Live-Action Dungeons & Dragons Series Scrapped at Paramount+ Amid Creative Differences
BY MATT WEBB MITOVICH   MAY 30, 2024

A live-action TV adaptation of Hasbro’s Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game has run out of hit points at Paramount+, which had given the project an eight-episode, straight-to-series order back in January 2023.

Sources tell TVLine that creative differences brought the series to a halt at Paramount+, and that after being redeveloped with a new creative team TBD, Hasbro plans to shop the series elsewhere.

‘300’ TV Series in Early Development at Warner Bros. Television (EXCLUSIVE)
By Joe Otterson   May 31, 2024
https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/300-tv-series-early-development-warner-bros-television-zack-snyder-1236017708/

Quote

A “300” TV series adaptation is in early development at Warner Bros. Television, Variety has learned from sources.

Exact plot details are still being worked out, but sources say that the show would serve as a prequel to the 2006 film. No writer or platform is currently attached to the project.

Deals are still being negotiated, but Zack Snyder, who directed and co-wrote “300,” is in talks to direct and executive produce the series. Deborah Snyder, who executive produced “300,” would also return as an executive producer under her and Zack’s Stone Quarry production banner, with Stone Quarry’s Wesley Coller also on board. Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, and Bernie Goldmann — all of whom were producers on the film — are likewise in talks to return.
*  *  *
Should the “300” series move forward, it would be the latest in a long line of films being adapted for television as the push for recognizable IP in the streaming world remains strong. Amazon, for example, recently ordered a “Legally Blonde” prequel series about the high school years of Elle Woods and released the “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” TV series starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine earlier this year. Apple, meanwhile, is prepping a “Time Bandits” series, while other recent examples include series based on movies like “Fatal Attraction,” “Sexy Beast,” and “Dead Ringers.”

LOL -- Netflix getting Berlanti's leftover pilot ideas, now that CW is no more:

'‘Scooby-Doo’ Live-Action Series From Berlanti Productions Lands At Netflix With Major Commitment'

But seriously; I suppose this was bound to happen since the franchise has had so many other iterations. I can already see people losing it when it turns out the cast won't be all white.

I'm surprised it took so long honestly

Power Rangers Series No Longer Moving Forward at Netflix — Hasbro to Redevelop With New Partner
BY MATT WEBB MITOVICH   JUNE 11, 2024

A Power Rangers series that had been in development at Netflix for more than two years has powered down.

Sources confirm for TVLine that the live-action series — which counted Daisy & the Six co-exec producer/veteran Supernatural story editor Jenny Klein as its showrunner, working in collaboration with Power Rangers franchise overlord Jonathan Entwistle — is no longer moving forward at Netflix.

Power Rangers owner Hasbro Entertainment in turn is exploring a new creative direction for the series, TVLine hears, and with a new partner.

Apparently, it would kill CBS to break their formula:

'‘Van Helsing’ Series In The Works At CBS'

Quote

The series is a contemporary take on the monster hunter Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, who uses his uniquely inquisitive mind working alongside his ex, relentless FBI special agent Mina Harker, to solve New York City’s most harrowing cases, per the logline.

This sounds as good (bad) as that 'Nancy Drew' pilot they did a while back. Just plug in a recognizable IP name into a CBS procedural.

Unless there will actually be vampires? -- Doubt it.

10 | A Sherlock-less Watson procedural, a procedural about Albert Einstein’s great-grandkid, and a procedural about a Van Helsing helping the FBI. Hmm, are we sensing a theme in CBS’ post-So Help Me Todd/NCIS: Hawai’i’/CSI: Vegas plans?

Wonder Man TV Series Is ‘Extremely Different’ Than Anything Marvel Has Done Before, Says Kevin Feige
BY MATT WEBB MITOVICH   JUNE 27, 2024
https://tvline.com/news/wonder-man-tv-series-extremely-different-kevin-feige-1235272035/

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige this week offered the first official update in a minute on the Wonder Man TV series, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and reportedly recently wrapped filming.
*  *  *
In addition to Abdul-Mateen II filling the title role (aka Simon Williams), the cast includes Demetrius Grosse, (Fear the Walking Dead) as Simon’s brother Eric, while Ben Kingsley is reportedly reprising his role as Trevor Slattery, the character he played on the big screen in both Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi.

As a guest on the Official Marvel Podcast this week (press play above for audio), Feige was asked what keeps him inspired at a company that released its first comic some 85 years ago. The Marvel Studios boss enthused about “continuing to try new storylines and taking characters to new places.
*  *  *
Offered up as an example of “new,” Feige said, “We have a show coming up that we’ve talked very little about called Wonder Man, that I won’t talk much about today either except to say it’s extremely different than anything we’ve done before.”

When asked about Paradise Lost (DC Universe's Wonder Woman prequel TV series):

jamesgunn   1 day agoNothing is “in production” unless it’s been greenlit. Right now that’s Superman, Supergirl, Penguin, Peacemaker, Lanterns, and a handful of animated projects. But Paradise Lost like many other titles known and unknown is still in very active development - it will be in production once we have a script or scripts we think are great and ready to shoot, never before. As an aside, we aren’t officially cast on anything that isn’t greenlit. 🧜‍♂️

I thought that Cold Case was a good show with good actors. I was surprised that the star Kathryn Morris didn't get cast more often after that show ended...

‘One Tree Hill’ Sequel Series Led By Sophia Bush & Hilarie Burton In Works At Netflix
By Rosy Cordero, Nellie Andreeva   August 30, 2024
https://deadline.com/2024/08/one-tree-hill-sequel-series-sophia-bush-hilarie-burton-netflix-1236073973/

Original stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton are set to executive produce and reprise their roles of Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, respectively, in the sequel series from writer/executive producer Becky Hartman Edwards and Warner Bros. TV, which is currently in development at the streamer, sources reveal to Deadline. Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles also executive produce through their Chaos Machine banner with the latter in talks to return as Rachel Scott. Emily Moss Wilson is a producer.

Created by Mark Schwahn, One Tree Hill premiered in 2003 and ran for 9 seasons on The WB network and its successor the CW. The sequel is said to take place 20 years later following best friends Brooke and Peyton who are now parents to teens and facing challenges not unfamiliar to what they tackled in the original series like love, insecurities and grief, we understand.
*  *  *
The coming-of-age drama also starred Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Lenz, Austin Nichols, Antwon Tanner and Paul Johansson, among others. Deadline hears there have been informal conversations with other members of the ensemble cast. Bush and Burton are the only ones set thus far, with formal approaches to others expected if/when the series is greenlighted. Murray, who played Lucas Scott across 6 seasons and returned as a guest star in Season 9, has no plans to return for the follow-up, we understand.
