Pete Martell May 15, 2020 Share May 15, 2020 Melissa seems to be a difficult voice for the writers to capture, but this one worked for me (and I don't even really know a ton about Animal Crossing). Her perpetually disbelieving, wounded delivery, and Mikey just sort of shrugging his way through. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/108727-s45e18-snl-at-home-3/page/3/#findComment-6129035

Pete Martell May 19, 2020 Share May 19, 2020 Another video (I hope they keep doing this). This one has that fun style they stopped doing a few years ago with a graduation video, and before that, a Catholic mass, etc. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/108727-s45e18-snl-at-home-3/page/3/#findComment-6137170

Excellent job on the special effects. The two Alexes looked pretty real, not the obvious quickie green screen paste they have to do for a one-week skit. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/108727-s45e18-snl-at-home-3/page/3/#findComment-6142527
Jody August 2, 2020 Share August 2, 2020 On 5/10/2020 at 12:02 AM, Galileo908 said: Cold Open: Virtual Graduation! And of course they got Alec Baldwin Trump to speak. Yep, every college is now University of Phoenix but with worse tech support. I'm hoping that this is his last time as Trump. Sure, the election will hopefully still be happening when the show returns, and that'll be FUN. Monologue: Kristen Wiig! Also it's the Mother's Day episode. Deirdre: Martin Short!! And man, Dierdre would definitely make people wait four hours for her to show up on Zoom. And be in Italy during the quarantine. Let Kids Drink: Oh my god this was great. Hilarious, but by far one of the darkest things I've ever seen from this show. Josh Gad and Olaf came out of nowhere. It was nice to see everyone's dogs. Masterclass: Chloe once again knocking it out of the park. Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Britney Spears were spot on, but Melissa as John Mulaney was just a whole other level entirely. SNL would be idiots if they don't give either of them more to do next season. Church: I liked how more people kept showing up to the call. Danny Trejo: Loved this. It's gonna get stuck in my head. Bouncy Waves: Kristen Wiig and the rest of the cast waved wigs around and made that a sketch. Kenan's wig was my favorite. Boyz II Men: Now THIS is a musical guest! WU: Yep, news got super weird this past few weeks. Axl Rose beefed with Steve Mnuchin on twitter, and even that wasn't as weird as the Miss Hitler Beauty Pageant. And it was great to see Tina Fey again. I can't believe the $90,000 was so...disappointing. Che's joke for Colin was way better. And it was great to see Judge Jeannie again. Being able to edit outfit changes definitely helped her out here. She did not fail to disappoint. What's Wrong With This Picture: This was fun, but my Closed Captioning ruined it. Had no idea that there were 14 eggs, or that the woman in the mirror wasn't wearing a necklace. Eleanor's House: This got delightfully weird really quick. Tim and Eric are wondering how one of their sketches made it to SNL. All the people looked like they came out of GTA, especially Pete Davidson. Brandon: Mikey's kid gets his own sketch! This was so great. "Dad, it's Gigi Hadid!" had me rolling. A Lighthouse Keeper's Isolation Tips: So here's a sketch about The Lighthouse. I loved this so much, this is the kind of weird I'm here for. Loved her face at "I have a beard?!" House of Kyles: The sloppy editing of all the Kyles on screen only made this better (especially on the split screen kiss). Of course Kyle has a Jack movie poster in his house. Dreams: I really liked this one. I thought it was only going to be about Cecily and I was expecting this to be her official farewell sketch. Everyone waving to her and fading away really does point to that. Her going to see the Sonic The Hedgehog Musical slayed me. I dream about Popeye's too, Chloe. Also loved seeing Kenan in Tootsie, and Ego with Woody Allen. Goodbyes: An actual goodnight from Kristen Wiig. Seeing that whole cast & crew pic was poignant. This one was less of a gut punch than the last two with the empty stage. Last two At Home episodes: "Where's (Cast member)?" This one: EVERYONE IS HERE. Martin Short! Josh Gad! Danny Trejo! Tina