S02.E06: A Sibling Rivalry Walks Into A Bar

Recommended Posts

After Danny sets Leslie up on a horrible blind date, Justin steps up when she needs a date to a work event. To prove he is a good brother, Danny makes his case to accompany Leslie. Meanwhile, Shelly helps Burski get a cheap suit so he can impress Leslie.

I'm liking the actress who plays Leslie on this show.  She was unremarkable and underused on Rules of Engagement (at least, when I wated that show, which wasn't regularly).  She's a straght character here in a bar full of comedians, and they need that.

Me too! I also like that her character, instead of being all uptight like most late-30s and 40s female characters on TV, is relaxed and cool and youthful. But in a realistic way, not like Sutton Foster's exaggerated, cartoonish Liza on "Younger".

I wish they'd give Candace and Shelly more airtime! They're my other favorites.

Does the show have some kind of agenda to promote Detroit? (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) Seems like Shelly's always wearing some kind of Detroit gear.

I feel like that was commented on in the first season, so yes? I'm not sure if someone connected to the show might have a Detroit connection.

The bar is supposed to be in Ferndale. MI, right next to Detroit.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferndale,_Michigan The Wikipedia article mentions the Undateable connection in the second paragraph.

I don't know if there is any particular reason.  If you are going to place your show in a particular geographic location (maybe they do that to make the characters seem more grounded), it's as good a place as any.  It's good to have a show that isn't in NYC, Chicago, or Los Angeles for a change.

The creator of this show, Adam Sztykiel, is from metro Detroit. I only started watching this show because I used to work for Adam's dad. While I can do without Chris D'Elia, I find everyone else pretty much hysterical and I find myself LOL'ing at this show more than most other comedies I watch.

I wasn't asking why they set it in Detroit (which I agree is a pretty cool idea) but whether they're trying to promote Detroit above and beyond that - or more specifically, to promote Shelly's Detroit-wear. It all looks like it might be part of a single clothing line. I wonder if a local designer is getting some love through the show.

Funches himself is a south side Chicago native....

In a way, yes, but I think it's mostly that they wanted that detail for Shelley, and a bunch of Detroit apparel companies jumped on it such as Pure Detroit and are giving the show/costume people lots of free gear, and I assume Made in Detroit, Detroit Manufacturing, and Detroit Hustles Harder are too. I pretty much am Shelly I have about 20 shirts that mention the city in one way or the other, and wear them especially when I travel, because I love my town. Of course this show actually takes place in Fabulous Ferndale, so....
