  1. Was this where we were talking about tornadoes?  Coincidentally, there was one not too far from me on Sunday evening -- in the mountains.  It started as an EF1, crossed a river, and touched back down as an EF0.  It was only on the ground about three minutes, and no one was hurt -- mostly structural and tree damage. The road it crossed is the road I take on my commute home from work, and I had to alter my route slightly this afternoon.

I decided to watch a couple of Andy Griffith episodes that were mentioned, and I was surprised that Andy and Opie and Barney all said "ain't" quite a bit.  I hadn't remembered this at all.

In the episode where Elly the lady druggist is introduced, she gives Opie an ice cream cone on the condition that he promises not to say "ain't" anymore.  Opie tells his Pa that, and adds, "So I ain't gonna say 'ain't' no more."

  3. Almost instaget FJ for me tonight.  And I got quite a few of the many TS, including 2-factor, Milhous, David Lee Roth, lob, frigate bird, Chief Bromden, Chief Joseph, and Mesa/Ames.  I got Arno, but had no idea what the other half of that anagram pair was.

I don't think I'd like Van Halen with either Sam Kinison or Eddie Vedder.

  4. I did not get FJ.  But I got quite a few of the so many TS, including 206 bones, House of Seven Gables, The Blob, trophy wife, Jimmy Stewart, The Dardanelles, Volstead Act, and Uther Pendragon.

It made me very sad that Jimmy Stewart was a TS.

Whatever one might think of the bible (and I think little of it), the King James' version has a lot of beautiful language in it.

I made sure that the King James version of both the Lord's Prayer and the 23rd Psalm were used at my parents' memorial services because I like the language.

it was the woman who had donated her cells

Not exactly -- more like she had her cells taken from her without her consent or knowledge.  If you haven't read "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot, I highly recommend it.

  7. Hooray for Victoria!  Of the three finalists, I was rooting for her the most.

That FJ in the second game seemed a bit easy for a Jeopardy Masters tournament.

  8. I love the scary ham story!  And now I want to see the movie.

But alas, I did not get FJ tonight.

I did get several TS, including Empire, thistle, The Magic Flute, Project Hail Mary, wherefore art thou Romeo?, Bobby Boucher, Percival Everett, and why has thou forsaken me?

All of you folks in areas where watches/warnings are in effect, I hope you'll be spared any dangerous weather. I'm sure I've already posted my experience with a very unexpected tornado in Raleigh in 1988. It hit at midnight, after I'd watched the 11 PM news during which nothing was mentioned about bad weather. I was very fortunate that my bldg didn't collapse. For several years, I'd panic whenever I heard the wind. My solution for staying as calm as possible during storms was/is to be dressed, complete with sneakers, and load my purse with eyeglasses, any meds I needed, and nowadays, my phone & charger.

I was in Raleigh then, too!  I lived not too far from NCSU in a part of town that was spared the worst of the storm.  Still terrifying, though.

  10. Archive game for me tonight, but FJ was an instaget, despite, like @Katy M and @ams1001 never having seen the movie.

I also got the TS of Mauna Kea, Apple, Daisy Jones and the Six, basic, and La Leche League.

But I did like Grant's honeymoon story.

I did record the show, so maybe I'll watch this part.

I feel mean but I'm glad Sam didn't win; the way she sort of swallowed her words was getting on my nerves.

But maybe I won't watch the whole show.

My understanding is that if you live where the terrain is not so flat, you're somewhat protected, because the irregular terrain disrupts the circular motion of the wind necessary to form a tornado. I

100% not true.  We in the mountains might not get big tornadoes, but we do get up to F3 for sure -- there was one in 2011 that was an F3.  There was a really bad (in terms of deaths) F2 in 1929 deeper in the mountains than I am now.  Most of the ones we've had near me have been F0 or F1, though.  One of those hit about two miles from my house, and my dog warned me.  She looked out the window and I could see her eyes go wide as she backed away quickly and went to the basement.  I looked out the window, and followed her down the stairs.

I have never at any point in my life heard the title “Demon Copperhead.”  I totally thought Amy made that up as a weird joke til Ken said it was right.

It's a wonderfully written book based on David Copperfield, but set in modern-day rural southwestern Virginia/ east Tennessee, and incorporates the opiod epidemic that is rampant in that part of the world.  The author, Barbara Kingsolver, is from Kentucky and currently lives in southwestern Virginia, captured the voice of the region perfectly, imo.  It is depressing (as is David Copperfield), but I highly recommend it.

  13. I did get FJ, but it was at the last second.  Partly because I was navigating to sweepstakes.jeopardy.com to enter to win a trip to Iceland.

I only got the TS of Hawaii, bass, and 123123.

  14. We have a Red Robin, and I've eaten there once or twice.  I like the steak fries, but I also don't like so much stuff on my cheeseburger.  As I recall, their menu is huge, but it was really hard to find just an ordinary cheeseburger on it.

I've eaten at Olive Garden a bit more, and it's fine.  It'll do, but it's not my favorite.

I do like Red Lobster, though, and I'll be sad if the one in my town closes.  I love the cheddar biscuits, and they have a stuffed flounder I enjoy.  I've had some really good salmon there, too.  I suspect, though, that if I lived closer to a coast, I might not like it quite as much.  My options for seafood where I live are pretty much limited to Red Lobster or Long John Silver's.

Didn’t Juan, Vinnie and one of the female couple speak Spanish?Ricky and Cesar were good at the physical challenges (baseball, anyone?), good at the puzzles, good At the “entertainment” challenges, and good at navigating.  I was happy for their win.

Yes.  Juan is from Colombia, and, according to his interview, still has relatives there.