Fey! Boyz II Men! Well, that'll do it for this season. It's been fun. See you all...whenever it comes back. Kristen said September. Galileo, You Said About Boys II Men Now, THIS Is A Musical Guest ! Galileo, You Should Find John Mulaney And David Byrne And Watch That Episode ! That IS MY FAVORITE Musical Guest ! Boys II Men Is Second ! David Byrne Talk Sings His Songs, But He Does Choreography And He Actually Arches His Back And The Dancers Behind Him Also Do This Choreography And They Also Play Various Musical Instruments While They Are Dancing ! ! ! They Have Not Only Just Guitars With The Strap, But They Have Keyboards With A Strap And Bongo Drums And Regular Drums With A Strap ! ALL OF Them Have Such Energy ! David Byrne Was A Member OF Talking Heads ! David Byrne And This Black Woman Who Was One OF These Dancers Was In The Sushi AT The Airport Musical Sketch When They Did A Plane To Nowhere Which Was A Parody OF The Road To Nowhere Which Was A Talking Heads Song ! Take care of yourselves!! Hello EBK. I hope you don't think Saturday Night Live Has Been OR Will Be Cancelled ! I expect that they will come back in the Fall Preferably September Instead OF October ! They are always doing Repeats in the Summer ! I Think They will Either Keep Doing New Episodes Of Being AT Home IF They Can not go back AT 30 Rock OR Else They will have New episodes With Political Sketches AT 30 Rock Like Jimmy Fallon Has Been doing With The Tonight Show ! They don't think There will be an audience, But Maybe IF They are in the Theater, They WILL Have New Episodes ! On 5/10/2020 at 12:27 AM, SoMuchTV said: Thank you! I Thought because of the Hair Do and even her Face that IT Was Bowan Yang ! I knew that wasn't Quite Right, But I thought that was him Any Way ! Melissa Started On America's Got Talent And She Did Barbara Walters Interviewing Various People Like Natalie Portman and Owen Wilson ! On 5/10/2020 at 12:47 AM, Pete Martell said: Cold open - I knew we were probably going to be getting this awful, lazy, cheap Trumpwin at some point. In an ideal world having it at the front of the show means at least he won't appear again. Up to that point I was glad to get to see the whole cast in a graduation type sketch. Monologue That was a very Kristen Wiig monologue, in all meanings of that sentence. She gave it her all. (she's very funny in the soap spoof things Jimmy Fallon has done, if you haven't seen those). I remember there was some fan speculation about Kristen Wiig hosting this season for Wonder Woman II - never thought it would be for a pandemic. Deirdre, AKA pretentious ugly American caricature, My favorite Heidi Gardner character - a true guilty pleasure. She's a strange fit for a zoom episode, but it was nice to see her again. And nice to see Martin Short, of course (I wish he'd played Jackie Rogers Jr.) Let Kids Drink - A bit hacky, in a way the Ebersol kid sketches were at times. I did enjoy a few parts - the Disney inclusion (and Disney lawsuit inclusion), Mikey Day and his featured player son, Pete Davidson and his mother, and Beck Bennett and his ever-shaggier hair. Masterclass - Glad to finally see Melissa Villasenor in one of these, with her priceless John Mulaney. Chloe Fineman was fantastic as Phoebe Waller Bridge - the Britney Spears was fine, but her life is a bit too sad and easy fodder for jokes for me to get into. Zoom Church - Sketches about not being able to use zoom have been done everywhere by this point (including the first At Home), but I liked this one more than the first as it wasn't too long and made good use of the cast and extras. Pete Davidson and Danny Trejo - If you've seen one of these "Pete is a fan of somebody who does a cameo" raps, you've seen them all. Just sort of there for me, although no RBG Gang, at least. Hair and Wiig - It's nice to see Kristen Wiig being in more sketches than the hosts of the other two; this wasn't really for me, but Kristen committed to the whole thing (and the "serious" B&W disclaimers amused me). Music - Fine. SNL used to parody Boys II Men all the time in the early and mid '90s, with songs like "Let Me Suck Your Big Toe," yet they were never on the show. Better later than never. The photos of the various mothers was genuinely touching (and if that was Kate's mother