The drunk one driving just kept saying that they were racing? I don't know either, I wasn't paying much attention anymore by then.

I didn't get this either. If they were racing each other then both were driving their own cars, and I guess one of them was thrown from their car and wound up under the wheel of the other one's car.

I agree it's getting tiresome seeing the show having to come up with reasons why various cast members are missing each week.

If they can't afford everyone anymore, let them retire.  Even Meredith Grey is no longer a regular on Grey's Anatomy... it can be done, but best if they all will agree to come back every once in a while as guest stars.

I get that Severide's whole thing is that he's always hated paperwork, but the show also portrays him as a highly capable and competent firefighter, the youngest to ever make Squad, and one of the youngest Lieutenants.  The fact that he wasn't made Captain like Casey was, and in line for Chief behind Boden, is pretty laughable.  Didn't Boden have Connie and Kylie do a lot of his paperwork anyway?  It could have been done, and then saved the show the salaries of Pascal and his wife.

No Severide, Pascale, now Carver away. This is like budget cut episodes.

Boring.

Yeah, all of the One Chicago shows are doing this now. I forget how many episodes maximum that each cast member can be in during a 22-episode season. 18 maybe? May be higher for some, fewer for others. And yeah, this was a dull episode (Med was even worse tonight).

One way to maybe save a bit of production money is to eliminate one apparatus from the house. Engine would be the obvious cut if Hermann makes Battalion Chief since he's the ranking officer on E51, and rest of the crew rarely shown. I guess on the few fires they portray, a nearby engine could be dispatched for fire suppression duties. Undoubtedly that could also be a good storyline, closing E51 results in longer response times and other Bad Things that really do happen IRL when a company is closed.

I've never warmed up to Carver; there's just something about him I don't like. Hard to say if it's the actor's portrayal or that he's just not being given anything meaty to tackle storywise. Either way he's forgettable and drags the story down.
