5,173 steps yesterday.

The trip up to town and a brief shopping there added to steps. My right knee is aching some, might be the getting used to the new shoes and the different angle of my foot in them. Whatever it is, I'm going to take it a bit easy today.

I don't remember if I mentioned this before, but a friend in CA sold me his used iPhone13 that he was going to eBay, when he found out I was looking to upgrade, he offered it to me for $300. My iPhone 7 is going to be obsolete soon and as it is the highest upgrade it will take is ios 15.7. I spent part of the morning up in town at AT&T getting it activated. No more Consumer Cellular live locations in MT!!  I'm really liking it a lot! It is a bit bigger than my 7 size-wise, but the screen is huge by comparison! Today I will watch a bunch of videos on how to use it... that will help with the taking it easy!!

My friend finished the outside trim on the kitty house window yesterday so now it is complete. At some time in the very distant future we are going to put new trim on the inside of the windows, just to pretty it up.  I'm going to have to look for one of those oil heaters for the kitty house for Winter. The insulation is helping alot as it is. It was 40° outside when I fed them this morning and 58° inside their house even with the door ajar! Without any heater!

I am an Android person (Samsung S21 Plus Ultra) but lately I'm not loving my phone, my service or Google Assistant, which continues to get buggier and buggier. I used to love Verizon and had no problems with my phones for years or the software but it's just gotten worse over the years. After spending an hour on the phone with technical support getting nowhere I went to the Verizon store yesterday to see if I could solve one of my problems (the hands free feature won't work with the lock screen on even though I've set it to do so) and they told me it was either a bug or a change in the Google Assistant app that was causing my issue. So I had to take my password off my lock screen so Google Assistant will work. I use it when I'm driving and in the house sometimes. This actually happened once before a few years ago and I had to wait until Google worked out whatever glitch was causing it which took at least a month.

Anyway, my husband is an iPhone person but he has just as many complaints about his iPhone 12 as I do about my Samsung phone.

So far I've had 6,192 steps today (and counting). I'm still dieting and doing my daily walking but my weight stays the same. On top of that my bruised shin has pretty much healed but I still have swelling in the knee that won't go down and my right leg looks bigger than my left now by a little bit. I know it's the edema. I probably now have another blockage under my knee inhibiting my circulation and that's why (I say another because I already have a cyst under that knee from doing a ton of treadmill about 20 years ago). There's a little bulge under my right knee and it's a little sensitive to the touch. It's getting better but very slowly. I don't have pain but I do have discomfort and a strained feeling at times. I'm seeing the doctor this coming Friday about that and to hear the test results from my leg ultrasound. The tech. told me it's not a vascular issue but edema, possibly lymphedema. I'm dreading what they're going to tell me I have to do. I am sick of what I'm going through with this in general and now I have this new thing thanks to a nothing fall. But my luck there won't be any solution and I'm just going to be stuck with this. I know that's pessimistic but it seems like for me the answer is always "no" or there's no cure or solution for anything. And when there is it's in the form of a drug I can't take.

Also, I read that not only can Hashimoto's make it difficult for a person to lose weight but so can lymphedema. Add to that being a post-menopausal woman and short and I'm getting closer to knowing the medical reasons why I have such difficulty losing weight even while doing all the right things.

And yes, being short makes it harder to lose weight too for several reasons.  It sucks.

5,543 steps yesterday.

That was me trying to take it easy!     😸

Mostly just doing chores around the house and making sure to get out of my recliner each hour to walk at least 200 steps. I went out in the early evening trying to spy out where one of the kitties was going off to each evening and found her by my pump house sitting in the last of the sun on the dome of the end of the natural gas line.

On the way back inside, something bit me and I have a couple of angry swellings on my arm today. One the size of a green grape at the base of my left thumb and the other mid arm about a puffy 2" x 1". I slapped a mosquito off my arm as I came in. But this is a pretty severe even for me, response to that. Alternating Arnica and Aloe Vera on them to keep the itching down. Annoying more that anything else, I want to scratch them but fight the urges.

