S02.E02: The Rapist Is Winter

Recommended Posts

This episode feels like a filler.

Nothing much is going on in Teonna’s storyline. At least, we see Debra Morgan as Marshal Fossett.

So, Whitfield has ski resort in mind in 1923.

Is Spencer having some kind of awakening or something? Only in Galveston he feels the urgency to get to Montana. 🙄

The Duttons have been living at that house for decades and they never take any safety measures to detect and prevent wild-animal intrusion??!

Wait a minute, Elsa’s voice over at the end mentioning “the people of Palestine and Israel” — Israel didn’t exist in 1923.

So when Elizabeth goes out to get eggs, or whatever she was doing since there were eggs in the meat locker, I knew an animal would be in there. I'm yelling out another mountain lion!!  Bear!!!  When I saw the wolf I burst out laughing.

Is this show 1923, or 24?  Interesting back then you had to get rabies shots in the stomach. I had to have them a few years ago and they put them in the bite marks on my hand. Then I went back for 3 weeks to get another shot in the arm.  The hand shots were awful.  But how f ing stupid is she to think it would be better to die of rabies?  Please, go home. I feel kinda bad for the actress, her characters are disliked on not one, but two shows.

So the Italian cousin is the Galveston mob?  And now Spencer has to make a side trip to Ft Worth?  Why not just take off with the little guy and head to Montana.

The writing on this show is getting extremely lazy.

Yeah I'm sure all Palestine and Israel have to worry about is cold weather. Esp since Israel doesn't exist in 1923. Did he throw that in for his Jewish viewers? It was called various names until the State of Israel was established 25 years later.

This is like on West Wing when Bartlett got a really old map that didn't show Israel, because it was drawn in the 1800s, and Leo told him he couldn't hang it up. CTFD.

If you're going to make up dumb quotes, at least make up accurate ones. Hell is watching these shows. BOOM

How did the wolf get in the house? Do these people not know how to close a door?  "Just tell me where the blonde is, and I'll be on my way".

I don't like the blizzard stuff, and I don't know what the woman and kids and their ranch hand have to add to the plot . We know how terribly Native Americans were treated. We know what the 14th Amendment is.

And why couldn't they have just finished off that priest and marshall?

I'm about done with 1923. Sheridan's shows are getting tiresome.

Pretty sure Elsa was referring to the people of Israel and Palestine who described Hell in Biblical times when they were writing the Bible. There is a lot of misinformation to unpack in that concept, but it is possibly—even likely— a believable thing for Elsa to say.

The wolf getting in the house seems questionable, but the likelier bear seems a bit much, too. And hibernating.  I assume it is such a hard winter that everyone is starving. it is melodramatic, but this story is high on the melodrama.

I watched this episode in about 15 minutes, fast forwarding through almost everything except Helen Mirren's scenes, the scene with Spencer and Gilles Marini* at the end because I wanted to see if he was at least headed north, and the scene on the boat with Alexandra.  If something happened that I need to know later in the season, I guess I'm SOL.   Or I might rewatch while reading a book.  I felt bad about abandoning my longtime Pretend Boyfriend, Harrison Ford.

*If Giles Marini (my short term Pretend Boyfriend) is on the screen and I hit FF you know that I am so damn tired of watching Spencer Not Getting to Montana.   Honestly, it took Gus and McCall less time to drive their cattle herd from Texas to Montana.   I made a "joke" last season that it would end with Spencer getting to the ranch and saying "Aunt Cara, I'm home."  That may happen this season, except I really think they need to try and get Spencer and Alexandra together in the same place at some point.   They are the show's Young Hot Couple and it seems dumb to keep them apart for an entire season.

And yes, I heard what I said.  :-)

The Spencer storyline has just become so tedious. We get it Taylor Sheridan, you’re just in love with “The Adventures of Spencer” but the rest of us want the story to move along and putting Spencer in more and more ridiculous scenarios is dragging the whole show down, and I’m just guessing were about to get the same tedium with his wife. Ugh.

I thought maybe the nurse could've heard something outside and opened the door to check (which would've been stupid), but her body was by the sofa where she was sleeping, so I guess we're to assume that the wolf either broke through a window or clawed through the door.  I find it a bit farfetched myself.  Poor nurse though!

Elizabeth is going to have to toughen up if she's going to survive life in Montana!

The wolf is at the door. I suppose she could have let it in.  Or something. You are right. It did happen.

It would seem unlikely unless they are rabid or the winter has been so hard they are starving. And the Duttons have lived through hard winters before and it is a sturdy expensive house that theoretically would be built to survive Montana winters.

You would think it would be sturdier. Even have boards to go over the windows to keep out the wind at night.

About 80% of this series has felt like filler.

In fact, in full disclosure, I haven't even resubscribed to Paramount Plus yet to watch this season. After last year's season amounted to one big set up with no pay off, I decided to take the approach that I'll watch after Spencer gets home and there's finally the show down that was promised, err teased, at the very beginning of the series.

I thought I'd pop in and see how things were coming along. Looks like the show is still teasing.

I’m much more interested in the mature people at the ranch (Elizabeth is not one), the town,  and Teonna than Spencer and Alex( no better than Elizabeth).

Whitfield is evil enough without his harem, which is just Sheridan being his normal disrespectful on women.  The priest can go bye-bye any time.

After this show's finale I'm done with Sheridan. I'm only watching to see if Spencer and Alex have any moments of happiness before one of them likely dies tragically in front of the other.

I have Peacock and won't bother to watch the last season of "Yellowstone".
