So my sweet little brother heard the wrong words for this awesome song by an awesome band.  I heard him singing, "Rock the cat box."  Yeah, no. 😜

And now, a song none of you will have heard of. Well, maybe @Rushmoras will have heard of it.

I can never figure out why he sings "Madame Joy."  Dude, you NAMED the song!

And from the same exceptional album:

I always get choked up when he sings, "With your arms behind you" and "Puttin' on his little red shoes" cause I remember my own little boy...  Blimey!

From Hell I Rise is the solo album from Slayer guitarist and songwriter Kerry King. And it sounds just like Slayer but with a different vocalist. Several tracks sound a lot like specific Slayer tracks. Normally when musicians go solo or do a side project, it has a different style. I wonder if he wrote this to be the next Slayer album, only for the others to temporarily retire. Either way, if you like this kind of thing, which I do, you'll like this one. Good stuff.

Never heard of them, though, if somebody asked I swear it was Mick Jagger singing (at least Madam George song).

So, after hearing some time ago on the radio the song In the Name of Love, started Cora's discography. For some reason, I always thought that she is 80s artist, but as it turns out she's actually 2000s, a German singer, and her style is chanson (the only other German chanson band I've listened to many years back was Rosenstolz). Well, colour me surprised. So, first album "Cora pur" (2004). Decent, above average. Also, I see that "In the Name of Love" was resung by her, because the original is in German, and its called Liebe pur.

EDIT: Well, after wikying it (the only article is in German), the band is 80s haha. So, I don't know what gives with Spotify and them showing albums from 2004.

So I've been listening to the radio station of my teenage years after a gap of decades. That being JJJ, the more youth-focussed arm of ABC Australia radio. Anyway, it's been an odd experience. I stopped listening in the first place because I wasn't enjoying it any more. Now I've ventured back, I'm still not convinced.

Tonight I was listening to the metal show. Most of it was new, though I'd heard of some bands. Good to catch up on the new stuff. Then the host ran a promo, saying he was holding it down for the underground. The very next track? Linkin Park - One Step Closer.

Third Cora album, which I guess is compilation with their best songs with some new ones thrown in, so I guess, for those that originally pre-internet streaming services days missed the first two albums, this was the one to get. And, personally, I like it the best out of the three albums I've listened to. "Jubiläumsalbum: Traum von Amsterdam" (2008).

Fifth Cora album "Winterrosen" (2011). At first I thought it was a Christmas album with my basic knowledge of German, but maybe after track three the album became regular one. Also, how many times the band is going to include their fucking Amsterdam song in their albums? Jesus fucking Christ. It's like with Evanescence and their different tracks of Imaginary in almost every album on Spotify 🤣

Sixth and last, I guess, Cora album on Spotify (Spotify algorithm had two other albums, but I really doubt its from the same group - the first one sounds metal and a dude is singing, and the last one is all dance/trance/techno/house without any words, so...) "Wunderbar!" (2015). Pretty good as well.

As always, subjective assessments of each album:

1. Cora pur (2004) - 6.9/10 [Best songs: Liebe pur; Christina; Die Erste Liebe; Istanbul]

2. Komm wir fahren nach Amsterdam (2004) - 7.9/10 [Best songs: Hunderttausend Rosen; Komm doch mit nach Dresden; Du bist anders als die anderen; In the name of love; Love may never be a lesson; In der dunklen Nacht]

3. Jubiläumsalbum: Traum von Amsterdam (2008) - 8.2/10 [Best songs: Warum ist lieben so schwer; Baby blue eyes (engl); Das haut mich nicht um; Der Grosse Traum Von Fliegen; Christina; Halb; Allen Seit Dieser Nacht; Liebe pur]

4. Regenbogengold (2009) - 6.7/10 [Best songs: Die Liebe Schweigt; Regenbogengold; Wunderland; Traumpartner]

5. Winterrosen (2011) - 7.7/10 [Best songs: Die Tochter; Melody D’amour; Magical Moments; La Mama; Das haut mich nicht um]

6. Wunderbar! (2015) - 8.3/10 [Best songs: Wunderbar; Sehnsucht; Christina 2015; Fühl dich bei mir geborgen; Gib mir den Moment]

Average album score: 7.6/10

Next stop - something heavier...

After trying JJJ after many years away and finding myself unimpressed, I decided to listen to local radio instead. Specifically, their metal show. And did I pick a winner! It was having a doom metal special, slower paced and not too much chainsaw guitars. Sure it's on the gloomy side, but still a good time.

Funnily enough, the very first track sounded a lot like old Candlemass. Crazy thing, modern Candlemass doesn't sound like old Candlemass!

Started White Skull discography. The only song of theirs that I knew from years ago was Asgard (from Tales of the North album), and I figured that that's how all of their songs sound, but the first album is not heavy... I mean, it's metal, but... very much influenced by blues I'm wagering. It's quite odd, because I expected one thing, but got, I don't know, Dire Straits goes metal haha, or something. However, their first album "Embitterred" (1996) was... I don't say this often about first albums of bands... because it's quite rare that I don't find any qualms with them... but yeah... I did not find anything to complain about... this was truly for my tastes a ten out of ten album.

Reminds me of the first Avantasia album, some Iron Maiden, and a couple of other things I can't place. Good stuff!