That is great news @Absolom!!

The kitty sounds so cute.  I hate bug bites and they seem to get worse as I get older.  I hope the itching stops soon.

Thanks.  It's so strange to have doctors telling me to eat as much as I can.  I'd become so wired to not gaining.

@Gramto6, sorry to hear about your bug bites. Here in CT mosquitos have been found with encephalitis and West Nile virus so I was putting on bug spray all Summer long.

I wanted to tell you about a feral cat situation in North Haven CT that's been in the news lately. Originally Animal Control was going to trap and euthanize the cats but the townspeople complained and now local government is working with animal shelters to trap and neuter/spay the cats and is trying to find a no-kill solution to the problem by engaging with non-profits who want to help.

I thought you would be interested in that. It looks like as I suspected, there is more assistance from government and other non-government non-profit organizations here in this area for that problem than in yours.

5,822 steps yesterday.

I did another laundry yesterday and more sorting clothes for Goodwill. More summer things for Goodwill instead of storage for next year.

Today I am going to the Grand Opening of a crystal, gem, and mineral shop here in town. I do have ulterior motives in going. I sold crystals/gems/minerals on eBay for years and have tons of inventory in hand. I'm kind of hoping once she gets going, she might be interested in buying some from me. I am going to greatly reduce the prices just to get them out of here. I do love looking at the crystals too and I hope her shop is successful.

I also need to set up the two new litter boxes in the kitty house today. They are starting to use the old ones inside so time to replace.

ETA: Probably true @Yeah No, the difference here I think is that even though there is a huge problem with feral cats, there is a huge amount of open land for them to range on and they don't as often interact in city conditions. Sadly here in MT many have the attitude of "if that stray cat comes around here in the country and causes trouble, I'll get my rifle out and shoot it!". Sad but does happen... The few places that TNR are usually really over worked and they return the cat to the home they picked it up from.  A "cowboy" with a rifle isn't going to notice if the cat is fixed or not. It is still the Wild West out here in many ways.

LOL, I hear you but you would be surprised that West Haven is really not a city even though it's called one. It's a decent suburb of New Haven on Long Island Sound and it is mostly private houses with nice lawns on suburban streets. I used to live a lot closer to that area before I moved to the Hartford area. It is more densely populated than where I live but still not a city by my standards, and I'm a city kid.

I think the cats in the story were probably bothering more people so that's one reason why more is being done about it and it made the news.

You would laugh if you knew my next door neighbor, who has a rifle and has been known to shoot at any "varmint" that comes onto his property in most cases to raid his hen house, LOL. He has a big bear skin rug complete with head and paws/claws on his wall that he shot to protect his chickens.

We live on the edge of a big nature preserve on a small mountain so we are very close to nature here. And yet I'm only 2 miles away from a Whole Foods, LOL.

5,621 steps yesterday,

My errands yesterday helped add to the steps. But this morning for some reason my back is aching and I feel tired. I even slept later than usual. So today I am going to try to take it easy.

The Crystal shop was nice, well stocked but very tiny. It is in an historical building, "The Creamery" which was built in the 1880's by European immigrants who settled in Montana. When they stopped producing milk and cream the historic building became an Antiques Mall. Many little vendors inside so hopefully she will do well with her crystals.  I think I made a good connection with the owner of the  Crystal store, so hopefully I can off load some of my inventory.

My bug bite on my arm is still swollen and red but somewhat better. A friend's suggestion of large doses of VitC seems to be helping. The Witch Hazel is keeping the itching down so it is bearable. Hopefully it will be back to normal in a couple of days.  No idea what bit me...

I rested as much as possible yesterday and my back is better but the cold this morning got to my knees and they are aching now. Sigh... the deep cold of Winter is getting harder and harder on my joints each year. 28° when I went out to feed the kitties this morning. brrrrr!

The mega doses of VitC seem to be really helping. The angry redness is just about gone just a little on the top part of my forearm. And the itching is really down thanks I think to the witch hazel.

