S03.E04: Quarterfinal #4: Roy Wood Jr., Brian Jordan Alvarez and Phoebe Robinson

Recommended Posts

Roy Wood Jr. is right up there with Samantha Bee and Jessica Williams on my list of all-time favorite Daily Show correspondents, so I'm looking forward to him.

I don't recognize the other two by name, but I looked up Brian Jordan Alvarez and he's been in a handful of things I've seen -- yet I still don't recognize him from his picture.  Maybe when I see him "in person".  (I don't recognize Phoebe Robsinson, either, but that's easily explained by the fact I've never seen her in anything.  How I can have seen Alvarez in several things [including Grace and Frankie, which I just re-watched - again - this month] yet have him look wholly unfamiliar to me, I do not know.)

Did anyone see FJ? Who won? My station iinterrupted the game to show footage of the helicopter/airplane crash.

I won’t post here quite yet since probably others are in the same situation, but recap is here:

Also, fwiw, I have YouTube TV in the US eastern time zone, and it had the end of J! on the beginning of the next show, if that helps anyone else.

And , those were nice enough folks (well, assuming some allegations prove false) but Margaret Cho would wipe the floor with them.

Updating to say, nope, still didn't recognize him in the slightest.

While also updating to say Yay!  I'm happy for Roy, especially upon learning of his charity, although I quite liked Phoebe's, too.

I expected to blow entirely the texting abbreviations category since I don't text, so to run it was a pleasant surprise, but to be shouting at the TV for accepting "don't read" instead of "didn't read" for TL; DR was not.  That shouldn't have happened; if I know it, everyone should.

Similarly, amino acid was not a "hard one", Ken, especially with alliterative spotted.

The infarction TS would have stunned me in a regular game, but I guess not here.  The celebrities taking so long to figure out the 100 category, though, I don't know if I can give a pass.  And the Einstein TS, the hell?!

As someone who hates yogurt, I loved the description of it.

Roy saying he deserves to be rooted against by his former substitute teacher was funny.  As is typical, most of everything he said was funny, so I'm glad he's moving on.

I had to look up FJ on The Jeopardy Fan, as the last few minutes of the broadcast in my area was interrupted by the tragedy at DCA.  I hate that airport.  But thinking about heavy balls (heh, again, I'm 12) led me to the correct response.

I thought it was "don't read" so I was surprised at the hesitation in accepting it.

The missing semicolon in the clue seemed wrong to me, so accepting "don't" for "didn't" seemed fair, even though I figured they wouldn't have let it go on regular Jeopardy!

Maybe it's regional?
OTOH, "don't" makes more sense to me, because usually it's used by the writer of the the screed.
But I've always seen it represented as "didn't," so maybe it was originally used by a reader writing a response?

I know Roy Wood, Jr. from the Daily Show and Brian Jordan Alvarez from Will & Grace (Jack's husband). Not super familiar with Phoebe, but I've seen her here and there and I recently watched Clash of the Cookbooks on Netflix (a cooking competition show using various cookbooks, including one where the recipe was in French, and an ancient Egyptian recipe in heiroglyphics) which she cohosted with Max Miller from the channel Tasting History on YouTube.
