S01.E07: The Crossroads

Recommended Posts

The weakest episode to date with muddled plots.

Women are liabilities. 🙄

Maeve has overplayed her hand and is hiding behind her crocodile tears. I cannot wait to see Conrad feeding her with her own eyeballs.

Jan’s BS radar is malfunctioning. Normal people would be suspicious of Alice, her motives and all her Qs about Harry. But not Jan. She’s just trying to be a good friend. Kudos to Paul for seeing right through Alice. Will Maeve try to paint Jan as a rat?

One minute, Gina couldn't stand the Harrigans. Next, she is caught snogging Conrad’s loser grandson.

Bella is back on her shady business, going against Harry’s advice.

Seraphina has balls, but she’ll be struggling with PTSD moving forward.

Kat McAllister is someone who Harry doesn’t want to be indebted to. Is she a high-ranking government official or an underworld queenpin?

I get the feeling they’ll find out that Alice is a cop, and then they’ll paint Jan as a rat.

…and she was completely aware what Eddie was trying to do so I thought that she was rejecting his advances, but I guess she didn’t care.

Just acting like a teenager I guess, at least she wasn't tricked or anything. I hope they're not related, that would be too soap opera. It's more plausible that Eddie is Conrad's son than Harry's.

40 minute episodes? that's way too short for streaming services, it's the standard for regular tv but Idk why Paramount+ is cutting episodes short. They're using too many cliffhangers.

That was brutal, Brendan was a weaker version of Fredo Corleone but that's a terrible way to go. Why was Harry all alone in Belgium? Conrad could've send some backup. And why didn't Harry make that call a little earlier?

Harry picking up guns and grenades from the dead bodies was cool, like a video game trope, and dropping multiple bodies in Belgium should end any suspicions that he's the rat. That was badass!

I wish Richie thanked Maeve for the tip during the zoom call, she deserves to get exposed. That's two episodes in a row with criminal activities being discussed on phone calls, last week the Harrigan's openly talked about murders and this week the chainsaw thing happened, I get that the show leans more into entertainment than realism but c'mon!

Pierce Brosnan continues to overact but I love him! And Paul is the man! he steals every scene he's in!

I thought the same thing at first. However, he didn't know he was out of time until then. He thought he had options until then, and calling Kat McAllister became the only option at the last minute. I'm sure he didn't want to be indebted to Kat McAllister so Harry didn't want to make that call if he didn't have to.

I KNOW! Come on Richie!

Would Conrad have believed him? 🤔

No one thought they were going to get captured as no one outside of the family knew they were in Antwerp. Harry was supposed to bring them home quietly because no one knew they were not in the Cotswolds. No one expected Maeve to tell the Stevensons where Brendan and Seraphina were.

Seeing Paul makes me think of Wrexham...

He was likely saving that for the end... but Kat happened....

that was one hell of a character introduction! Idk if she's CIA/cartel/baller or a cartel lawyer like she was in Ozark but I'm invested!

I think Conrad is already suspicious, Maeve handled the text thing so poorly, like why even say anything?  But I guess that's going to revealed in the season finale, maybe as another cliffhanger, they love cliffhangers

I'm also thinking that somehow they'll get from Eddie that Maeve is the one that told Richie they were in Antwerp. Besides Richie of course, the only other person that knows about the call is Eddie. I'm thinking he'll let it slip that Maeve talked to Richie.

Eddie's response when Paul said Seraphina and Brendan were kidnapped was "is that good or bad?" but obviously, to everyone else, of course that's bad. However, to Eddie, it was a part of the plan because he saw Maeve put that into motion.

Well, Maeve! You fucked that one up.

I wonder when Conrad will realize Meave said Ritchie said he had them, when in fact the cartel has them (I suppose you can quibble that Ritchie ordering the cartel could mean he has them, but Maeve said Ritchie has them as if he physically has them, not ordered someone else to round them up... besides, why would Ritchie tell Meave he has them, and then wait for however long to then start the video where someone else kills them?)? Conrad should already have noticed, but he hasn't said anything. I continue to think he is losing it mentally and while he shows glimpses of his old self, he also seems stuck in patterns that keep him from thinking more clearly.

There was one moment there where Jan seemed suspicious. I think it was when Alice asked her if Harry was there as well. I thought we were going to see Jan figuring it out, and then realizing the danger she was in i.e. Harrigans on alert and Jan is slipping away to talk to someone who asks questions, so how does Jan look to the Harrigans?. Instead, she got dumber, while Alice simultaneously became more obvious.

Harry is quite the one-man army.

MAAAAN! I really wish Conrad had made Maeve show him the nonexistent text! Brendan’s death is ALL ON HER. No sympathy for this git of a bint.

Again, how STOOPID is Jan?!

I was really hoping Paul would have told her Alice is a cop. Though it was ambiguous whether he was threatening her or letting Fiske know he was onto him.

And who is this new player, Kat?

So Kevin is working on hunting down Rusby, it seems.

So two episodes left. Who will be left standing?

Since Hardy stated he hopes there will be a second season, I assume Harry is safe, along with Brosnan, I hope. Maeve, I want Maeve GONE. She’s gotten away with too much shit and is the reason why her family is now a target of Richie AND Jaime/the cartel.

I thought it was just a threat to keep her nose where it belongs.

Do you think he knows that Alice is a cop/cop plant? Or is he just questioning that Jan is spilling her guts to someone she barely knows?

As for Jan's stupidity, I'd say this: If I'm in Jan's position knowing that gangsters are coming after me and mine and I escaped harm once because of Harry who's no longer there, I'm not leaving the security of the Harrigan compound for anything less than a zombie apocalypse/alien invasion having breached said compound.

I'm certainly not sneaking out and going into town without armed guards.

Even taking Alice at face value as a nice lady that she just happened to have recently met, there's a chance that the Stevensons are lurking around the Cotswolds trying to snatch people in Conrad's inner circle or those close to them.

I know it's easy to say from our perspective, because we know more than Jan does. But it seems like it should be a red flag that Alice was willing to drive from London to the Cotswolds (which the Interwebs tells me is an hour and 40 minutes drive) to hang out with someone she has known for all of a couple weeks in person.

Agreed.

Also, it's weird that Alice, this person Jan has only known a few weeks, would drive a couple of hours to the Cotswolds just to tell Jan something she could have said over the phone. The story that Alice told Jan wasn't worth the drive.