My body is telling me not to push it today so I am planning on listening.

I didn't do much yesterday, not much planned for today. But I never know what else will come up.

Had an uninvited visitor to the kitties' house last night. Raccoons I expect. They ate all the food left in the dishes and then tore them apart and dragged some outside. I use aluminum baking pans for their food as they are cheap to replace. Tonight the door is going to be completely closed with only access through the cat door. I wonder if the raccoons will try going through that? I just hope the cats will!

Grocery run today to replace aluminum pans and pick up a few things and tidy some in kitty house is about all I have planned for today. We have high wind warnings for this afternoon and possible rain so may have yard clean up again on the agenda for tomorrow!!

Here's a photo of what the sunrise looked like last night. A nice difference from the fire photos I posted before!

Grocery shopping always adds steps, even if I tell myself I'm just going to get a few things!!

Last night we had high winds, again! Several small to mid sized branches down. I'll be working in the yard some, but besides a laundry, I don't plan anything much else.

Sunrise this morning, note snow on the top of the mountains. The winds kicked up the fire for a while but apparently from what I can see (no smoke) this morning, the snow put it back out.

You know, I've lived here 20 years and I couldn't tell you if off the top of my head if the plates still say that. I have a  vanity plate with a bear on it, donating $$ to Yellowstone Park. I would assume the regular plates do still say that. Though some years ago there was a group trying to change it to: "Montana :The Last Great Place".  I don't think they were successful...shows how much attention I paid to that endeavor!

Yes it does, that guy has been parked in that field for a couple of weeks. I think he is doing some work for the irrigation ditch people. The ditch runs behind my house.

A beautiful Fall day! I didn't get my planned things done but I did get more clothes sorted and season's switched. Today I need to gather the garbage for pick up tomorrow and clean the yard. A couple of the outside cardboard box shelters need replacing so I will do that while the weather is good.

My swelling from the bite is finally gone, thanks to the Liposomal VitC. Today I am going to cut the dose back some and then tomorrow go back to what I was using before.

Lazy day yesterday, I think the change in Season's is settling in and making me a bit lazy. Fireplace going, hot tea, cat on lap...just want to sit a little more than usual. Oh well, it was Sunday, the day of rest!    I'll get back on my work/exercise plan today!

Trying to get back to more walking but I'm not going to push in any way. I just feel better if I can get at least 5,000 steps. A far cry from what I used to be able to do, but I am still OK with whatever it ends up being each day.

We have a bunch of smoke again, this coming from fires in Idaho and some south of me here in MT. The past few days of really windy weather have flared up fires that were just about out. The one very close to me is burning again, way back in the mountain and that smoke is coming here too. Unpleasant, but nothing like the devastation from those Hurricanes!

Pest people are coming today to do last spraying of the year. None too soon, I've seen a few large brown spiders around garage. hmmm, maybe one of those is what bit me?? Also have a new yellow jacket nest being built on far corner of garage eave. Time to get rid of the critters for the year!  I will have to move all the kitty shelters away from the house so they can get right to the base of the house. That will be some exercise for me.  😸

Nothing special, just doing things around the house after a final clean up of the last of the downed small branches. No strong winds in the forecast, thank goodness, so that should be the last of the branch clearing. Next come raking the leaves once they come down...

Still hazy out from the fires, mostly from Idaho. I don't see any visible smoke from the one by me but reports say it is burning on the back side of the mountain now.

Pest guy did a heavy duty spray yesterday. He said given my description of the bite, he suspected some form of hobo or brown recluse spider...yuk! He did say the spider population was down here due to the storms we had over the Summer, something good from them at least.

I've not seen a brown recluse, but I remembered someone at work got bitten, and his hand was very scarred after that.  I have seen and killed a black widow on my porch, when my daughter was young.  I took off my sandal and swatted it.  My mother-in-law had arachnophobia big time, and always asked whomever was around to kill it, if she spotted one.  I don't kill other kinds of spiders, if I can tell what they are.  Mosquitos are the bug I'm afraid of, with their spreading West Nile and other nasty diseases.

