When a devastating storm leads to an overflow of patients and limited resources, Sam and her team are forced to make impossible choices about their patients’ care. Also, Dr. Rob Griffith connects with a young patient admitted with a rare heart condition.

I call piling on.

They conjured up every crisis they could possibly fit in an hour show.

And guess what. . . . it's TO BE CONTINUED next week. GMAFB!

Where I live, if a major storm is expected tomorrow, many hospital employees (clinical and other) will go in today, prepared to stay and work for several days.  I suspect that the real Detroit (or wherever this show is set) is the same way.

They should have started recruiting blood donors long before the midpoint of the episode.

I enjoyed this one, even with the cliche pile on and manufactured drama.  I said in another thread: the show is enjoyable when the characters are allowed room to breathe and act as people rather than locked into the never ending war over a job title.

Though honestly most of my enjoyment came from how unrealistic this hospital is.  Apparently cardio thoracic surgery is the *only* department, otherwise why is Sam making decisions about requiring staff to stay on after their shift ended? (And why didn’t they plan for staffing needs *before* the storm?). I know conservation of characters, but it could have been addressed through dialogue. “Just got an email/page from hospital leadership - we all need to stay because roads are bad, all hands on deck.”

Water pipes can absolutely freeze in a matter of hours. I live in Kansas City, and when we get below freezing, we're advised to let our taps drip and keep the doors to our water pipes open so that heat can get to them so they don't freeze. Why a hospital in Detroit doesn't know that or have backup generators all over the place is anyone's guess.
