S01.E02: Four Geniuses

I was cringing at that awkward flirting scene between Steve and Irene.  I was surprised that Steve thought the one-time dance routine would be enough.  You got to keep things fresh.

I felt bad for the original guys that were fired.

I don't blame Otis for being uncomfortable with the kissing and groping, the woman's hands were deep in his underwear.  Good for him for trying to expand his skills.

The look at the end doesn't bode well between Nick and Steve.  I hate that Nick didn't try to make his request in private and went straight to the ultimatum.  The season's preview looks good, I may try to keep Hulu after my trial ends.

Oh man, that Blondie's Call Me takes me back to American Gigolo, every time!

I love seeing Nick doing his choreography things.

The ladies with naughty fingers, touching and groping Otis - ugh, very creepy!

Breakaway pants - genius!!! 👍🏻😆

ETA: Some additional thoughts…

We begin to see power struggle between Steve and Nick.

Four geniuses, will we be seeing 2 competing camps of Steve/Irene vs Nick/Denise? Poor Otis, he’s caught in the middle of this.

“He’s black.”- Steve

”Is that a problem?”- Nick

”No, it’s good, the customers will love it.”- Steve

I love how Nick handled that. There are black people in LA, Steve, maybe black women would like to come to your club. Also he was the best dancer out there. I get where Otis is coming from, performing is hard, and if he’s got a family to feed, he needs to think about his next career.

I think Steve was thinking more along the lines that a lot of white women fetishize Black men. I liked how this was played: his gut reaction was racism, but then his business sense quickly took over. It was a very brief interaction, but revealed a lot about Steve's character.

Yes I agree 100%, we are on the same page. It also showed us that Nick had an eye for talent and that’s what he cared about.

I thought his choices for dancers was interesting. Some of the better looking ones were dismissed, so he was more interested in dance ability than looks. Few of them have the smooth, hard gym bodies I associate with Chippendales dancers now.
