AnimeMania October 30, 2022 Share October 30, 2022 1899 is a 8 episode series that streams on November 17 on Netflix, created by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, co-creators of Dark, the German-language time-travel series on Netflix, which ran for 3 seasons. A migrant steamship, the Kerberos, heads west leaving the old continent, London for New York. The passengers, are a mixed cast from many different countries, united by their hopes and dreams for the new century and their future abroad. But their journey takes an unexpected turn when they discover another migrant ship, the Prometheus, that has been missing for months, sunk at the bottom of the ocen before being retuned to the surface, adrift on the open sea, without a soul onboard. What they will find, will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare. Being true to the cultures and the languages was really important, we didn't want to have characters be from different countries, but everyone speaks English, we decided to have the show be in multiple languages. We wanted to explore this heart of Europe, where everyone comes from somewhere else and speaks a different language, and language defines so much of your culture and your behavior. There will be points in the show where characters have problems communicating because of the languages. (I have include the nationality of the actors so as to give some indication of what language they might possibly be speaking.) Don't expect for everything to be explained right away as the creators are hoping to get 3 seasons. Emily Beecham plays Maura Franklin, a forthright, mysterious woman with a fascinating background. Maura is one of the first women to study medicine in England, but she is migrating to New York to practice medicine, since she is not allowed to do so in England during this time period. Andreas Pietschmann plays Eyk Larsen, the German Captain of the ship who has a problem with alcohol Aneurin Barnard: (British actor) as Daniel Jonas Bloquet as Lucien, (actor of French nationality) via arranged marriage, this groom is on honeymoon with his bride, Clémence. Mathilde Ollivier as Clémence, (actress of French nationality) a French woman with a Parisian bourgeois background, Clémence is trapped in an arranged marriage with someone she doesn't love at all, and her goal on the ship is to discover the New World and forge her own path, no longer subjecting herself to bow and smile like the perfect girl everyone expects her to be. Isaak Dentler as Franz (German) Miguel Bernardeau: (actor of Spanish nationality) Maciej Musial: (actor of Polish nationality) as Olek Anton Lesser: (British actor) Rosalie Craig: (English actress) as Virginia Alexandre Willaume: (Danish actor) Clara Rosager: (Danish actress) Maria Erwolter: (Danish actress) Yann Gael: (Cameroonian actor) as Jérôme, who is seeking revenge on the person that betrayed him and they may be on the ship José Pimentão: (Portuguese actor) as Ramiro Isabella Wei: (Chinese actress) as Ling Yi Gabby Wong: (Chinese actress) as Yuk Je Jonas Bloquet: (Belgian actor) Fflyn Edwards: (Welsh actor) as Elliot, a young child Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen: (Danish actor) 1 Link to comment

Lebanna January 2, 2023 Share January 2, 2023 Cancelled. https://tvline.com/2023/01/02/1899-cancelled-at-netflix/ Makes no sense, this show was the biggest non-Wednesday thing in most markets for weeks and weeks. Stupid Netflix. Again. 6 Link to comment

libgirl2 January 3, 2023 Share January 3, 2023 I was commenting on another board how I remember them doing that to Messiah, which we really enjoyed. We never got to find out if the guy was a or the Messiah or just someone evil. Link to comment
Lunula January 10, 2023 Share January 10, 2023 (edited) This is so disappointing. Seems like Netflix keeps canceling all the supernatural/paranormal shows (1899, Warrior Nun, The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself, The Midnight Club, etc.). I read somewhere it doesn't matter to Netflix what the ratings are, only if the shows are bringing in new subscribers. Pretty much nothing left on Netflix that I watch now...
