Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo

I just saw a little preview of the one with Kathy and Jed. They have only known each other for five years, yet have four kids. Katey was crying about how helpful Jed is after she has been alone with kids all day. I don’t imagine that Anna could ever say that – except for that infamous crumb incident.

They really did rush into this whole thing. You can still barely know someone after five years. Especially if you didn’t date/court for long before. Different personalities can come out after a number of years. You let your guard down finally with a partner and all your crazy is in the open. Although neither of them had any experience in anything, so it’s probably only childhood crazy that shows itself.

This was more interesting than I thought it would be.

They're not saying no a couple more kids, but not for a while.  Katey said since there are twins on both sides, she has an 80% chance of having another set of twins.

I had no idea Katey had a pilot's license.

Katey has no idea what she is talking about when it comes to chances of twins.  First, it is only fraternal twins that run in families; which means the woman releases 2 eggs or more during her cycle.  The partner and his family history have no role in the incidence of fraternal twinning.  Identical twins occur when the egg splits after it has been fertilized and this is a random occurrence; no hereditary risk.

If a woman has had fraternal twins without fertility drugs, or if she has first degree relatives (mom, sister, her child) who've had fraternal twins, the incidence is 5% per pregnancy compared to the 1% in those without familial history of twins.  The risk is independent of her past history, each pregnancy represents a 5% chance of twins.  Twinning is multifactorial, meaning it depends on multiple genes to occur.

Even if twins were autosomal dominant, the risk would be no more than 50%, not the 80% Katey is claiming.  Autosomal dominant issues are passed parent to child and only requires one copy of a single gene to be passed along. Multiple forms of dwarfism as well as Huntington's disease are examples.

In no possible universe does Katey have an 80% chance of another set of twins.  She has a 100% chance of being an ignorant twit, though.

I almost shudder to say, but I found Jed to be very likable. He seems very sensitive and kind. He is not his brother’s brother. (you know what I mean). He gets compared to Josh so much, but he seems the exact opposite. He was even crying a lot. Something I could never picture Josh doing over anything.

The one thing I never agree with is that your partner comes above your children. My children will always be first. And I have been married a very long time. He said God, partner, and then children. I would literally die for my kids at any time. I love my husband, but it’s just a different thing.

There is even a cute diagram showing how the husband protects everyone under his "umbrella of authority" or some such thing.  God first, then the husband/father.  And Husband has the last say in all things.  Wife is next in line, and children come last.  Wife and kids must stay under his umbrella of protection.  I sometimes refer to JB the The Umbrella.
