M. Darcy December 4, 2014 Share December 4, 2014 It's a small British world - Timothy West (who has worked with BC) plays the character on Eastenders that Mick thinks is his father. It's official - BC is playing Doctor Strange - http://marvel.com/news/movies/23754/benedict_cumberbatch_to_play_doctor_strange Link to comment
M. Darcy December 5, 2014 Share December 5, 2014 (edited) Its just the month of Snozzlebert Custardbath. Next week BBC Radio Four is broadcasting 2 episodes of Rumpole with BC - Thurs 11/12 & Fri 12/12. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01p9l1s. Oh, and anyone can listen to BBC Radio 4 on their website - you don't need to be in England or have tunnelbear or anything. Edited December 5, 2014 by M. Darcy 1 Link to comment
rereader2 December 5, 2014 Share December 5, 2014 Its just the month of Snozzlebert Custardbath. Ha! It sure seems to be. There were a whole slew of articles about the Doctor Strange casting (Time, People, Us, all of them), but they don't really add anything to the announcement. Link to comment
M. Darcy December 5, 2014 Share December 5, 2014 The weekend of December 20th will really be all BC all weekend - that's when I'll (hopefully) be seeing both The Imitation Game and The Hobbit. 1 Link to comment

M. Darcy December 8, 2014 Share December 8, 2014 (Another) article (this one from People) on reasons to love BC - http://www.people.com/people/gallery/0,,20880249_30257642,00.html#30257641 "I play a complete idiot Martin Crieff in a radio show called Cabin Pressure" Aw, Martin isn't a complete idiot. Its just silly - he's been doing Cabin Pressure since 2008 and people in the press still are surprised that he can do comedy. And, I've probably said this already, but if anyone hasn't joined the brilliant world of Cabin Pressure, its hysterical. Link to comment
rereader2 December 8, 2014 Share December 8, 2014 (edited) I mean to listen to Cabin Pressure, I always mean to... *** Surprise! Benedict is pleased and excited to be cast as Doctor Strange (really? I thought he'd be despondent): ComicBook.com MTV EntertainmentWise (There are more, but they say the same thing.) And then there's this video (also found on the pages of several of the links). It's at BIFA, and he starts talking about the Variety award he got, but Hey U Guys (and the links above) focus on the Doctor Strange thing: Among those reporting on the BIFA Variety Award (rather than Doctor Strange) were: the Mirror, which has a video that I hope is Benedict's acceptance speech, but it's just "loading" interminably for me; Hello! has photos as well as a story; and the Mirror has a second story reporting on Sophie's outfit at the event. M. Darcy December 8, 2014 Share December 8, 2014 Not that many - we are just in season 2 :-) Plus, each episode is only 30 minutes so its easy to catch up. Though, be forewarned. Once you listen to all of Cabin Pressure, you will want to then listen to John Finnemore's other radio show - Souvenir Programme. The expression is you come for the Cumberbatch and stay for the Finnemore. Plus, its really interesting to hear Brandybuck Snickersbar play a character that isn't very sure of himself. 1 Link to comment

M. Darcy December 9, 2014 Share December 9, 2014 (edited) I wonder if it's from the archives. It doesn't give a date and back in the olden days, he did a lot of stuff for Radio 4. One of which is being released on CD next week http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mansfield-Park-full-cast-dramatisation-Dramatisations/dp/1910281808/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1418096068&sr=8-6&keywords=Mansfield+park I'm hoping it will also be on sale on iTunes. dusang December 11, 2014 Share December 11, 2014 The podcast is pretty good -- Nerdist is pretty freeform and can be very interesting but the hosts can be incredibly annoying at times. But they do let him talk freely for the most part, which is worthwhile listening. Link to comment
halopub December 12, 2014 Share December 12, 2014 (edited) I'm not sure when Comedy Central will upload the video but Ben appeared on Colbert as Smaug, getting to make fun of himself a bit. rereader2 December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 From the Carpetbagger blog at The New York Times, there is a quite interesting piece about costuming The Imitation Game; it seems Benedict worked quite a lot with the costume designer. Surely that's quite unusual? Link to comment
rereader2 December 21, 2014 Share December 21, 2014 Another Imitation Game-related interview: Benedict Cumberbatch has a genius for multitasking. (It branches out some.) rereader2 December 22, 2014 Share December 22, 2014 Some art showing Benedict as Doctor Strange--tweeted by the movie director, so it might be fan art or it might be concept art, no way to know: Is this what Benedict Cumberbatch will look like as Doctor Strange? (Radio Times) 1 Link to comment
rereader2 December 24, 2014 Share December 24, 2014 From the Standard: Benedict Cumberbatch and Stephen Fry join 'Save Soho' video campaign. Interesting that the headline reads that way, since Benedict says exactly two words in the thing. (He's up last--BTW, surely he must be in costume from Richard III there?): *** And the Salt Lake Tribune has another Imitation Game-centric interview with Benedict. Link to comment
rereader2 December 29, 2014 Share December 29, 2014 Vulture has published more bits from their Benedict interview. (BTW, I think Benedict is dead wrong about Sherlock being a sociopath--what he is is self-centered and willfully oblivious...most of the time.) 1 Link to comment
rereader2 December 30, 2014 Share December 30, 2014 If you're a vote-y type of person, Benedict is one of the choices for Breakout Star of 2014 in USA Today's Take Your Pick poll. (It's a short one, only three categories.) Link to comment

rereader2 December 31, 2014 Share December 31, 2014 (edited) It won't be in the paper until Sunday (or at least, until Saturday, when most of the weekend sections are delivered), but it's online now: The New York Times has a nice article about Benedict in their "Awards Section" this weekend, Showing the Smarts to Play the Genius. And Epix has a roundtable (in this case, a coffee table) discussion online and Benedict is one of the participants: Hollywood Sessions: Lead Actor. (If you'd like a little preview, Bustle.com has a clip, along with an explanation, which as it happens I needed to understand the joke.) It's well worth the hour, it's a very interesting group. dusang January 7, 2015 Share January 7, 2015 It seems to have been officially announced - there is going to be a Cumberbaby! Benedict and Sophie are going to be parents! The most startling part of the announcement was the note that they announced their engagement three months ago -- what the hell happened to the last three months?!? I thought that was three WEEKS ago!! (I think that's more a reflection on me than Benedict & Sophie, though.) Link to comment
rereader2 January 7, 2015 Share January 7, 2015 Two months ago, I think--according to the (confirmed by publicist) piece in The Guardian, they got engaged Nov. 5. :) Mazel tov to the two of them! Benedict has been very open for years about wanting to have children, which makes this news even happier. Link to comment
rereader2 January 7, 2015 Share January 7, 2015 In non-Cumberbaby-related news, there's an article on CNET about Benedict; it seems to me to basically be a rehash of the WSJ interview, but I could be misremembering.
