Nobody's talking about E03 from last nite? I thought it was bizarre, almost surreal, especially the photo shoot and the clueless model. Even after Kensi and Deakes (posing as people involved in her photo shoot) take her instead to the boathouse to enlist her in testifying against a war criminal, she still assumes they really are involved in the photo shoot and demands that they take her there. So they do so and there's the photo shoot only Hetty is there as director! Really? This was just implausible to the point of parody.

Well, we didn't have an episode 3 thread, so I made one and am bringing this over here.

I thought it was just a filler episode. Nothing too exciting.

Were we supposed to know who that guy was? The one who was so intent on pursuing Catalina?

I'd comment, but I have no idea what was going on, and I really didn't enjoy it enough to watch it twice (although if someone can tell me what the dead lady was reaching for in her bucket if she planned on taking man-mountain Sam down with a mop handle, I'd appreciate it).

Hetty's James Bond pose at the end was kind of adorable.

I thought it was a pretty standard episode. It didn't advance, or even address, any of the ongoing storylines, but the show has always had multiple episodes like that which tend to be lighter. However, I thought there were some really clunky bits:

-Kensi trying to get Catalina to talk about her family and past--while posing as her agent's assistant who Catalina thought might have been "in" on the boathouse plan--seemed really unsubtle and even dumb, given Kensi's precarious situation in that moment. We've had a lot of good scenes in the past of Kensi and Deeks getting people to spill things by appealing to their emotions, and they employed a lot more nuance than this. This scene felt sloppy, and out of character for Kensi.

-Hetty's reasoning to Catalina for why she should allow the undercover team to remain in place confused me--she basically told her that if she didn't, she would miss the shoot. But they MADE UP the shoot. It wasn't the real magazine shoot. Why would Catalina care if she missed it?

-If Callen was nearly out of ammo, why did he shoot, like, six bullets at the guardrail the guy was ducking behind? That seems dangerously inefficient.

I vaguely remembered the British guy from an earlier episode--was that the same one where Kensi and Deeks blew up a building and killed all the bad guys because they knew the kidnapped wife and daughter were being kept in the walk-in freezer? But I didn't remember him well enough to care about him, nor did this episode give me reason to. In every episode so far, they've brought back a recurring person and used them in an unimpressive way, from Sabatino just giving intel to Talia sexually harassing Deeks and generally behaving like a middle schooler.

I did like the face soap interaction, and the toner scene. Those felt more like I was watching the show I knew. Sam being impressed with himself for taking the initiative to change the toner while Callen sarcastically quipped at his expense was what I have come to expect. I also continue to be impressed with Miguel Ferrer--I feel like he makes almost everything Granger does interesting, even if it's just talking to a guest star in the boathouse.

The mop handle had a knife attached to it.
