peridot November 4 Share November 4 Wow, I was not expecting the opening. He was a psycho all along, nobody made him that way. He's a cold bastard, his mother is the only person to matter to him. He easily gave up his men when he saw the bomb. I wasn't expecting for Sal's ending, either. Of course, Oz had to lie and say that he killed him. I'm surprised to see that Francis is still alive. I hate that Vic is caught up in this mess for a guy who has no loyalty to him. Link to comment
Snapdragon November 4 Share November 4 I had suspected that Oz was responsible in some way for his brothers' deaths since they'd been way too vague about them in earlier episodes. Wasn't a fan of the opening though. I'm just over kids being harmed by other kids in shows. It's used regularly enough that I don't find it shocking anymore. It just icks me out. I figured Sal wasn't going to make it, though him dying of a heart attack was pretty anticlimactic. Can see why Oz had to pretend he killed him. Had to keep up appearances, though since he totally ditched out and let his crew be blown to bits, guess it was all for naught. I'm still 50/50 on whether or not Vic and Sofia make it out of the finale alive. I'm okay with Dr. Rush going though. Guy is just super creepy (and was way too eager to mess up/kill a child). 1 Link to comment
paigow November 4 Share November 4 Sofia is going to turn Falcone Manor into an orphanage? Vic is anywhere BUT Crown Point... He is going to every gang HQ in Gotham... Sal should have invested in Beta Blockers instead of Drops / Bliss Link to comment
magdalene November 4 Share November 4 (edited) Oz is a piece of doodoo willing to do anything, kill anybody to get away alive. He is not a penguin. They should call him the cockroach. He created his mothers various hang-ups by killing his brothers. He made her not she him. I am hoping Sofia survives and finds some kind of semblance of acceptance in herself. I am hoping Victor doesn't come back to him and survives. I know none of this will happen. And that sucks. Edited November 4 by magdalene 1 Link to comment

Snazzy Daisy November 4 Author Share November 4 I like this penultimate episode better than episode 04. It gives us the clarity on what made Oz the man he is today. Could Rex Calabrese be Oz’s biological dad? 👀 Oz doesn’t take very kindly to being mocked and made to feel inferior, being called the Penguin etc. It has consequences once his impulsive nature takes over. We consistently see it throughout the show with Alberto, Jack, Benny, Sofia’s henchman etc. Oz doesn’t have a problem abandoning people. He has been doing that since he was young. He only looks out for himself and Francis. In the separate tunnel scenes, it’s a nice contrast between water causing deaths of Oz’s brothers and fire causing destruction in the present day. Another contrast is Oz being alive while Jack and Benny were dead. Oz wanting to build a new life on the very same ground he buried his brothers is wickedly haunting. Sofia’s game is to reveal to Francis what Oz did to his brothers. Losing Francis is the ultimate pain for Oz. Despite everything he has done and how diabolically twisted he is, I still want Oz to win in the end. Only one episode left. 😢 1 Link to comment

I don't think Sofia (or anyone else) knows what Oz did to his brothers. Do we know if their bodies were ever found? I don't know how long it takes a body to decompose in water but eventually their remains would have washed away or been broken down. If they did find them, I guess the door being shut on them would have been suspicious but the police might have concluded that they pulled it shut behind them, not knowing they wouldn't be able to push it open from the inside. I dunno...equipped with the info about Jack and Benny Cobb, ages X and Y, having disappeared in the 80s, it seems plausible to me that someone with Sofia's resources and motivation could perhaps piece together what happened, or at least, that Oz's story about them having gone to the movies was untrue. I have to assume that there was some point where they were declared dead even if their bodies were not found. 4 hours ago, Snazzy Daisy said: I like this penultimate episode better than episode 04. Also, I assume that Jack, Benny and Oz all had the same dad. But maybe they didn't. Have we been told exactly what caused Oz to have a bum leg? I thought it was nice that they connected Oz to comic!Penguin his love of top hats and umbrellas to the movie and the notion of rain being what led to the death of his brothers and Francis lamenting that none of the kids had had protection from it. 7 hours ago, paigow said: These Gotham engineers were trained on the Death Star... The hatch didn't have to necessarily have been watertight....it just had to be one that locked when closed. If the section flooded, it would probably be tough for a pair of panicking teens to maintain composure and find space to breathe. 1 Link to comment
thuganomics85 November 5 Share November 5 Hey, Emily Meade! She certainly becoming an HBO staple: think this is the 4th or 5th series she's been in. No complaints though since she's pretty good. I figured something more was going on with what happened to Oswald's brothers, but I wasn't predicting that he basically killed them as a child. I don't know if that was his initial intent, but he clearly had moments where he could have gone back or informed someone, but he just watched the rain continue to pour down as he smugly watched old movies with his mom. Yikes! His brothers might have been ribbing him a bit there, but they seemed like decent kids and didn't deserve that. But I suspect it never mattered: Oz wanted his mother all to himself. Yeah, he's a strange, scary, sad little bastard! Fare thee well, Sal. Wasn't expecting his downfall to be a sudden heart attack. Kind of anticlimactic, but I did crack up over Oz's upset reaction over not being able to do it himself and then staging it to make it look like he did it all along. Clancy Brown was a delight as always. Oz certainly showed just how loyal he is to his underlings by not even giving them warnings about the bomb before he fled. I hope Vic finds out about this, because he is clearly expendable to him as well. Even if I find Sofia to be more in the right, it was interesting seeing her get into the mud by gaslighting and manipulating her niece. None of these folks are good people, to put it mildly. Looking forward to seeing how they will excuse Batman not noticing that an entire city block basically collapsed. He must have a lot on his plate elsewhere to not notice all of this escalation going on. While I have to imagine Oz will somehow come out on top in the finale, I'm curious to see what will be in store for him and everyone else that is still breathing. Link to comment
