Anything on the new season of Falling Skies? — Brad

Try not to eat while watching episode 2. When the 2nd Mass gets desperate for food and supplies, someone has the bright idea to cook up a skitter. The results are quite disgusting.

Question: Anything on how Falling Skies‘ 2nd Mass is doing now Tom that is floating around in space? —JJ

Ausiello:

The good news: With the Espheni power core destroyed (thanks, Lexi!), the Skitters and Mechs are (mostly) sitting ducks. The bad news: The assorted ETs have still got some pluck (and maybe a tiny new weapon), and at the start of the final season’s Episode 2 they strike a critical blow against the 2nd Mass, one that will leave them wondering: “Is Skitter meat edible?” (Also: Don’t be so sure that Tom is floating around in space…)

Would it kill them to introduce a unit of troops who don't worship at the altar of Tom Mason are actually legitimately good guys, instead of going for the "Other unit are alien collaborators" plot again?

Probably not since this show is all about how amazing Tom Mason is.

The new TV Guide for August 24-30, 2015 (with Fear the Walking Dead cover) includes a write-up on Falling Skies' series finale (airing August 30th).  Here's excerpts from that article (from the print issue, not available online yet):

-- Per showrunner David Eick, on the series finale, "the rubber hits the road... All the efforts, sacrifices and loss of life have been leading toward this all-out confrontation between the species."
-- Per Eick, the finale features "an epic battle that's very personal and very emotional."
-- Per Noah Wyle, the finale "will be satisfying for audiences to get a sense of closure. It's really great to have had the opportunity to construct our own ending, to write ourselves off the air."

As the confident freedom fighters close in on the Espheni encampment, "they believe they're on the enemy's 5-yard line," says Eick, "but they suddenly realize it's more like the 45. It seems that the Espheni have one last card to play. The fun of the episode is how the good guys have to overcome that daunting reality."
As always, the responsibility for saving the world falls on Tom, despite his trouble saving himself from what Wyle cals his "bloodlust" after the heroic death of his human-alien-hybrid daughter, Lexi... When Tom gets a helpful gift from the Dorniya, an alien race that seems to want the Espheni defeated, "everything will come down to whether this one man can execute a mission to find the queen of the Espheni and take her out," Wyle reveals. But, he warns, "not everybody makes it," so expect more casualties in the 2nd Mass.
"The final battle finds Tom in a mano a mano confrontation with the enemy," says Wyle...

So there is a theory that is floating around reddit, that states that at the last moment Tom will somehow time travel back before the Esp reached Earth and will stop the invasion from happening. It's all just speculation, but some people think that it's the only idea that is going to happened because of the fact that this show is such a mess.

Link to comment

Yeah, I can buy into a time travel theory; one where Tom goes back and stops the Esh from taken over the Skitters, and also the Earth. Then he can be the only one who knows what happened while he runs into everyone else (including Pope) just living their daily lives.

The title for the final episode? Reborn.

Maybe there is something to that theory.  But that would mean that the writers would have to deus ex machina the hell out of the episode.

I found this on SpoilerTV.com's advance preview for the finale:

Additional Teasers:

1. There are multiple casualties throughout the episode in spite of very few big battles.
2. Two characters that many thought were dead are actually not so dead.
3. There is a resolution to the love rectangle that involves Hal, Ben, Maggie, and newcomer Isabella.
4. There is a major sci fi actress guest starring that has not been revealed in promos.
5. The show ends in the same time as the flash forward that I talked about earlier and takes place in front of a big piece of history both for the battle against the Espheni and real American history.

http://www.spoilertv.com/2015/08/falling-skies-reborn-advance-preview.html?

With that news I would say:

1. Multiple redshirt casualties and maybe one or two reoccurring characters (like Weaver, Matt, Isabella, or Anne).

2. Pope is alive and probably another Lexi clone.

3. Maggie or Isabella (I and would say, Isabella) would die.

4. I don't know who the new actress could be and I am hoping someone epic!

5. The big piece of history is probably the Lincoln Memorial and/or the Washington Monument.
