S01.E06: Have a Nice Day!

Recommended Posts

I'm confused--did Jenn tell Kat she kind of had a thing with Justin? I thought the only incident between them was the aborted one in the car and when she saw Kat she immediately put her clothes back on and left. If she's in a relationship with Justin, why isn't she blaming him as well?

In the first episode Jenn said something about how Justin should come to his senses and get with her, but it came off like a joke to me. Dunno why Kat would have any idea that Jenn was seriously interested in Justin. These people are all bonkers, but I’m going to finish watching anyhow.

I don't think Kat thought Jenn's crush was more than an attraction.  She didn't seem at all guilty about her initial encounter with him or their new relationship.

It would be one thing if Kat was having a manic episode and just didn't see consequences.  But we were told that Kat has always been good about staying on her meds and was definitely consistently on them right up to sleeping with Justin again.  I just can't imagine that Kat would be so nonchalant about it if she really thought it mattered to Jenn.

I agree. I think it was a case of each person not really seeing the full picture. Kat thought Justin was just another "crush" for Jenn, like one would crush on an actor or a rock star while Jenn, who has always had a "second best" insecurity around Kat felt like Kat was taking one more thing Jenn wanted from her.

I think both women were just in a really bad emotional place at the moment and the fight happened. I don't think it was really about Justin at all. If the writing had been stronger I think this could have been a much deeper and more powerful storyline.

This makes me kind of wish the show had been about Jenn, the perpetual second fiddle, always in the shadow of her best friend. When her best friend finally step aside (after the fall) Jenn thinks it is her moment, only to have BFFs little sister come and steal the spotlight. That's a story.

What exactly Kat had earlier taken from Jenn? Kat had aleays won competitions because she had been a better skater.

In the flashback we were shown that Jenn, while getting a silver medal, got an admiring family around her, while Kat's mom was nowhere to be seen, so Jenn took pity towards Kat and she gave her her own flowers. Perhaps it was then she decided to be Jenn's best friend, help and support her, do all what what Carol didn't do.

In return, Jenn evidently expected Kat to be loyal to her. But Jenn didn't date Justin. She had told Kat about wanting sex with Justin, not liking him. Kat didn't even know about their interrupted sex in the car. Speaking of it, Jenn had promised Justin repeat, but he didn't come which was a clear sign that he wasn't interested in her. After she had learned that he had been with Kat, it was towards him she should have been angry - and then gradually realize that he didn't like here enough and nothing could alter that.

Even in the beginning Jenn had heard from Kat how Justin had been staring at her an that she hadn't liked it. But when Jenn helped to convince Kat to be Justin's pair, didn't the thought really enter her head that when they were skating together, Justin's charm would influence on Kat sooner or later? It was only a question whether their realationship would be casual or more. Seeing them sitting hand in hand should have told Jenn it might have been the latter. And if so, should Kat have given up love because Jenn also liked Justin?

Most of all, was Justin as a parcel whose ownership could be made up between Jenn and Kat, not a man who had right to chose with whom he wanted to be?

Taking was the wrong choice of word. It's not that Kat actively went after what Jenn wanted, it's that she got what Jenn wanted. It's that Jenn was always in Kat's shadow, not because of anything either of them did maliciously but because Kat was always just better. Jenn's not perfect so that gets to her. It's not Kat's fault. It's not Jenn's fault, it's just being human.

It hurts to always be second choice, always be second best, always be "the friend". Jenn was hurt, not because Kat was a bad friend or evil or anything, but just because live sometimes sucks and you have to sit and watch someone else get everything you want.

Justin is a manwhore who was going to screw Jenn in the car, not some poor tormented soul who was a pawn in two women's power struggle. Jenn had a legit reason to think he might actually be interested in her.

Jenn seems to have forgotten that Kat couldn't have competed with her since her fall. During two years Jenn could have gotten to the nationals, but she hadn't succeeded. Instead, she must now compete with Serena who is sixteen. That means there must be dozens of better skaters than Jenn in US alone, not to speak of the world.

Jenn has never told why exactly she wants to skate and win.  On the basis of what is shown, her motivation is rather to please her family that her own passion.

(Of course Kat's motivation is also doubtful: she has to skate as there is nothing else in life for her, but she doesn't like it. That makes her more afraid of losing that gives her a urge to win.)

Justin had never shown any interest in Jenn before she kissed him after they were both drunk. After they were interrupted in the car, Justin seemed accept that it was over. Then Jenn made a second initiative by askind him to drink to which Justin answered that he would ask Gabe and Kat come along. But Justin didn't come because "something" had occured. Now Jenn knows that "something" was Kat. Purely the sequence of events shows that Justin was interested in Jenn only "for want of a better", so why would she ever want to such man?

Although Justin had sex with others, he was interested in Kat from the beginning. It became serious when he invited her to the pond and was ready to be honest and open with her.

True but the skating timeline on this show makes zero sense. Supposedly Kat was an amazing technical and artistic skater at 19 but she never passed her senior test. If she was really that good she should have already been to the olympics. You just have to go along with the show on those details.
