1899 is a 8 episode series that streams on November 17 on Netflix, created by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, co-creators of Dark, the German-language time-travel series on Netflix, which ran for 3 seasons.

A migrant steamship, the Kerberos, heads west leaving the old continent, London for New York. The passengers, are a mixed cast from many different countries, united by their hopes and dreams for the new century and their future abroad. But their journey takes an unexpected turn when they discover another migrant ship, the Prometheus, that has been missing for months, sunk at the bottom of the ocen before being retuned to the surface, adrift on the open sea, without a soul onboard. What they will find, will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare.

Being true to the cultures and the languages was really important, we didn't want to have characters be from different countries, but everyone speaks English, we decided to have the show be in multiple languages. We wanted to explore this heart of Europe, where everyone comes from somewhere else and speaks a different language, and language defines so much of your culture and your behavior. There will be points in the show where characters have problems communicating because of the languages.
(I have include the nationality of the actors so as to give some indication of what language they might possibly be speaking.)

Don't expect for everything to be explained right away as the creators are hoping to get 3 seasons.

This is so disappointing. Seems like Netflix keeps canceling all the supernatural/paranormal shows (1899, Warrior Nun, The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself, The Midnight Club, etc.). I read somewhere it doesn't matter to Netflix what the ratings are, only if the shows are bringing in new subscribers.

Pretty much nothing left on Netflix that I watch now...
