Did they rent the house for a movie set in the American version? Or are you thinking of the UK version? Or do you mean Dumb Deaths?

Ghosts don't show up on the internet. Remember in "Holes are Bad" the ghosts tried to Facetime Sam on Mark's phone, and she could neither see nor hear them. I suspect if she tried to connect with other people who claimed to see ghosts she'd just run into a lot of cranks. The ghost doctor told her the ability was very rare.

He was just talking to any ghost he met looking for info.  The ghost he talked to wasn't one of the men who abandoned Thor.  He was just a ghost the other ghosts in the area said was basically the best one "in the know" for finding out information.

Of course how the other ghosts knew this ghost was the best bet for knowing, well ... handwave time.  😄

Imagine a poor shipwreck ghost sitting under there like a lonely Jacques Cousteau…  Sorry, Gunnar, got to stay with the ship, rules are rules.

I’m guessing they have to be attached to some part of the ship because if the ship disintegrates somehow, the ghost can’t be in several places at once.  So there might be a Viking ghost in a museum somewhere that displays, say, a Viking anchor.  Not a bad place to end up in, there are probably other ghosts attached to artifacts there, and you can travel if your thing gets loaned to a different museum.

But what if the part gets broken down more and more, down to the atomic level?  The ghost must be attached to a particular atom that is part of the ship then, right?   And atoms don’t disappear, they just might get converted into a part of a different molecule.  So, if the ghost sees that his ship is being stacked with firewood for a Viking funeral…  He is probably like “oh well, I guess I’ll be one of those flying apparitions now…”

Right.
But in an online Ghost Believers Anonymous-type group, Sam could still observe and recognize the behavior of someone who was obviously talking to an invisible ghost.

Interesting that Isaac said Hetty built the house. We saw an earlier episode where the house was already there when she was a baby and Thor sang to her. And her father threatened to not leave it to her. Also, in the pilot, Jay said the house was 300 years old.

Not great continuity there. But maybe Isaac just meant Hetty was the most recent owner still present.

The transcript shows Isaac saying "Hetty" built the house, but Isaac said it so Thor wouldn't cut Isaac's hand off (again) when Thor wanted to lash out at whoever made so many stairs, so I'm not sure Isaac was telling the truth, especially since most of Isaac's memories have been revealed to be fiction. 

It's possible the house burned down at one point, and Hetty designed the current layout, but I don't recall any mention of anything like that in previous episodes.

Or maybe Hetty was responsible for most of the house, having added onto a smaller, original house. That could fit with her character wanting to keep up appearances of grandiosity.

It was probaby bad continuity, but I do live in a 300 year old house and there is in fact a large addition that was built about 100 years after the original part. The house we see in the exterior shots on the show, though, doesn't look like it could have an addition of that sort. I am thinking either Thor or Isaac misspoke, the transcript has errors, or it's bad continuity.

Weird that Isaac made a comment about John Jay stinking up a carriage when stinking up the place is exactly what Isaac does now whenever someone walks through him.  Weirder that no one called him out on that.

I also dislike the trope that someone loses days, weeks, or years of work when something happens to their laptop. Does anyone really save anything of importance locally anymore? If you don't trust any cloud service (Google, Microsoft, your own email), then use a flash drive. If Jay really lost "all his recipes", he was pretty careless. Presumably, they were all shrimp recipes?

Perhaps not, but not because of what happened. It's still an enviable ability. It just has limitations, which he knew before he took the risk to help Thor.

On that topic, maybe Sam picked the wrong topic to write a book about where Isaac's concerned, 'cause he's been telling some rather unusual and entertaining travel stories lately that could make for a fun read in and of itself :p.
