Absolom November 4 Share November 4 1 hour ago, Gramto6 said: Today, tis errands, garbage up the road, small grocery shopping, and PO. Then hopefully some work in the garage. And just maybe make up my mind on a printer!! A few months ago I bought myself a smallish b/w laser printer. I've loved it. Last month I lost my patience as daughter and grandson struggled to get their old color inkjet to produce his homework assignment. I ordered them a color laser. I found both printers on sale just above half list price on Amazon. They've worked pretty much effortlessly. I don't know what your budget is, but with the laser you won't have to deal with having to frequently buy the pricey color cartridges so figure that in the cost calculation. 1 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8498788
precious pupp November 4 Share November 4 I like the convenience of city living. That's how I grew up. We have sewer, garbage pickup once a week (recycling optional) and city water. I can walk to the bank, fabric store, drug store, dollar store, and hardware store. The grocery store closed a few years ago, which I miss when I only needed a couple of items. My daughter lives in a rural area and they haul garbage to a "transfer station." People can leave still useable items in a certain area, and she's taken home some stuff. I sometimes wish we lived on a less busy street. If and when we move, it's going to be a house or condo without stairs. I like to "tour" houses on Zillow, and see what prices houses are going for. Tomorrow is election day. We live in interesting times, that's for sure. 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8498791

I hate being on well water with septic but the trade off is lower taxes and the privacy and beauty of living on a secluded street in nature. But although we can't really walk to anything we also live very close to civilization so it's kind of a best of both worlds situation. Interesting times for sure. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8499321
Gramto6 November 5 Share November 5 (edited) 4,969 steps yesterday. My errands amounted to most of my steps yesterday. Did a few chores and then had lots of cat in lap time while researching on computer. The time change always messes with my energy for a couple of days while I adjust. I can't say how much I wish we'd just get rid of it!! I finally decided on an inexpensive Cannon Pixma inkjet printer, I really don't print much so this one will be fine. And if it dies in a year or two, at $39, I can easily replace it. The last time I had a Cannon Pixma, it lasted years and it was not an expensive one either so I think this one will do me fine. As far as city vs country living, I've done both as an adult. Despite some of the drawbacks of being out in the boonies, I would never go back to a city, well maybe a tiny, tiny one like the one near me, but I prefer the privacy and quiet of where I am on a dirt road with only 3 neighbors each with several acres to separate us. Of course I am part hermit so this suits me well! Gramto6 November 6 Share November 6 4,736 steps yesterday. Feels like I didn't do much, I had planned to work in garage, but it was just too cold to do that. So I spent the day sitting with cat in lap, and also doing a lot of cleaning and rearranging in my office. Now that the crystals are slowly moving out, I can start to think about what I am going to do with the room. Still a long way to go but now two large bookcases are empty, one already moved to garage, I have space!!! No specific plans for today. At some point this week I'll make a trip to town to finally close old checking account. I'm finally sure all payments etc have been transferred to new account. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8500060
Gramto6 November 7 Share November 7 5,263 steps yesterday. Yesterday was just about the same as the day before. Just puttering in the house. Again too cold for work in the garage. Today looks to be warmer, so maybe some work in the garage after a quick run to town to close out my old checking account and pick up some blood test strips. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8500990
Gramto6 November 8 Share November 8 6,011 steps yesterday. My errands helped. Some poor old guy hit the gas instead of the brakes outside the PO and caved in a wall by the PO boxes, he fortunately wasn't hurt. But now the boxes are inaccessible so we have to go into the PO proper and pick up our mail. The parking lot is blocked off so we have to park on the street and walk in the main doors. More steps to what was normally just a few... Still having a lazy out of time feeling from the time change but it is getting better finally. 4 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8502001
Gramto6 November 9 Share November 9 4,754 steps yesterday. Most of the things I was doing, organizing crystals and research on the computer involved just sitting so didn't get as much walking time. I am getting more excited about having a whole new room to use as the crystals are going out the door! Nothing exciting on the agenda, laundry and vacuuming and maybe breaking down a stack of Chewy boxes in the garage if it gets warm enough. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8502872
Gramto6 November 10 Share November 10 (edited) 5,250 steps yesterday. As usual doing laundry helped the step count. Still doing thins inside as it is just too cold to be outside for any length of time trying to do anything. Finally all the leaves are down from the cottonwoods. If the weather holds like predicted I might actually be able to rake in earnest. I'd love to get that chore done! It was a nice 31° this morning, as opposed to the the last week with morning temps in the teens and very low 20's. Today's high is supposed to be 48°, so it actually would be nice enough to work outside. Gramto6 November 11 Share November 11 4,802 steps yesterday. I did work some in the garage and did some chores inside too, but spent a lot of time going through crystals to get identification info for everything for today. The crystal lady showed me how on the google app I could take a photo of something and get an ID of it. Never knew that could be done. Man does it save me time searching through reference books! Nothing much else planned for the day. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8504456
