That it has taken this long for somebody to comment on the episode speaks volumes about how boring it was. I’m delighted to get Atwater and Ruzek back on my screen, but that was a boring episode even with the twist at the end.

And where is Marina? Was I correct in speculation last season that they have been playing ‘hide the pregnancy’ and she’s just wrapping up her maternity leave?

I ended up watching the first 5 minutes or so and then finishing up chores before going to bed. PD could be interesting again, but I lost interest when it became the Hailey show last season.

Marina is there; she posted on her Instagram that she was at Torrey Devito's bachelorette party and wedding. Maybe she just needed a few extra days off.

It’s a decent S12 premiere. The camerawork for the “overworked” sequence is fantastic. Am not complaining about shirtless Voight. I just hope he remembers to take a shower. 😆

Plot wise, it is same ol’ same ol’. Voight is spiralling and coping with his trauma just like Hailey did — burying himself in work. 🙄 Isn’t he supposed to be on mandated therapy sessions before getting cleared to work?

Detective Emily Martel gets her debut in S12 only to get killed by the end of the episode. It’s Detective Jules Willhite all over again.

Hopefully Deputy Chief Reid is a good guy. If he’s going after Voight and using his PTSD to force him out, that will be too cliché and predictable.

It seems like LaRoyce has been hitting the gym during the break. Paddy has lost some weights and he looks good.

Chicago PD without Upton is refreshing. If she is still around, this premiere will abso-f*cking-lutely revolve around her. 🙄

Marina just gave birth when pd started filming . She won’t be in the first 2 episodes .

My theory was right! I hope she and her baby are doing well.

I really enjoyed it, but that's probably two-fold. The first time I've watched since episode 3 last season, so I've missed Ruzek, Atwater et al. So it was good to see them back.

secondly... She's GONE

I missed Kim, imagine the banter between her & Emily over 'Ruzey'.

It definitely felt like a re-set, a return to early season form. I think we need to accept that it is a procedural cop shop so there are only so many ways to skin the cat. Despite the darkness and dead bodies piling up it FELT lighter. I have hope.

The opening sequence & seeing that whiteboard was enough to bring me joy. I can finally just sit back & enjoy it for what it is.

And oh boy, that look on Adam's face at the end. Paddy is underrated as an actor.

Can't wait to see what he brings next week.

Voight's never seen a mandatory requirement he couldn't ditch, I bet.

I absolutely loved this episode, aside from it now being an Upton Free Zone. I asked this on "Fire" as well, but did One Chicago get new writers and/or directors? Pacing was fast and and the cinematography was absolutely fantastic at times, especially that one color desaturation scene where it looked like Rabbit was bleeding out at the end, as well as the intro montage.

Voight in the box with EJ was extraordinarily good and very realistic, IMHO. Far less eye-roly than interviews in the past. Can this all hold together? We can only hope. But a big victory overall by de-Uptonizing PD.

I gave this episode another chance, and it wasn't bad.  I haven't really "loved" the show since Sophia Bush left and upset the dynamic of the original cast, but this one was better than previous seasons.  If the show can continue to focus on Atwater and Ruzek, it could be pretty good again.  I wasn't the biggest Ruzek fan, but I guess now I'm nostalgic for the original show, so he's grown on me.  Seeing the new woman get shot right in front of him was heartbreaking (even though I didn't know her at all).

I'm probably missing something obvious but what was the point of Voight changing shirts all the time? (Other than showing off the Beghe's bod, of course.) I'm guessing it had something to due with the trauma but I can't remember that far back to the last season's finale.

My take on it was that he never went home.  He was basically living at the station and working 24/7.

Ahh, ok. Kinda makes sense. Although his pants must be getting really funky by now. Or maybe he closed the office door if he changed those.

I have to wonder what the plans are for Voight's overall arc in the next year or two. IRL, from what I read, Chicago cops have to retire at 63. Mr. Beghe himself is 64, and he definitely looks older than that, despite being in great shape. The show is likely going to be renewed for at least one or two seasons so I think they'll seriously have to think about casting a new unit commander at some point.
