding with Melanie just because she is attacked so frequently and so many of the "good" guys annoy me. Can't the police find out where the father was without asking him? Isn't asking usually to verify whether he will tell the truth or not? Why would you lie to your kids about a cancer diagnosis if they are inheriting your business? And I have gone through far too many times where I knew people who were receiving treatments and there is no hiding what is happening. Unless he's telling the truth and someone else (maybe the mother?) is the one with cancer.

And who asked for Lewis' character's personal life?

I didn't watch last season so wasn't sure if that was an ongoing storyline. I don't care about her personal life but I guess it's good to know she displays the same phlegmatic, low affect responses there. Wouldn't want to speak in anything other than a mumbling monotone.

Last season we saw her visit her daughter in prison once. Apparently she is the one who sent her there, so I guess it is a continuing storyline to some degree.

Thanks, Bwill3133. That makes sense.

I agree that the assistant is somehow involved in the murder.

I don't care for either of the missing daughter sub-plots -- Cornell's and the NYC detective's (Danny?). At least Cornell's subplot seemed to wrap up...OK, now get back to the murder investigation.

Wow, Patrick is really stupid and gullible, and his wife is running a whorehouse. So I guess Melanie is now number one suspect in Kate's murder?

I'm mostly continuing to watch this show to find out the ending, but it is really hard to stay interested in it every week. Maybe it's because none of the characters seem that compelling as people to care about.