Gramto6 November 12 Share November 12 6,238 steps yesterday. The crystal lady was in a "look at everything all over" mode so lots of steps, moving flats, pulling out trays etc. I had been trying to go section by section. She asked what a price would be for the whole inventory, which took me by surprise as she has been very close with her money. I have been greatly discounting and she has been picking only the best, but to take it all she has to do just that, take it all. I have to really think about this and be somewhat fair to myself too in the pricing....lots to think about... The rest of the day just some chores inside and a bit of work in the garage. Still feel kind of lazy, I guess it is the change of seasons/weather. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8505624

Gramto6 November 19 Share November 19 (edited) 10,673 steps yesterday! And so far no aches or pains as a result. I was walking with purpose from 6:30AM until 9:30PM and then just took it easy until bedtime at 11PM. I tried to stick to the old plan of walking during commercials on the TV (if I noticed them) while I was doing things. I will stop in a hot minute if anything starts aching though. Woke to just about 1 inch of snow on the ground. First to stick of the season. So I started the day snow shoveling/sweeping. I was hoping it would be a while yet before it was really sticking, oh well. I hope this isn't a portent of things to come. Cats definitely did not like it!! Gramto6 November 20 Share November 20 11,094 steps yesterday. So far so good, nothing hurts. I seem to have gotten past the aches and pains and lazy habits that were keeping me down. I had become too used to sitting and reading/researching things on the computer and not walking more. I just wonder how long I can keep this up? I am paying close attention to any clues from my body that it is too much. I never thought I'd see these numbers again... All the cleaning and organizing in the office have got me doing some throughout the house. I'm starting with old tax stuff. I'll need boxes for things going to Goodwill so this sounded like a good place to start. I'm working on a banker's box of stuff from 2003 now. Long past due to be tossed. Oh well, you can't please everybody all the time! 😸 I am surprised every day that I am not feeling some achey knees or back, but I am happy about it. Millie cat is not happy with not so much lap time, so I have to give her some time too. More of the same inside jobs for today. I made a quick store run yesterday as dry cat food getting low. Chewy doesn't ship until 11/29. Now that it has gotten colder, the little birds are pretty much gone and the mice and small critters have gone to ground, so the cats are eating more food. Gramto6 November 26 Share November 26 (edited) 11,667 steps yesterday. Still managed a fair amount of steps even with the time out working with the crystal lady. She pretty much said she couldn't afford any more crystals. She had been looking for things she could sell for cheap, but wanted good items. For a while I was OK taking a big hit, but by today we got to the point the very good crystals were coming out and she balked at the prices. Items that I paid from say $29 to over a hundred each piece, she was hoping for a few dollars each and I just couldn't do that with these. She did have the grace to relieve me of the promise to sell exclusively to her which is good, so I'll have no qualms selling elsewhere. I will look for a higher end dealer up in town and see if I can find one that is interested and will appreciate what they are getting. I'll price to sell, but not pennies on the dollar any more. I'm fine with the break, as she really wears me out each time she is here. I have held on to these crystals for years, I'm in no rush that I would literally give them away any more. What I have left is easily $10-$15,000 of inventory, maybe more. No way could she come up with even half of that! Snow this morning just letting up now at noon. I'll do some clearing as needed outside a bit later. The rest of the day just walking and Millie cat lap time. I am surprised every day I can keep it up! Gram I am amazed and happy to see that you have gotten back up to your former numbers. I wish I could do that! I have been crazy busy and under a lot of stress in the past few weeks. It's a long story but it involves the repairs being done on my house after tree damage months ago. The contractor has been driving us insane with delays and now suddenly wanted us to pack up on a moment's notice, put our living/dining area furniture in storage and go into a hotel right after Thanksgiving for WEEKS while they took off the front wall of the house and fixed the roof. Yeah, no. There's more but it would take forever to explain. We told them they had months to figure out how to do this job and get started on it before the Winter and potential snow and ice. We have lost confidence in them completely and told them no way and just to tarp up what they've done and we'll revisit it in the Spring. Meanwhile you bet we're going to consult other builders and our private insurance adjustor. So anyway it was a different story every week with these guys. First they told us we only needed to be in a hotel for a few days in several weeks after a lot more work was done. Then suddenly they said they realized they couldn't do it that way and we would be weeks in a hotel and the wall was coming down right after Thanksgiving so we had to pack up right away. We were imagining all sorts of worst case scenarios. We have had two houses built so we're not stupid about this stuff. We can recognize incompetence. I don't trust them with my house now. They acted like they never even looked at the architect's plans. We were telling them things they should have known. And we were waiting on them to tell us when the right time was to order windows and a front door, which