It was basically a guess by the pest guy, given my description of the injury, and his experiences with the spiders. I really didn't see anything on my arm but a mosquito, down by my wrist, before the bite flared up. The troublesome bite was upper forearm. Whatever type spider it was, it was a very inflamed bite!

Not much going on right now, sort of in between seasons as far as yard work/clean up goes so not as many steps for now. I think deep down I know that I need to back off some in preparation for what is to come in Winter. Right now I shudder at the thought of shoveling snow again!

I need to touch base with my friend and have her come and take home some of her tools she has left in my garage so I can get my car back in there when the snows come. I have to laugh, she has so many tools from her business that everything you can think of is here now from drills, circular saws, compressors, about a hundred small tools and nuts/bolts/nails etc. As she need a tool I didn't have, she'd bring one over and then leave it for future use. It was fine while construction was going on but the big stuff it done now. I just don't want to make her feel bad about all the stuff still here...

Slow step day as I spent most of it going through all my crystals and things to refresh my memory of what I have here.  This morning the gal with the crystal shop is going to come over and look at what I have. Hopefully she likes a lot! She's on a budget, saving for the big Tucson Show in Feb next year, but I can make some deals she won't see there!! Hope I have things she will want!

Need to do some vacuuming and a laundry this afternoon. Not much else on the agenda.

I tried to show the crystals in an orderly manner to the crystal lady, but she kept asking for specific things and looking into trays and flitting around, so I did a lot of moving around and moving boxes and back and forth in the room. The room is 22' x 14' crammed with shelves and chests and an island in the center with metal racks with trays of crystals. (My last inventory came up with $35,000 my cost. And I'm very willing to let it go for far less at this point!)

At any rate, all the lifting and moving has not done well for my back or knees so I am going to take it easy today!

ACK!  Crystal lady just texted me, wants to come "play" again today...I may have created a monster!

The crystal lady was here from 10am until about 1:30pm. I am grateful she is finding lots of things she wants, but she is very high energy and really drains me. I kept trying to focus on one area at a time so we know what she has already looked at, but she likes to roam around and peek at other things. At least she promised to give me 24 hr notice from now on when she wants to come over.

All the lifting of flats of crystals and packing them for movement has got my back and knees really flared up. I can't keep doing this so often...

All II need to do today is get the garbage up to the road, make a PO and quick grocery run. Then I hope to rest a lot today!

You would think that especially the PO's with no home delivery of mail would be open 24/7 for mail pick up. That is just not right!

I went to the larger grocery store in town to shop, haven't been there in a while so I walked most of the aisles. Wish is was closer to home, it would be great for walking in the Winter! With a stop at the smaller store and PO I collected a good number of steps while out.

The flip side of the steps and all the activity of the last couple of days is an achey back and knees...

There is a very large, nice Albertson's near me where I can go walk when it rains heavily here.  I drove over there to walk in their air conditioning on one of the worst hot days that I was home.  I can always find something I need or want so I don't feel like a freeloader.

I haven't gone to the store specifically to walk, but I just might this year when it is raining and dreary at home, for the change of scenery. Like you, I can always manage to buy something! But when there are feet of snow on the ground and double digit minus ° temps, I 'm sticking with walking inside the house!! 😸

I don't blame you on that one.  Feet of snow is no go for me, too.  Although it has only snowed at my house once in 40 years.  I think it sprinkled snow for 30 minutes at the most and of course it melted rapidly.

You may remember a few months back maybe June I said I'd never reach the 6 or 7000 level much less 10,000 steps in a day?  I'm averaging over 7000 these days and Sunday had over 10,000.  It's been amazing.

I think I am going to do some vacuuming today and then more puttering around... Lazy feeling day already and the sun isn't even up yet!

