Jordan Baker May 19 Share May 19 I enjoyed many things about this show. The Irish setting is wonderful. The story/mystery is interesting. The acting is good. (I was particularly impressed by David Wilmot as Seamus.) We watched an episode a night, and I looked forward to each new one. I did, however, dislike this last episode. I didn't like the way the story wrapped up, and there's a particularly distressing bit that I was not expecting. The labeling of this as a comedy (even if dark is used to describe it) seems very off to me. 1 Link to comment
shrewd.buddha May 21 Share May 21 (edited) We sampled it, mostly because it was new, and we were drawn in because it seemed like a quirky cozy murder mystery. Taking jabs at the current podcast craze was enjoyable - because you can't go five minutes without hearing about someone's podcast these days. In the end, it felt as if the show didn't know what it wanted to be: a comedy, a murder mystery or a quaint Irish dramedy. There was a feeling of unfinished business at the end -a lot like Dove and Emmy's hook-ups in the village: messy, undefined and unresolved. But we did stick with it until the end, which is what seems to matter these days. Edited May 22 by shrewd.buddha 3 1 Link to comment
isalicat May 31 Share May 31 Well, I just finished this last evening (all the episodes spaced out on an every other night basis) and although it was mostly enjoyable due to the setting and great acting, the story was so convoluted (and I love complicated murder mysteries) as to be nonsensical at the end. I don't see that anyone really gained any real self knowledge they did not already have and the three podcasters had all acted so hatefully towards each other at one point or another that it stumps me as to why they would bother to ever have anything to do with each other ever again. Emmy growing a spine is a good thing; how she chose to then act was like an entitled brat, so not so good. Eh...oh well. 2 Link to comment
Zaffy June 16 Share June 16 Well, overall we enjoyed this one. I am not into podcasts, true crime or not, so I might have missed something from the show's message, but still I liked the scenery and the acting. Hopefully they did not do too much typecasting as Ireland and Irish people concern. Not sure how the trio bonded with each other at the end.. nothing really justified that.. Anyway, I would give it a 6.5/10, which is quite a lot for something you find in Netflix nowadays. Link to comment
Kel Varnsen June 26 Share June 26 Watched it over the last week or so and it wasn't perfect but I enjoyed it. It was weird seeing Will Forte do something dramatic since the most recent thing I really saw him in was The Last Man on Earth which was pure comedy. But he did a good job. And the scenery and the setting were amazing. If they did a second season I would definitely watch it. The only thing I didn't really like was how it was a bit hard to follow all the mystery twists. There were a few times I had to go back to a previous episode to remind myself of something. And Teddy as a kid I guess, killing a hardened criminal like Malachy didn't really work for me. 1 Link to comment
meep.meep September 20 Share September 20 Late as usual. I like it but it was weird. The guy who plays Teddy can really sing! Loved the exchange between Dove and Gilbert in the cell where she accuses him of being a pornographer and he says "I guess this is how all of your relationships end." At at the pit - "I lost my sunglasses" Link to comment
