Season 2 Speculation

I said elsewhere that I'd like to see the next season be a plot-week long, each ep being alternating day-night shifts, with Abbott being the Robby of the night shift.

A little space from this traumatizing shift would be good although not too much. I don't want Langdon coming back as if nothing happened, having been to rehab in the meantime.

What's the alternative for that storyline though? If he's not post-rehab then he can't be in the show. I love the one-day format but this is where it bumps up against long term development. Same with Robby presumably seeking some help for his PTSD.

FWIW, they have told us that season 2 will take place

Spoiler

on Langdon's first day back after rehab.

Even if Langdon is back at work there will be things he is and isn't allowed to do with regard to prescribing drugs. Other people will have trust issues with him. Even if he's clean, there's still plenty of story possibility.

One thing to remember is, due to HIPPAA, there will not be any discussion of what his problem is, where he's been or what happens next amongst the staff unless he permits it.  Not that everyone won't have a pretty good idea though.  Only the person, probably Robby, assigned to monitor his progress in his program will have access to his records and testing, etc.

Langdon will probably be restricted from prescribing any controlled substances, including Schedules 2-4.  Someone else will have to co-sign his orders or write any prescriptions for those medications for at least 6 months or so, depending on the program that is prescribed for him.

ETA: Schedule 1 drugs are those with high potential for addiction or harm but no specific medical use like LSD or heroin.  Nobody can prescribe those without a special license only given to those doing research with those medications.

Even if people aren't supposed to know why Langdon has been gone, I can imagine a lot of people would have heard it through the grapevine, or at least could guess what happened. I would like to see some interaction between him and McKay, who has been sober for almost a decade after dealing with addiction.

I hope that we can begin the season with Santos and Whitaker having some roommate banter about dishes or something.

Spoiler

On 4th of July weekend, we could get:

Firework related injuries

Drugs/alcohol problems raising due to parties

Barbeque injuries

A parade crash

Heat related sickness. Halfway through the season the hospitals AC starts going out and heat exhaustion or heat stroke becomes a concern for both patients and staff.

Why was that in a spoiler? Do you have access to some insider info?

Not to worry, Santos will have told everyone. 😉

I can't say I give a crap about anything having to do with Santos.  She needs a whole lot more redemption for me to care anything about her.  Whitaker, yes, he's appealing and I care about him, but Santos can go jump in one of Pittsburgh's three rivers.

Weird, the quote that was attributed to me (about roommate banter about dishes) in @Linderhill’s post was actually posted by @tennisgurl

I should know this but I don't: What is the date of the current season? Based on when the second starts is set, that might have an impact on how far along Langdon is in his program as well as what he can and can't do

I know people have also mentioned that Pittsburgh has a giant furry convention on that weekend, so I hope they work that in for a patient (heatstroke? Victim of a fire with a melted suit?).

If there's a furry convention in Pittsburgh that weekend, I say make it a running gag. If there was ever something to generate multiple humorous/silly subplots, this is it. The possibilities seem endless.

Well, we've been told the next season takes place 10 months later on the 4th of July, so the first season would've been early September.

According to one website (which correlates to posts I've seen here):

So, S1 was mid-September (ish).

One of the things they have told us about next season is that it will likely take place on

Spoiler

Langdon's first day back after rehab. So he's probably going to be limited in what he's allowed to do, certainly in terms of dispensing.

Yeah, I am not a fan of the format, either. I don't need to alternate with night shift (though a spin off would be the cherry on top) but again, there cannot be a lot of credible character development in one day, only character relevations. We will have Langdon back, Robby being grumpy with him for 15 episodes and that's it.
It's just tedious as a viewer to have so little charcter development. For them it may be a day but for us it is 4 months.
