I doubt Lithgow is struggling to make ends meet. The fact that he is choosing to do this project, at this point in time, does say something about him and what he thinks is important. I think anyone that willingly works for her - I mean that has the financial means to make an actual choice- is trash. Jmo.

But he's not the first, nor the last to work with her or socialize with her.

Honestly, I expect the list of people who have paid lip service to supporting various marginalized groups who will drop it when it becomes too inconvenient to keep up will grow. This is just a general comment, not specific to Lithgow. I have no idea what kinds of things he supports. It's just something I expect to see.more and more of.

Whether people watch or not, eh I won't but I expect in the current climate it will be successful. Or at least it won't fail bc people care that she is a terrible human being

I agree. There's a difference between an actor or actress who has no choice but to work or take any work they can get. Not everyone is in position to turn down roles and have it not hurt their career and/or bank account. I judge the hell out of those who do have the choice and can turn down roles and continue to work with problematic directors, actors, actresses and writers.

John Lithgow has always been okay by me, and I can't begrudge him his right to work. Now, if he got on his soapbox and started blathering about poor Joann being the victim of "cancel culture" and the "woke mob" and blah, blah, blah... yeah, I'd probably look at him with a very jaundiced eye from that point on.

There are only so many people I can cancel out of my life. A ton of actors I like or even love have worked with either Polanski or Allen or both. Sad, but true.

It's sad and depressing. It really shouldn't be that hard to find directors, actors, actresses and writers who aren't child molesters, rapists, or murderers. I know someone always points out that if you look in the past so many artists, theater and etc were horrible or worse. Which is just as sad. I was watching an old Law & Order episode where Jamie learns her hero/idol first woman Navy pilot was a murderer. Jack told her he got over Pete Rose.

And all I could think was. Well, at least she's just a murderer Jamie. At least she's not a homophobic or a child rapist. With so many writers, actors, actress, directors, artists, musicians, etc. It feels like sometimes you have to decide what's worse or you won't have anything to watch, read or listen too. Something horrible seems to always be coming out on new someone. It really sucks.

In Lithgow’s most recent movie, he plays the gay grandfather of a non-binary teen. I am inclined to give him more leeway than many other actors on issues like this.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he knows very little about Rowling being transphobic.

JKR is young enough to be his daughter in RL so that would make sense.

Her opinions are hers to express and others a free to express their opinion that she is a transphobe.

She says that she is fine with trans individuals being free to make their own choices but she also bullied an Olympic boxer she thought looked too masculine to be a cis woman and she lost her shit over the phrase “people who menstruate”. So, whatever lip service she pays to not being a transphobe rings really hollow to me.

Yes, if I remember her first statements were out of touch, but she has since made it clear she has doubled down. If nothing else she could be quiet, having stated her opinion. And she hasn’t been quiet. She apparently feels pretty strongly about the subject.

It certainly does say something about him & that something is that he needs to work to pay his bills & that's what is important to him. Not some virtue signaling and not taking a job because someone who wrote something has abhorrent views.

He doesn't seem to be out of work in any way.

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001475/

The last high-profile job was Oscar showered Killers of the Flower Moon from 2023. And he's one of the leads in an FX show with Jeff Bridges up until at least 2024. So, I don't think it's money.

Although I could imagine at his age, he might not know anything about J.K. Rowling beyond her work. Even my sister (a younger Gen X) didn't know until I told her about it. She just doesn't really follow entertainment news in any form.