the supervisor only told us to do this week. Meanwhile it takes weeks to get these things in so even though we ordered them right away on a moment's notice they wouldn't have been able to do have them right away anyway. Just ridiculous. And this company was very highly recommended by two neighbors and they have stellar online reviews too! Just goes to show you that you can't trust anything these days! I'm finding that I can't handle extreme stress like this as well as I once did. I have read that Hashimoto's can do that because of some hormone changes in the body. It's a physical reaction. I was worried about my health at one point. I was having trouble sleeping, feeling exhausted and imagining the worst. I feel better now but now I have to travel a lot tomorrow for Thanksgiving in some wet weather so I'm now a little nervous about that because it's going to be a VERY long day. On top of traveling for Thanksgiving my husband is working and driving someone. I'm going with him (I know and like the client) so we can go to our Thanksgiving afterward but it's going to be a very early morning and later evening which sucks. And we're not spring chickens anymore either! Anyway, happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone else here! 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8519983
Gramto6 November 28 Share November 28 1 hour ago, Yeah No said: Anyway, happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone else here! Thanks!! Same to you and everyone else here, from me too!! I am so sorry for all the stresses around your house repairs! What a nightmare it sounds like! I hope you can find another contractor that can do the work that you need/want in a much more timely manner. It is hard to deal with all that when you aren't even feeling at your best. (((HUGS))) I've been there, 7 or 8 years ago a cottonwood dropped a huge limb on the back side of my house resulting in a new roof, deck repairs, and outer walls of two room repaired. Fortunately it was Summer and I didn't have to leave while repairs were done. But it was stressful nonetheless with workers coming in and out all day long for several weeks. I feel your pain!! As far as the steps go, I think I have just gotten stronger almost 2 years after my bad fall and all the residual aches and pains have worked themselves out. Plus I think I had some infection going on in my mouth and having almost all my teeth removed has helped me too. And the hand surgeries...it all left me feeling better to the degree I could even attempt to go for more steps. I still have other issues, but I feel "lighter/better" and the steps are just coming and not causing any new pain. But I still go day by day and pay attention to what my body is telling me but so far so good. Hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving trip!! 4 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8520018
Gramto6 November 28 Share November 28 (edited) 12,790 steps yesterday. A few twinges in right knee last evening but so far this morning it is OK. I might need to back off some today, depends on how the morning goes. Not much on agenda for today, a little house tidying, and fixing my "Thanksgiving Dinner". (I'm going to spatchcock a Cornish game hen it so it will cook better in air fryer. If this works as recipe says, this could be my new go to way to fix the hens in the future!) There will be Facetime with the kids and grands and some phone calls too so it will be a very nice day. The weather looks to have some sun among the clouds which will be welcome too. Yeah No November 29 Share November 29 On 11/28/2024 at 1:15 AM, Gramto6 said: Thanks!! Thank you, even though it was long and half the way in rain, the trip was very therapeutic after all we'd been through. My husband's sister and her family listened to our story and were horrified. My husband said, "They were going to put a piece of plywood up over the front wall - Why don't they just engrave a written invitation for the mice and burglars to come in?" At least I can laugh about it now but wow, the more we think about what might have happened the more we are thinking that we have to consult other contracting companies. As it is now, the foundation got wet in yesterday's rain and whatever framing they had already done and no one has come to put tarp over it yet. Unfortunately today my husband has to drive yet again down to Ft. Lee NJ and back, this time in Black Friday traffic. It sucks but that's how the bills get paid. Hearing your good news is also helping, you have come a long way and not giving up is the main reason. Cheers to you! We have to keep fighting because after a certain age if we don't we end up in an irreversible state. One of our good friends, a man who used to do handiwork for us let himself go this way. He injured his knee and didn't get anything done for it. Then over the pandemic he became lethargic and that didn't help. So now he walks with a cane and has trouble getting in and out of a car. He is only 62 and on Medicaid, so there is no reason he couldn't have had had medical attention for his knee. I know he had other life issues such as his mother in law's dementia and need of care and him being the only person that could handle that situation (she died more than a year ago now) but he still could have been going for help for his knee when that was over. Now he's gained a TON of weight which doesn't help, and he has other medical issues such as COPD and asthma, so this is NOT GOOD. We are worried about him now. We also have a female friend that let a similar situation happen and now is almost an invalid. It's just a scary lesson that we can't stop being active and attending to our issues or it can slide into this kind of situation in no time. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8520650
