This might be it for Gerard Butler, for whom it's been pretty much downhill since 300. But the movie justified its existence because from it came one of the best (bad) reviews ever. Or at least since Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

Oh, I didn't mean that he'd never work again. He's just not a top tier leading man anymore. Low-Budget VOD movies are how I see his future.

They really upped the violence in this. I think Gerard was acting out his Taken fantasy.

Why was this movie even made? Didn't the first one tank or was it so incredibly awful that I just hoped it did? Was it cheaply made or something and the studios are looking for an action movie series?

160 million box office against 70 million production budget. Add in dvd/bluray streaming tv rights it more then made money in a year. 

 

So far it maybe that this film will not make back its production budget.

I just feel like the tone of this was very different from the first movie- I don't remember the fight/kill scenes being nearly as gratuitous or Liam Neeson-like. It seemed to rely more on the tension of the hostage situation.

 

The budget here was 60 million, so it might at least make back its budget, at least by the time you get to do overseas box.

This movie might not sink Butler's star power by itself, but it's part of a one-two punch with Gods of Egypt being released a week earlier and belly flopping so hard there's no water left in the pool. I think he may have just Taylor Kitsched himself out of a career.

I'm still not sure how the plot to assassinate the President failed given that about 99.999% of the British security services were part of the plot for no discenable reason.

In any case, that's why you send the Vice-President to state funerals.

I liked the 1st so I always planned on seeing the 2nd. Just not in theaters because I rarely go.