she looked just like her) Update #1 Bog standard Jost and Che installment; not a bad thing. They played the beats well. The racist joke has been done enough times but Jost still makes it seem amusing; ditto for Che's drunken apathy. I'm looking forward to how they will adjust for their final season. Update #2 Tina Fey, as always, has a great deal of screen presence, even as the material of the struggling mom in the pandemic has been done many times. A little long, but still the best thing she's done on the show since 2015 or so. Update #3 Pirro has moved into "beyond parody" territory as of late, which was somewhat reflected in this appearance. Cecily Strong did give it her all, and I enjoyed the end with her managing to dunk Colin through the power of...space and time and sheer craziness. What's In This Picture? - Not a sketch I needed to see again, as the last one was, for me, pretty bad, but the shorter running time and sharper writing gave me more positive feelings. Melissa was in especially good form Aidy's House - The type of slow-burning visual horror and deadness that other shows tend to cover; it's always interesting to see the form pop up here. Aidy played everything just right. The visuals, especially Kyle being tasered and electrocuted, were appropriately creepy Son Pranks - Mikey Day's son continues to vault into being a cast member next season. This was probably my favorite of the night - a perfect use of Mikey's slow burn and physicality (and he should wear glasses more often) and it felt all too believable. Lighthouse - A good use of Kate McKinnon's zany charms and ability to sell what she's given when it's in this type of format Classy, brief tribute to Little Richard - pleasantly surprised as he was never on SNL. The lasting impact of Little Richard Simmons. Little Richard never let anyone tell him what to do or who to be, a complex and unbelievably talented, irreplaceable figure. Kylepalooza - Porn for Kyle Mooney fans (not literally - unless you really enjoyed the thigh or bare-chested shots, anyway). Peak Kyle. I always enjoy Kyle's non-musical pieces on here a little more. Perfect use of his talents in the absurd quarantine format. I would say the Kyle Mooney showcases for much of the season mean he's leaving, but I said that last season with the Kyle and Leslie piece so clearly I shouldn't be in the prediction game. Dreams - An exquisite piece. It's been ages since I remember a finale giving a chance to reflect, say goodbye. Combining the sights of New York with absurdity, melancholy, letting us speculate on who is leaving, but also on where we are. Gary Weis and Tom Schiller would be proud. Goodnights - It almost felt like trolling (I'm sure it wasn't) that Kristen Wiig, one of the more polarizing cast members, gets a credits sequence to roll around in bed, a first and likely a last. It did crack me up, whether intended or not. This started out with the usual finale blahs, but, while I still have complaints (where was Alex Moffat?), everything from Update on clicked; some terrific material toward the end. A fitting sendoff for a season that often veered from rolling your eyes to catching your breath Cut song featuring Chris Redd, Ego Nwodim and Kenan Thompson. Honestly this is really good - everyone (especially Chris) is in great form, capping up a strong season for all three. Wish it had been left in the episode. https://t.co/EC7ULyL8d8?amp=1 I Don't Agree that Let Kids Drink was Hacky ! I thought that was A Good Idea with The Parents are at home and they need A Drink and I even Enjoyed the Dogs Drinking ! I Think Let Kids Drink Is NOTHING Like Dick Ebersol Shows OF Saturday Night Live ! That Other Sketch Is What's Wrong With This Picture ! Also, Michael Che Has A TV Show On I Think HBO And Lorne Will Produce It ! Michael Che Will Write And Star in Sketches That Can Be What Ever He Wants To Talk About Whether IT Is Race Relations OR Relationships ! Therefore, Michael Che Will NOT Be On Saturday Night Live Next Season ! I counted the eggs right away because they just looked like too many, and I thought that the necklace was the thing that was wrong in the second picture. Anyway, I love this sketch. Kenan is great, of course, and Ego, Aidy, and Melissa were hilarious. Again, I got the