Well there's six hours of my life I'll never get back. I went into this last episode thinking there's no way they'll be able to tie all this up. So, everyone's dead, basically. Abish, Jacob, Isaac, the army captain, the Mormon thug, Red Feather and all the Shoshone. I guess Bridger survived but his people just chose to burn to death rather than leave? WTF.

I feel cheated we never got the details on who Sara killed or why, other than her saying it was self defense. And we never got to see Devin's father or find out why he left.

I'm not really sure what the point of this show was. That Mormons are bad?

They were never clear on exactly who Sarah killed.  But after she was raped and later woke from a nightmare, she told Isaac that someone used to hold her throat and "take her."  She said, "and then he went after Devon". So defending her son.

Considering that her husband was out west prospecting for gold, and the deceased was apparently someone prominent, I assume he was a family member with whom they were living.  Father, uncle, brother, cousin - someone like that.

I enjoyed that. I haven't watched a Western for a while and this one was grim but pretty gripping. I like that it's only six episodes because that dark tone gets wearing over a longer series run.

Heroes of the show? Isaac, Two Moons, Bridger, Edmund the army captain, Isaac's pimp coat, Edmund's magnificent moustache, and the make-up artist who had to keep Jacob looking like he'd been almost scalped for half the shoot.

I enjoyed this series too. I’m normally not into westerns but this one had the story which was based on true events and I love history. Also liked that it was short because of how dark it was. The constant violence and watching poor massive head wound Jacob suffering was getting taxing.
I was bummed the people I was rooting for got killed especially Isaac.
I thought they would have a season two to explain about why Sara was running and who she killed back East. But they basically killed everyone off so they’d have to bring in a whole new cast.

We found this series compelling, especially with the “based on history” parts.

Bridger was a pip; the actor really nailed his charm, wit, and “don’t give a fuck” attitude. He was a revered mountain man of the era, considered the best. Definitely a survivor. Not sure what was up with the rest of the fort folks staying inside the burning bar?

Glad that Sara, Devin and Two Moons survived after everything they went through. I assume they fictionally made it unscathed to California. Wonder if the husband in Cross Springs was actually real? She turned out to be a badass survivor too.

I could barely look at Jacob; good gawd, imagine how he smelled with all that rotting flesh and dripping blood. Him kissing Abish made me cringe. And what bitter irony that after hunting for her for weeks (months?) and she survives all kinds of horrors and betrayals, he’s the one who kills her.

The “Wild West” is romanticized as the result of a bunch of scrappy can-do explorers who lived off the land and forged their future. But it was clearly the result of clear cutting entire tribes of people, white men doing terrible things at the cost of their women and children, and a lot of dirty dealings by people who are recorded otherwise in history.

I was okay with the blood, guts, and grimness but I'm also a Tarantino fan so I've become desensitized.  I kind of viewed this through the Deadwood lens and went from there.

That said, I found several plot elements to be predictable (Jacob killing himself) and some elements questionable (wolves so unafraid of humans that they would literally dig through a wooden wall to get at them - why not just huff and puff and blow the house down?) and some characters stereotypical in their evilness, or (somehow worse) their brave longsuffering trials and tribulations from which they emerged triumphant, stronger, and nobler than before.

Okay way to kill an hour or two over the course of several days (I've never been a binger), but I wouldn't rewatch.
