It's a pretty decent MoTW and all, but the way they over-played Ben as Mini Dean kind of turns me off to the episode overall. I personally always liked Lisa and Ben, but for me S3 struggled greatly with tone, IMO. Maybe it's the Technicolor brightness or the tendency they had to get caught up in their wacky that season, but only a few episodes hit that balance of humor and horror that I adored of the first two seasons. So, I'm not sure it's hate for The Kids Are All Right as much as there are just others people prefer. Link to comment

And ever since I found out the director had Cindy "surprise" Jensen with that kiss at the end, I found that last scene even MORE adorable than it already was. I always thought that last kiss -- with her shyness -- was sweet. Knowing the reason behind it makes it even better. BUT... it's in my okay list. I think it falls short of what it wants to be, but mostly that actress that plays Tamara, her voice grates on my nerves like no other. I just can't hardly sit through any scenes with her in--especially when she's screeching. Funnily, I remember her on an episode of Torchwood and she didn't effect me one way or the other. I liked Dean's completely in character unhealthy approach towards his pending doom. Plus it gave us his Brad Pitt "what's in the box???" moment. For me season 3 is easier than season 1 or 2 since I have 4 ultimate favorite episodes, 3 or 4 good ones and the rest are in the meh category. I don't actively dislike or hate any episodes in season 3, but there are more that I wouldn't actively defend than there are in seasons 1 and 2. Though for me there have been a few ugh episodes (especially some lame ones in season 6 and 7), I generally only actively dislike or hate an episode if it pisses me off for some reason. Most of my active dislike/hate has been directed towards a few episodes in season 4, more than a few in season 8, and a select few in season 9. I just will fight a bit longer. :) The Kids Alright isn't my most favorite but it is in the middle and I guess I think it's cute how Ben and Dean do somethings alike. I've always liked Ben and Lisa and that end scene is really cute and it's always fun to find something out. The Magnificent Seven - I always hated how they did the Seven Sins. I don't have a problem with how they introduce Ruby or the knife but a good portion of the story is just meh for me. I will admit that after listening to Kim Manners and now that he is gone, it has gone up a bit but it isn't my fav but I know I'm not in agreement on several so that's why I think this season will be interesting. I do remember liking several that the fans thought were horrible - Red Sky was one I enjoyed but not sure how much I will like it on repeat watching so I might change my mind later on how I vote. My favorite part was the cute frog. I was dissappointed that they didn't kiss it - that could've been a person after all. And Sam seemed to like/sympathize with the creepy-crawlies in the past (he was so nice to the tarantula in "Bugs")... It's a very conflicting season for me. They seemed to really struggle with tone, but there are moments in almost every episode that I wouldn't want to live without...sigh. First, The Magnificent Seven: Suffers from missed opportunity I think. Here are the Seven Deadly Sins and they go out too damn easy. Not that Isaac thought so. But still, great concept that warranted ...more. Unforgettable things .... Well, if he hadn't already, Dean apparently scratched "twins" off his bucket list. Bobby got to make an excellent Animal House shout-out. Ruby had a bad-ass entrance. Next, Sin City: The premise wasn't all that great bug the character of Casey really was a game changer IMO regarding demonology. Intelligent, devoted, and rational. Still a killer but she was kinda alright as demons go. She had a belief system that she backed and was not remotely petty. It was such a refreshing conversation with her and Dean. It was such a refreshing conversation with her and Dean. Interesting. That's what I didn't like about it. I agree that Casey was cool, but I actually didn't like that. It muddied waters that I didn't want muddied. And the tone of the episode in a way tried to make me sympathize with her - which no. It also made Dean sort of look a little hypocritical since he was ready to ask Sam to spare Casey - even though she just killed his hunting buddy which really episode? odd choice there - but when Ruby was found to be a demon Dean was all "but she's a demon, kill her now" even though at that time Ruby was being much more helpful than I-lured-your-buddy-to-my-home-and-killed-him Casey. So I guess demons are only okay if Dean likes them then. (I don't think that was the message the episode wanted me to get.) So while I understand what you liked about Casey, I just couldn't get past that strange message that the episode was trying to give me. This show has enough gray areas. I didn't want demons to be one of them. In the like department for me: Poor Sam gets it wrong and has to back away quietly from the corrupt, but human, people he thought were the demons. That scene was funny. Also the set up scene with the Credence song was great... that town had such a nice undercurrent of sleazy without being too overdone. Well done there. And Sam dragging Dean away from the prostitute. And then Dean indignant with the other prostitute - good for him... false advertising there. And then distracted Sam not even paying attention to her - burn. I don't especially like fandom favorites like Bad Day at Black Rock either (I thought it was forced and it drowned in "wacky" music - some of the Dean and Sam comedy moments save it). I don't especially mind "Sin City" for Casey; Sam has that hilarious scene too. That annoying hunter guy and the casual misogyny are more of a drain. I actually liked a fair amount of "Long Distance Call," especially the girl Sam had to help. Even though I hated the Ben portions of "The Kids Are Alright," I thought it was one of the few genuinely frightening episodes in SPN history. I actually liked "Time Is On My Side" too.
