They most likely couldn't get a direct flight from Indonesia to Philly International. I don't understand why Leida's "wealthy" family couldn't spring for a hotel for them in Manhattan. I know for a fact that there are hotels in Midtown for less than $140 per night.

Based on the fact that Hazel and her parents are living in abject poverty, I don't believe Hazel's racist sister in Japan is sending money home to help her family. Funny how she wants Hazel to marry a rich Japanese when she most likely didn't.
