Primetimer March 23, 2015 Share March 23, 2015 Yes, there are some characters even more dickish than Donk. Read the story 1 Link to comment
ZoloftBlob March 23, 2015 Share March 23, 2015 I would have put Pamuk higher on the list.... And Sarah Bunting really deserved the title. 1 Link to comment
TheGreenKnight March 23, 2015 Share March 23, 2015 I had actually made a list by dickishness, but I suppose it'd be easier to say Green, Bryant (the father of Ethel's child), and Merton's sons are the worst male characters and O'Brien, Vera, and Edna are the worst of the female characters, imo. And, even though to some it might be romantic, the number of men on this show who have walked into another person's bedroom for sex is disturbing. Thomas, Pamuk, Bricker--and I'll just throw Jimmy in that group, too, for the way he acted with Ivy at the end of their date... Edna's the only female character who comes close to doing something similar, I think? 1 Link to comment
DHDancer March 23, 2015 Share March 23, 2015 There are a number on this list I would have to disagree with as being classified as dicks. To me, Robert, Bates, Carson are just behaving as men of their era. Tom doesn't deserve the title at all. Bryant (Sr and Jr) should have been in the top 3, with Barrow being #1, And where was Blake? Green wasn't a Dick: he was an outright villain! As was Carlisle with his blackmail.... Still, a fun list to read. And yeah, we need the female counterpart now. 3 Link to comment
Latverian Diplomat March 23, 2015 Share March 23, 2015 (edited) I think Gregson is at least placed too high on the list. The divorce of his wife is not intended to deprive her of support, she's a hopeless case well cared for (by the horrible psychiatric treatment standards of the '20s) and he's entitled to remarry, I think, as the law now allows. Yes. sleeping with employees is bad, but he gave Edith her column before pursuing her, and then he left his estate to her. His most dickish move was not wearing a condom during their one night of passion. Tangling with Nazis was foolish but admirable. Edited March 24, 2015 by Latverian Diplomat 1 Link to comment
helenamonster March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 I am of the belief that one does not need to have a dick to be a dick, so I def would have removed some of the guys from the list and replaced them with ladies (O'Brien, Vera, Edna, MARY, Edith as of the end of last season imo). Also, what about Sir Phillip Tapsell? I'll never forgive Donk for the unwitting role he played in Sybil's death, but Sir Phillip was the originator of the "maybe she has fat ankles; of course she's delirious, she's having a baby" train of logic. I do agree with the top spot though. Rot in hell, you piece of shit. Link to comment
Sarah D. Bunting March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 "Sarah Bunting really deserved the title." Amen. 1 Link to comment
Constantinople March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 Harold Levinson should be applauded for taking Ivy off of our hands and thereby putting a stake in that tiresome downstairs love triangle (rectangle?) Dr Clarkson may genial and friendly, most of the time, but he's had his moments. Season 1: Was willing to let Farmer Drake drop dead until Isobel nagged this barber surgeon into trying a relatively cheap and not exactly cutting edge medical treatment. Season 2: Never told Matthew that a specialist thought Matthew wasn't permanently crippled but only had some kind of nerve bruise (or whatever ridiculous diagnosis JF used or made up). Season 3: I never totally understood Clarkson's backsliding on his disagreement with Tapsell. Either Clarkson disagreed with Tapsell or he didn't. If he didn't, he got everyone wound up for nothing. In any case his wishywashiness on the whole issue doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Season 5: While I can understand Clarkson's skepticism that a nobleman might have a functioning brain, he was a bit rude to Lord Grey. Link to comment
alias1 March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 If Sarah Bunting can be on the list, Mary should definitely be on the list. Link to comment
amensisterfriend March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 It might be quicker to just mention the DA characters who DON'T belong on this list :) 3 Link to comment
SusanSunflower March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 (edited) Yes, imho, the paucity of "likable" characters in the current cast is a genuine problem. I was more struck by how robust Strallen, Carlyle and Gregson look in contrast to the current cast ... and how much Tom Branson now looks like Robert's mini-me. Matthew Goode is very attractive, but as-seen-so-far is not bringing a lot of hot-new-blood that Blake suggested early on might be part of his package (heh!). You know, now that you say it, now I can't unsee how Tom resembles Robert hee hee. I'm willing to withhold judgement on Matthew Goode - I liked what I saw but that was all of what, five minutes? 1 Link to comment
SusanSunflower March 24, 2015 Share March 24, 2015 (edited) Did you see "Death Comes to Pemberley? oh my ... Goode made quite a "robust" Wickham ... sort of blew Darcy out of the water ... imho. (fwiw, Gilligham's flaws were not due to the actor ... he was drawn that way). Edited March 24, 2015 by SusanSunflower Link to comment
Andorra March 25, 2015 Share March 25, 2015 IMO Blake, Gillingham and most of all Larry Grey are missing and I think Tom doesn't belong on the list. He's not perfect, but he's not a dick. Link to comment

Andorra March 25, 2015 Share March 25, 2015 huh? LOL, how did I miss them?!!! But you're right! Ok, then only Blake is missing. Change Blake with Tom and I would be satisfied. Link to comment
skyways March 25, 2015 Share March 25, 2015 Blake doesn't belong on the list but Tom does - His Seasons 1, 2 and part 3 self. 1 Link to comment
ZoloftBlob March 26, 2015 Share March 26, 2015 I don't know, Tom never seemed to be a dick to me - I hated how he was written in season two but he was more childish than dickish. That said, why would Blake make the list at all? He seems like everyone's gay besty! 1 Link to comment
JudyObscure March 26, 2015 Share March 26, 2015 Halfway through, I lost focus on the dickishness and started getting swoony over the handsomeness; Barrows, Sir Richard Carlisle, Tony Gillingham, Lord Sinderby, Sir Anthony Strallen. Great still pictures. 1 Link to comment