Gramto6 November 29 Share November 29 (edited) 13,216 steps yesterday. My friend called in the morning and asked if I wanted to go for a walk at the Wildlife Refuge with her and her hubby and I said Yes! Turns out hubby decided to stay behind and watch TV, but we had a nice couple hour walk down by the river. I never realized the paths there were paved and easy to walk or I would have done them much sooner. Now I have another place to walk in good weather! My Cornish game hen in the Air Fryer came out amazing!! I could only cook half at a time but it was the best hen I have ever made. Crispy skin, juicy meat, that is how I will fix them forever more now!! Today I will cook the other half and will have left overs to last a few days!! For any one interested the recipe for the hens, it is so simple: Thaw, Spatchcock (cut out backbone and flatten, I had to cut in 1/2 to fit my air fryer). Rinse and dry off bird, apply olive oil (I used avocado oil) all over and then season however you want. I used rotisserie seasoning, but anything you like works. Heat air fryer to 400° cook bird skin side down 15 minutes, then flip and cook skin side up @ 400° for 8 min. (I only did 6, as when I took temp before flipping it was close to 165° already). It came out browned and crispy skin and juicy meat! Much better than any rotisserie chicken I have ever gotten from the store! Perfect amount for a single person with some left overs, or for two for a dinner! And soooo easy! Gramto6 November 30 Share November 30 12,359 steps yesterday. Still no issues other than a bit of a stiff knee in the morning. A little Aspercreme and getting moving makes it go right away. If it persists I'll back off some and see if the steps are the problem. I'll see how the day goes.... I haven't decided yet if I am going to make a Goodwill run to the new one down in the town south of me. I'd like to get this stuff out of the house and garage too. Plus, I'm on the lookout for an outdoor carpet for the kitty house and more fleecy blankets for their beds too. I may just talk myself into it, especially if the sun were to come out. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8521311
Gramto6 December 1 Share December 1 12,239 steps yesterday. Yesterday I didn't do much other than some housekeeping chores and my walking. Didn't go anywhere and probably won't today either. Tomorrow I take garbage up the road so will probably run my errands all after that. Slept well last night, no sore neck in the morning. Last night was first with the new pillow and it really seems to be helping already. It is very soft but holds head just right! I didn't even have the dry mouth I usually wake up with! This is the pillow, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BX2Q4RC2?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title , @shapeshifter mentioned over in the Health and Wellness thread in Everything Else. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8521721
Gramto6 December 2 Share December 2 11,577 steps yesterday. Millie cat insisted on a several long lap sessions. I've kind of been putting her off so thought I'd give her what she wanted yesterday. Besides I've had a few twinges of aches in right knee so pulling back didn't hurt me any. Still a number that amazes me when I think about where I was a couple weeks ago! Garbage up to the road and a quick PO/grocery run is all for today. Decided to put off going to town (either one) for a few days. I'm kind of enjoying the quiet and not "having" to do anything. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8522644
Gramto6 December 3 Share December 3 13,147 steps yesterday. I had to go to two grocery stores to get the items on my list. The first one is the larger store and I walked every aisle again even though I didn't need anything on each. Still just mild aches in right knee when I first stand up, but passes as soon as I start moving. So all is still good with this pace. Nothing special on the agenda other than laundry today. 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8523707
Gramto6 December 4 Share December 4 11,339 steps yesterday. More Millie cat lap time and more time on the computer researching other sources I might be able to sell my crystals to. Kind of a frustrating occupation. Spent some time pulling out a few Christmas decorations. Of course several need new batteries, naturally a size I don't have! The crystal lady now wants me to come and give classes at her shop where I can sell some of my crystals if I want. Frankly, not interested in that, been there done that, retired years ago. No interest is starting up anything like that again. I haven't replied to her yet but will have to soon. sigh.... 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8524491
Gramto6 December 5 Share December 5 (edited) 12,222 steps yesterday. Pretty much just doiing things inside. My friend gave me an old flannel sheet so I cut it up and made a couple more straw stuffed pillows and blankets for the kitty beds in their house. She's bringing me an old memory foam pad from her bed in a few days that I plan to cut up and cover the platform where they have several old kitty beds that they love. This way the whole platform can be one big bed! The remnant pieces will go into Chewy boxes for individual beds. Little chores, and walking in the house... that's all for today. Gramto6 December 6 Share December 6 12,661 steps yesterday. It's going to be another very cold frosty day so my activities will mostly be indoors. Everything outside is covered with hoar frost and visibility is not very far. I think I'll hit the shredder today and the ever present laundry! 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8526153
Absolom December 6 Share December 6 I'm not sure what I'll try to do today. I tried a dental cleaning yesterday without taking my own pillow and I ache from my knees to the top of my head this morning. I had planned to do laundry and weed the flower beds in the front yard among some other gardening. Oh it could have been the ceramic pitcher that fell on me at 12:30 this morning when I opened a top of the wall cabinet. Forgot about that for a minute. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/111361-thrive-without-janelle-the-accountability-group/page/65/#findComment-8526169
Gramto6 December 6 Share December 6 Oh @Absolom, ouch!! Take it easy today! I'm so sorry you had such a rough day yesterday, not to even mention the vase!
