Now I really think Hostile Surgeon is going to be Wolf's love interest. He's totally freaked out that Wolf doesn't acknolwedge him in the hall several times a day, and then Wolf notes Hostile Doc has big hands.

I can’t quite tell why but this show is very strange.  They use different shooting styles for different diseases or disorders.  I’m not liking it very much yet.

That's what was throwing me off! Something felt off for me.

I liked this episode a lot more than the pilot, which felt too much like a watered down version of House/New Amsterdam.

This episode still has a bit of a New Amsterdam vibe (s1 especially, when things were mostly grounded & cohesive, before the show descended into baffling inanity) but it also has its own distinct feel. The cases and overall medicine are nothing new but I like realistic diversity/grit of a New York City hospital and the chemistry between the cast. Also really liking how Quinto plays Wolf. His performance grounds an otherwise gimmicky premise even when he’s saying the cheesiest lines. Not sure it’ll last because for all that it’s sincere and coherent, it’s still pretty routine, & recent medical dramas seem to need a hook or star to sustain an audience.

Me too. I actually thought the primary romance was going to be a clandestine affair between Wolf’s mother and his best friend—something about the line delivery and set up of their scene seemed so flirty to me—but I also saw some chemistry between Wolf and Hostile Doc and hope they go for it. Definitely more interesting than watching the resident’s love stories. I like the fun friendship angle they’ve given those four and would like to see more, before the inevitable romances spring up.

I agree. I also have great sympathy for Wolf in having to deal with his insistently undermining mother -- I don't think he has "Mommy issues," I think his mother has no concept of personal or professional boundaries. (If it turns out that his mother has some degree of narcissistic or antisocial personality disorder, you can colour me unsurprised.) It seems Oliver was unwilling to work at his mother's hospital for a very good reason. I mean, I'm glad to have Donna Murphy back on my tv, but, come on!

Also, show, bump up the lighting budget -- it feels like a haunted hospital in a Ryan Murphy show. (And no, that's not a good thing.)

And yeah -- Teddy Spears is totally playing Dr. Spiky Future Love Interest.
