Oh how I LOVE "Two Minutes to Midnight".  Somehow I feel unworthy of writing a eulogy for Death's introduction.  Like he would look at me in a snarky way and say "Really?... You think this you're capable of fathoming my utter indifference to this completely irrelevant exercise?" More than likely he wouldn't even bother with an eye roll.  And of course THAT is why this episode is so fantastic.  Julian Richings created an incredible character with one slow-motion walk by and one scene with Dean.  The writing was excellent for Death but it was the Julian/Jensen interplay that made that scene so memorable.  It's high up on my "favorites scenes of all-time list".  And the rest of the episode was also excellent IMO.  There's probably a dozen+ good lines in the episode, but I like this little exchange:

 

DEAN All right, well...Good luck stopping the whole zombie apocalypse.

SAM Yeah. Good luck killing Death.

In short, this episode made me feel like the Apocalypse WAS nigh.  For a little TV show, I thought they did a good job of creating a credible threat.  I was completely jazzed by the end of the episode and on the edge of my seat.  So, farewell to one of my personal favorites in S5.  Here's hoping Death lasts longer in future years...

I agree with SueB's love for "Two Minutes to Midnight" for all of the reasons given. The introduction of Death scene was one of the best I've seen for a character from the music selection to the way the scene was shot to give it an otherworldly feel. I could tell so much about the character from just that short scene even though the character himself said nothing. Death didn't quite fit in with the people around him; he was something otherworldly and above it, and he knew it. He thought nothing of striking down the man on the street for being rude to him with the barest motion like he was swatting away a fly. Just entirely well done, in my opinion.

 

This is going to be tough, because I like most of these episodes left and it's difficult to pick a favorite over other ones I really like as well.

The introduction of Death scene was one of the best I've seen for a character from the music selection to the way the scene was shot to give it an otherworldly feel. I could tell so much about the character from just that short scene even though the character himself said nothing.

I love Death and I loved that scene, but my love for the rest is not higher than my top three.  But it does show how well the writers can write when they really do it right.  I just want more scenes like this  throughout the series and that is my problem with supernatural, they don't nail it down as often as they just miss the mark.  But those wow moments are what keeps me watching, hoping I will find another one soon.  I will agree, that every ep left has moments I love...so now I just have to figure out which one is weaker IMO.  :)

I think I already said what I would want to say in the episode thread...no need to repeat myself.

For the third time, I think, I'm going to kill an episode, but I don't have much to say about it.  Anyone?

Like DittyDotDot, I said much of my praise for this episode in the episode thread, so just a small synopsis here for posterity, perhaps and with a few added extras: I really liked this episode, especially for what the episode meant for Sam. It was finally a point where he had some forward progress concerning fighting his addiction. Sam was forced to face it, and instead of trying to hide from it (like he tried to do in "Free to Be...") or trying to hide it from Dean, he asked for help. Because of Famine's influence, he wasn't able to fight the initial draw, but in the end, even after getting a taste again, Sam was able to say "no," and I thought that was great progress for him. The fun one-off characters like Cupid and the couple in the beginning who just really went for it and made the most of their small roles - and Famine himself ("Delicious!") - were just icing on the cake for me. And poor, delusional Castiel - no Honey, you can't stop any time you want. Somehow I still found that adorable.

There are great moments in all the other episodes but my top 3 are my top 3 and that isn't going to change.

 

You just made me realize that I'm not even positive what my top three are! I do know that I have a bizarrely strong affection for Changing Channels, Sam, Interrupted (I can't even explain why!) and (*ducks*) Two Minutes to Midnight. But I also know that Season 5 is a weird season for me, and sometimes I end up disliking things about it that I'd remembered loving...and vice versa :)

I'm sitting at this table over here and you're welcome to join me! I've been having this feeling so strongly with this re-watch. I don't know what it is about this show, but my likes and dislikes are forever changing. I love The End and still think it's probably the best episode they did in S5, quality-wise, but it really didn't have much of an effect on me this time around. I mean, I enjoyed it, but it didn't feel epic to me this time. But episodes that I usually overlook--like Sam, Interrupted and Hammer Of The Gods--really caught my attention this time around. This show has the strangest effect on me.
