Batman is a fascist!

I loved that Jaime graduated from Gotham University (the sweatshirt he was wearing when he talked to his dad on their lawn). I hope he got some great (Wayne) scholarships. I can't imagine going from the home we saw to Gotham City.

I went this afternoon and really enjoyed this. The family stuff was amazing. I loved all of them and hope we get more. However, I was really angry about

the dad's death. Not every superhero origin story has to involve losing a parent! He's still alive in the comics.

One thing I wasn't expecting from a super hero movie was how awesome and 3 dimensional all of the women were (except Victoria who was just evil). Aging up Milagro (she's a lot younger than Jaime in the comics) was the right call. The sibling relationship and the support they gave each other was fantastic. Nana was the best, obviously. And Jenny was a whole person, not just a love interest.

Interview with a couple of the concept artists for the film, and some of the concept art: https://screenrant.com/blue-beetle-movie-phillip-boutte-mike-uwandi-interview/

One of the key things for us that we try to do is make sure that we're not only having diversity on the project, but making sure that they have equity. And so they literally had a say and Angel was very open with collaborating back and forth and finding cultural references, which obviously came through in the film with the family and all the references that they had. He just wanted it to feel as authentic as possible and that's why we were there.

Everybody was really excited about trying to be as authentic as possible, but also making sure that he looked like Blue Beetle. That was a key thing. But my thing has always been the cinematic version. So in live action, you're translating and providing something that you can't get from the comic book or from what you had before, but it's important for that to look like the coolest version of what you could have imagined from that thing from the source material.

I loved one of the early scenes where his arm transforms into a gun and it is totally a ZF-1 from The Fifth Element.

Fun movie, lots of heart and actual emotion, decent villain and good supporting characters! I'm more of a Marvel fan myself but I would put this one in DC's win column.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting a blockbuster; but I still think that this could have done better if it had been promoted better. The response from those who have seen it has been mostly positive.

Yes, this was one of the better DC live action films.  Even without the summer strikes, WB didn't give the same marketing push.  I know the Aquaman sequel is yet to come, but I suspect that, of the 3 DC films this year, this will be the best one yet the least supported. Which is a shame.

Xolo shared some BTS photos and video on his instagram:

I legitimately think Xolo is set for a pretty dang prolific career. He just hits the bullet points of modern celebrity so well.

It was simple, kept the stakes local, and you cared about the characters. Something a lot of bloated movies pass over.

Here's a related question:  How would "Maria la del Barrio" be translated?  Would it be "Maria, she of the neighborhood"?  The "la" in there kind of throws me off.  Why wouldn't it just be "Maria del Barrio"?