impression that Kate was ad-libbing the entire thing, like with the cat bit she did before. I really enjoyed this. I only saw Pete sitting with Guiliani and Babe Ruth. It really was! I thought the voice wasn't quite there, but the mannerisms and facial expressions were spot-on. Melissa's John Mulaney was so much freaking fun! The mannerisms, the inflections, the humor itself. Wow. I loved this, and it made me want to watch a Mulaney standup. I like Baldwin's Trump because it's so degrading to the original. But I agree that the writing was particularly good. His advice to the graduates was funny yet something you could imagine Trump would actually say. I mean, it's advice he really does use. I didn't really like the Zoom sketch with Martin Short. It had some funny bits, but it was nothing special. I did appreciate how badly Heidi's lipstick was applied. Maybe that was just to make the character's lips look over-plumped. I enjoyed Pete's rap again. This is his forte. I don't know if he writes his raps, but they're clever and funny. I don't know why, but I loved Bouncy Waves. It was so ridiculous, such silly fun. Boys II Men was a great musical guest. Beautiful song, too. Loved seeing the photos of moms. Loved WU too. I don't always. Bats On A Stick made me LOL. I'm still laughing. And Cecily's Jeanine Pirro is always welcome. What is it she says at the end? Wabba wabba? Her coconut and drink falling on Colin was great. Oh, and Tiny Fey was perfect as always. I didn't really like Eleanor's House because the figures were so creepy. I know that was the point, but those kinds of animated figures give me nightmares. Mikey Day and his son are a great comedy team. Kyle's sketch was so... Kyle. The bad editing and "jumping thru the window" bits were hilarious. Loved the dream sequence. Sweet and funny. One of the things I like about these At Home shows is that we see how great under-utilized cast members are. Ego and Chloe need to be used more during the regular shows. I'm particularly impressed by Ego. She does wonderful characters. We rarely see that during normal shows. I loved that prom sketch that was cut. So so funny. I thought Melissa did A Great Impression OF John Mulaney, but I Think John's Monologue that He did when He was Host should make you want to see his Stand up ! Every Thing Was Great In His Monologue Whether It was Jesus doing Magic tricks or The Army Shall Not Live In Your House OR He Is There To Promote The Month OF March ! ! ! I Enjoyed His Story OF The Little Girl That Wanted To Meet Lin Manuel And That Was Her First Choice ! That IS MY Favorite Monologue I Think Ever On Saturday Night Live ! That Sketch With Martin Short Was Not Really about Martin Short so IT did not Have To Be Special ! IT was about People Traveling During The Pandemic and They Were Supposed to be Annoying People ! I liked that segment, and laughed hard when the camera pulled back to show Mikey (was it Mikey?) alone on a Carnival cruise ship. Nightmare! It was clever, funny and sad all at once. ETA: It was Beck on the Carnival ship, not Mikey. Thank you @Pete Martell and @ItCouldBeWorse. Or he was bleary from cold medicine. Brandon was hilarious. So many thumb tacks. Michael Che's Grand Mother DIED Because OF The Corona Virus ! I Thought Colin Looked Sad Also ! So just keep that in mind when he says stuff like that. But who knows. You probably know In Fact, I think I got this from you that Michael Che Will Have His Own Show I think on HBO ! Lorne Will Produce His Show ! Michael Che WILL Produce And Star in sketches about what ever Subjects He Wants like Race Relations OR Relationships ! Here's to the cast for doing a good job with that and really with a lot of stuff during these three at-home eps. That Was Kind OF What I Was Thinking ! I Thought Since People were in the Streets and They Showed Thirty Rock That Cecily Thought Things would get back to Normal And Then Cecily Did Go To The Movies ! Aside from the Eddie Murphy and John Mulaney eps, these have been the best of the season. They could have done a dozen more, given their unaired at home segments vs the live shows. The First Time I saw Martin Short, He Played An Ugly Child On SCTV And I Couldn't Stand Him. I STILL Don't Like Jimmy Glick OR What Ever That Character's Name Is !