The mountains around me have a new covering of snow this morning, showers for this morning and then this evening showers with possible snow late night. With an overnight tonight forecast of 26°, I expect there may be snow on the ground here tomorrow morning.

The day was going at a normal pace hanging just at about 4,000 steps by early evening. Then about 9:30PM, I got a call from my friend about doing some small finishing touches on the kitty house. I pace when I talk on the phone and we talked for an hour and a half. We are aiming for Saturday, weather permitting. After the call, I checked my steps and was well over 7,000!! Guess I need to talk on the phone more! 😸

ETA: I was 25° this morning with frozen frost when I went out to feed the kitties! brrrr!

The pump guy is coming today to fix the insulation in my oump house and he is bringing an oil heater for the kitty house. None too soon!  Though it was 45° in their house this morning...cold days will drop that w/put the addition of a heater.

I did a lot of tiding and rearranging in cat's house in prep for putting in the heater. Got a Chewy shipment yesterday so after unloading them, I had some new boxes to replace the older ones that have had a lot of wear. Perfect timing!

The pump house is almost done. Original people had just crammed more and more insulation in the space when cold air was getting in instead of really doing any repair work. My guy uncovered an actual concrete floor  and discovered the area was much larger than either of us thought once cleared out. He put new rocks over concrete and flooring. Then he pumped foam insulation into all the various openings were snakes and mice were getting in. Today new insulation for the walls and an insulation type wall board over that and make the door seal better. I should have no more problems with freezing under most conditions! (Shuddering at the memory of 10 days with no water last Winter...)  Yay fixed!!  This is definitely money well spent!!

Today or tomorrow my friend is going to come over and pick up some of her tools and do some finishing work on the kitty house.

So many leaves down now, I may try to get started with the raking too. So looks to be a busy day again...

Try not to overdo.  A section of leaves a day is plenty.  I love that the pump house is now being done nicely and properly.

All sounds great! I am snake phobic so that made me gasp!  Glad it is coming together!!

6,682 steps yesterday.

Lots of steps outside tiding car/storage side of garage and doing some yard work.

My neck is sore again today, it started last night. Probably from the heavy lifting I did yesterday helping load up all the tools my friend had brought over for construction of Kitty house.  Hope it goes away soon, I'm going to take it easy today just in case. The only lifting today will be garbage bags.

Took it a bit slower to let my neck rest. It seems to be better today. Still going to baby it one more day.

Pump guy was a no show yesterday. Hope he gets here before the rain today as the wall board is stacked outside the pump house...  Can't blame him though it was such a nice day yesterday he probably wanted to spend it with family.

The crystal lady is coming at 8:30 this morning. A bit earlier than I'd really like, think I'm going to tell her 9AM is earliest from now on. At least she asked last night.

Garbage up the road and PO/grocery run is all for the rest o the day

Lots of steps involved in showing crystals to the crystal lady! Then I went to the drugstore for test strips, the PO to mail my ballot, the grocery store and then Ace for heat tape for the pipes under the house by my water filter. So lots of steps...

Today I may try some raking of leaves, depending on how wet they are from the rain, otherwise I will take it easy.

Mostly took it easy. That was the plan, and my cat kept me to it as she was wanting a lot of lap time!! LOL

Today I'm just planning to do some organizing in the house beside refreshing the outside cat beds. Mostly low key activity. My knees have been unhappy with all the steps the last few days. And I listen when they "talk"!! Raking leaves is going to have to wait a few days.

I kept seeing other things I should do outside while I was refreshing the kitty boxes so I ended up working outside more than originally planned. My cottonwoods still have not dropped all their leaves and there is already a huge amount to rake. Maybe this weekend....

Today I drive up to town for my Bone Density test. I may do some shopping, but it just depends on how long the test takes, if I will have enough time. These mid day appointments have a way of spoiling the whole day for anything else!

My last bone density test took 10 minutes or less.  It was a recently refurbished place with all new equipment.  I spent much more time registering and waiting than the actual test.  Still I was there less than half an hour.  I hope you have the same luck.
