I wonder how long are they going to keep going with this joke about the young male nurse being incompetent and a little stupid because it's not funny, it's more like super sad.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about his character, but at least they didn't make the character a "dumb blonde!"  That's a tired trope.

Matt being humbled by the patient was a good ending though. One thing Matt failed to realize was that it was a team effort in saving the guy's life.  He didn't do it all by himself.

Matt also failed to acknowledge that the patient just went through a traumatic experience and he's trying to process all of that.  Matt has a lot to learn!

There are a lot of similarities between these characters and the ones on Superstore, obviously. Matt is the same earnest, green, puppy dog character that Jonah was on Superstore.  Alex is the Amy of this show, the anchor character that sees all the nonsense going on around her. Joyce is sort of similar to Dina, the bulldozer type character.

The scripts are still weak though. The candy bar fight was dumb. So was Matt's quest to get recognition for doing compression, something he complained about the whole time while doing it. The only real laugh I got was at the very end when Val was listing off the animals that had chylamdia and said "what animals don't have chlamydia? Let's look it up."

Superstore could be very hit-or-miss too, especially the last couple of seasons. I think Justin Spitzer needs better writers in the writing room.

She was so nonchalant about everything going on around her! She's probably seen just about everything over the years of her career!

the roleplaying part was really fun

I enjoyed that most as well.  I just love how it got really weird, really quickly.

The candy bar stuff was just dumb, along with the nurse's trite observation that the doctors can put aside their stupidity and work together to save a life.

I was glad he got told off by the patient.  He was on my last nerve by the end of the episode.

So the hospital has a Lucite-encasing machine?  Am I missing something about how Bruce created the footstool?

As petty as Bruce is, Ron is coming off as even worse. Last week, it was the whole business with Serena's car (even though she didn't want to file a complaint, I certainly hope he paid for the damage-that wasn't even mentioned), and this week he basically interfered with a surgery.

I guess while Bruce was creating his Nutrageous work of art, Ron somehow was able to create a recording and swap it for the correct one in the operating suite? Was it on tape? Was it digital? None of this was believable.  A surgeon may have down time, but an attending doctor should be constantly busy. I doubt he could even have a regular date with a candy bar in the stairwell. Matt also seems to have too much time on his hands. Hospitals are generally way understaffed and nurses are overworked.

It's also intrusive to have a video crew taping patients, including some who may be unconscious or have mental difficulties.  Significant waivers would have to be signed, one would think, as the filming is not for purposes of medical necessity.  Very different from filming a paper company, a parks department, or a group of vampires, and even more intrusive then filming in a school (maybe that's a condition of a child being allowed to attend Abbott Elementary.)

If the show were funnier, I wouldn't be thinking about this as much.

He was on my last nerve in the first scene. He's my least favorite character on the show.

I don't know how Matt made it through nursing school.

I've thought that about some of the doctors I've had over the years!  Maybe he's book-smart, but when putting the info to practical use, he's a dud.

Thing is, I've had nursing students tell me that the national boards they take in order to get their license is basically looking at different scenarios and placing in order of importance what you'd do in each situation. Again, maybe Matt has the knowledge, but practicing it in a real-life situation is not his strength.  Kudos though that he managed to do chest compressions (rather badly), but it worked!

I didn't mind the back and forth between the doctor and the surgeon.  I thought it was funny.  I think of people at that level as so elite, but I'm sure there are a few of them that would disappoint me if I saw what went on behind the scenes!
