The TV Series "High Potential" on ABC is based on a French TV Series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI) starring Audrey Fleurot and Mehdi Nebbou. The plot remains the same, a single mom with three kids and an exceptional mind helps solve an unsolvable crime when she rearranges some evidence during her shift as a cleaner for the police department. When they discover she has a knack for putting things in order because of her HIP (High Intellectual Potential), she is brought on as a consultant to work with a by-the-book seasoned detective, and together they form an unusual and unstoppable team. Czech and Slovakian localized versions of this show are also being produced.

Tired of waiting for High Potential to be released on ABC. The streaming of all 3 seasons of the original (2021) French TV Series HIP - High Intellectual Potential (HPI - Haut Potentiel Intellectuel) on July 12, 2024 on Hulu might just be the thing to hold you over until the U.S. remake launches. Seasons 1, 2 and 3 are 8 episodes each. Season 4 is currently airing in France, but there was no mention of a Hulu acquisition.

One night, while working as a cleaning lady in a police station, Morgane can’t resist “tidying up” the elements on an investigation board. When the cops return the next day, they realize she’s brought them a giant step closer to finding the suspect. It turns out Morgane has High Intellectual Potential. But her 160 IQ has never really helped Morgane in her everyday life!

After questioning her and testing her method, the police decide to bring her on board to help them track down and catch highly intelligent criminals. Despite the mismatched duo she forms with the brigade’s captain, their first joint effort is a success.

Morgane strikes a deal with the cops: she agrees to work for them, but in exchange, they have to work for her, reopening a missing persons investigation into her first true love, who vanished fifteen years ago when she was pregnant with their child.

Great cast, but based on the previews, this looks awful. I only posted this because each time I see the ad for it, I am further annoyed.

“A procedural in the vein of ‘Columbo’ or ‘Murder, She Wrote,’”🧐

Didn't read the article, so maybe they explained it that made sense, but I don't see that at all.  Maybe Murder, She Wrote, because I didn't watch that much or really remember it, but I definitely don't see Columbo in this show.

The promo for the next new episode, on Nov 12, indicates it’s the Fall finale. That’s pretty early but I guess with only 13 episodes, they want to have episodes for midseason

For completeness, here's the trailer for the original French one too (that the Greek one, and now the American one were copied from.  It's a recent Hulu branded trailer... not sure if it's the actual original trailer or recut.

There's definitely common stuff with the American pilot.

How Quirky Female Crime-Solvers Took Over TV
By Laura Bradley   November 19, 2024
https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/tv/2024/11/19/female-detectives-tv-shows-matlock-elsbeth-high-potential/

Quote

... Kaitlin Olson’s new ABC crime drama, “High Potential,” averaged more than 10 million viewers for its first two episodes across all viewing platforms. ....
*  *  *
For this reason, otherness is often a hallmark of the detective genre as well. This new crop of female sleuths echoes that tradition; these characters are easy to underestimate and overlook, whether it be because of their gender, manner, age or social station.
*  *  *
... In “High Potential,” Olson’s Morgan is a meddlesome genius and struggling single mom whose inability to let go of a problem makes it hard for her to hold down a job. ....

Indeed, Charlie, Morgan and Elsbeth all process information differently from their peers. As Ohmer sees it, detective figures are usually “outsiders in a way that is emblematic of their time,” and these characters, who come at a time when our society is more aware of (and fascinated by) neurodiversity than ever, are no exception. “They’re speaking to us in that way,” she said.
*  *  *
Though the women who populate the crime dramas of today are notably contemporary, they share a key characteristic with their literary forebears — a nebulous relationship with law enforcement. “There’s a long tradition of a certain kind of detective being at odds with the cops,” Thorburn said. “It goes back to Sherlock Holmes, who always mocked the London police and kept exposing them.” A true-to-trope private eye character is a liminal figure, according to Thorburn — a free agent who stands with one foot in the “decent” world and one foot in a murkier, more legally ambiguous one. Distrust of authority, it seems, is timeless.
*  *  *
In “High Potential,” the police, particularly Daniel Sunjata’s Detective Karadec, resent Olson’s meddlesome character, Morgan, who works on the building’s janitorial staff before she is hired to work alongside him. She takes the job in part so the LAPD will help her investigate her daughter’s father, who disappeared 15 years ago. ....
*  *  *
Consciously or subconsciously, Meyers agreed, audiences gravitate toward anybody who can rescue us from the madness of real life and soothe our need for justice. “So now, here we’ve got this whole group saying, ‘We got this. Relax. At least for an hour every week, you can go to a place where somebody is the voice of reason.’”
