DanaK March 11 Share March 11 Elm’s mom is definitely a horrible person. “Look what you made me do” after she slapped Em. And she was definitely high or drunk. Glad Em kicked her to the curb 4 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152324-s01e17-sea-change/#findComment-8603880
Crashcourse March 11 Share March 11 Too bad that the new guy seems to be shady (was that drugs that the guy gave him?), because I thought he and Will would have been good friends. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152324-s01e17-sea-change/#findComment-8604178

Expand I think Will noticed them all coming out from behind that shed first, and then he saw the exchange. Definitely drugs. Good for Will for leaving. I did not, however, realize he drives a minivan... I thought it was something cooler, like a go camping at the beach while you surf kind of van. 😆 As for the rest of the episode, do we blame the writers or the editors for the choppiness? I don't need to see every little thing the characters do, but how did Will just show up at Em's? Which one texted the other first? And why are they drinking after work, going to bbq/parties, and having long talks before saying good night - while the sun is still up and makes it look like noon? This isn't Alaska... Why does Laka want to live with the younger kids in a yurt? Doesn't he have a home now? And if they're all so poor, how does Em have that nice house? I felt bad for the kid, but at least Will taught him to surf and Em came around and apologized. She's better off without her mom for sure. But that brings me to my last point... Will and Em dated/lived together for at least 3 YEARS and they never mentioned their moms to each other before? Did they even talk at all? 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152324-s01e17-sea-change/#findComment-8604189

blackwing March 12 Share March 12 I really hope Em’s mom is gone for good. It’s been a long time since I’ve grown to hate a minor character on a TV show so quickly and with such intensity. She is a truly awful person. And I hate this actress’ whiny little girl voice. I couldn’t care less about Sonny and his issues with his daughter. Does this topic have to come up in every single episode? Can the guy ever just be content? He spent most of the season sadsacking about Zion, and as soon as he finally got over it, he focuses all his energy on controlling his daughter. I do agree with him that 17 is too young to be moving out of the house and living with an older boyfriend, but the way he goes about trying to get his way is all wrong. Expand I don’t think Laka wants to live on Kainalu’s farm. He lives with his tutu and helps take care of her (although when we met her, she was not the frail old woman he made her out to be). I think he views himself as the trainer to the younger lifeguards, so he was competing alongside them in solidarity and to test himself. Kind of like when Em did the underwater rock carry with the new recruits. As for Will and Em, I think Em talked about her mom with him before. When they had that picnic lunch, he seemed to be somewhat familiar with the issue. However, Will seems like a very closed off guy, he said he didn’t like to talk about bad memories, which is why he probably never shared about his mom before. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152324-s01e17-sea-change/#findComment-8604611

I do not care how closed off one is, I still think there would be mentions of family or one of them asking questions about their respected families. I would assume in three years of dating/living together Em might ask will about his mother. I guess not. When Em and Will almost kissed I was like no, not this again. Make it stop! I was so glad it did. I did not want to get on that hamster wheel again. After the mourning Zion story it's like lather, rinse, repeat with Sonny's storylines. His daughter will act out, something happens, then they are back on good terms again. It's tired. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152324-s01e17-sea-change/#findComment-8604733
