S05.E08: Guns and Roses

After a young girl is the victim of a shootout in her neighborhood, the team races to find out if a gang war is afoot and whether the crime is connected to a shipment of stolen guns McCall is chasing down. Meanwhile, love is in the air when Aunt Vi and Delilah prepare for their respective date.

Maybe I missed it but was it established that Aunt Vi is bisexual ? She was dating a woman a few seasons ago.

I can't remember the details, but she had talked about dating men before her relationship with (?) Trish. 

I knew the poor little girl was doomed when her grandma declared confidently that she would pull through.  This resolution was more depressing than the show usually is.  Maybe they're suddenly experimenting with being realistic?  (Not really.)  I wondered why they had the part with Salazar killing the one rich guy at the very end instead of doing it earlier and then having all the lighter stuff with the characters.  I just found that interesting, because they usually only do that when they're having a big cliffhanger for end of season or winter finale.

I liked Vi's story, but Delilah was very dumb in hers.  I know she likes Cam, but I thought she would have at least tried to push back a little on taking the car.  I was distracted because the actor who plays Cam is on All American now, so I kept thinking of him as that character even though he has been on this show more times.

I did kind of know that Robyn and Dante would get back together at some point because last summer, I was looking up Tory Kittles to see about his status on the show and some site posted recent pictures of him chatting with Latifah before a scene, followed by pictures of a kissing scene.  It could have been a dream or some kind of a fake-out though, so I didn't know for sure.  There didn't seem to be any real impetus for them to reunite at this point; it kind of felt like the writers just ran out of obstacles and decided to throw up their hands and put them together.  I'm fine with that though.

It's funny how the captain suddenly decided to come around on Dante, though I liked her WTF reaction to Robyn being in the precinct and thought it was funny when she kept saying "Secret Agent Dante."

It was a little weird that Robyn grounded Delilah without finding more details about what happened. She didn't any ask details about the accident, if anybody was hurt, where the car is now, or how much damage was done. Robyn seemed to care more about the car than Delilah or her boyfriend.

We found out Viola was bi when Dee was setting up a dating profile for her back in season one. I liked Vi and her date having an honest conversation about what they're looking for in a relationship. That was refreshing.

Dee and Cam are a cute little couple. I agree with the poster above. Robyn's reaction seemed off.

I have to laugh at how the task force Dante is part of is simply called FTF. The Federal Task Force. They didn't even bother trying to come up with a name.

I don't remember exactly when they started this Salazar arc, but I guess he's the big bad for the rest of the season. I know they'll write it so that everything happens in NYC, but he's not actually a local criminal, right?

I guess we can blame it on teens being teens, but I thought Dee was a little bit smarter/more responsible? At least she should have pushed back more when Cam wanted to actually drive the car.

And yeah, the resolution with Robyn seemed ... shortened? Maybe this is something that they're going to continue next episode?

I did like Vi's C-plot; I wish we could have seen her painting as well, though!

So Robyn and Dante are officially back 'on'; I should be happier, but I still don't trust these writers with that relationship.

I can't believe Dee let Cam drive her mother's car. I thought she knew better then that. Her mother loved that car.

I was surprised the show let the little girl die. I forgot all about Salazar. I'm not sure why he killed the guy at the end.

I liked Vi's date and being honest about herself and relationships. I do think she was worrying a little too much. I liked him suggesting they just see where it goes. That's exactly what she should do. They only just started dating. It's way too soon to worry about where it's going. 

Dante and Robyn are together again. I'm sorry but I just don't care.

She's a teenage girl in the bloom of first love. Good judgment is a crapshoot from here on out. Confession: I flashed back to some of my own teenage stupidity involving my parents' car so this storyline hit hard. 😃

I don't remember who Salazar is but I guess he is going to be the bad guy for the rest of the season.  I am dreading for when Fisk returns from the dead, I truly cannot stand Fisk and Donal Logue.  To the point when Donal Logue showed up on another show (Murdoch Mysteries), I took an instant dislike to that character.

I agree.  I didn't know how much Robyn views that car as one of the last tangible connections she has with her deceased father until this episode.  But Delilah was dumb for allowing Cam to drive the car.  She should have firmly told him that it was for looking only.

We saw some of it in progress, it looked more like a modern art interpretation.  I know we've seen examples of Vi's paintings before, this was definitely not the same style.

Same.  I just don't care about Dante at all anymore.  Don't care about his issues with his father.  Don't care about him and Robyn together.  The worst part about Dante being back in New York is that we are going to see this captain all the time.  The captain being angry and irritable is beyond tired.

It looks like they really are committed to making the show about some big arc villains, and even when they have a case with an individual it will tie into the Big Arc. I'm finding that I don't enjoy it anymore and am just kind of watching out of habit.
