  1. ...Harlots Heist. Then almost topped by a madhouse escape. I laughed so hard at those two ladies losing their shit over a woman who was just standing there singing! I like that they're still using Charlotte's almost preternatural power to convince others that she wants them/wants to be with them. Isaac Pincher never stood a chance. Speaking of Isaac, as far and I'm concerned, the dude is a psychopath. And I thought that even before he burned the house down; the way he came at Fanny and targeted her child said it all. (I loved that it was such a contrast to Charles, who immediately called her "Miss Kitty". Charles is an enormous fuckup but in the end he was raised by and with women and I think he at least has some respect for them.) I was little confused about the assertion about Emily having seen a murder coverup before -- she wasn't there after they killed Charlotte's old keeper. But I guess she's been around long enough to have seen plenty of things. I hope Sofia comes back ruefully regretting her marriage. That servant gave me the creeps. Not to mention she's hurt her mother by leaving her -- does she expect Lady Fitz to just take her and her husband in and pay for them both? It's not like he still has the footman's job. As a ward it's entirely possible Sofia has no fortune other than what her mother would have chosen to give her. In any case, her justifying her actions by absolutely refusing to believe her mother did anything different needs remedying. Clearly it never occurred to Sofia that her own conception wasn't spoken of because it was too painful for her mother to divulge. I think Lucy was lying about the exact amount of money paid for her virginity. I think it may have been more.
  2. As soon as Isaac Pincher leaves, Nancy starts castigating herself, saying that Will would kill her for this. Charlotte responds by saying that Will is in New York or Scarborough, "plying his fists". I'm guessing he took Jacob with him. As for Lucy -- she doesn't have much of a choice here. She sunk all her money into that house and she can't get it back. She's reached her breaking point as a harlot and can't go back to doing it herself. The Greek Street House didn't need two bawds, and with her refusing to do sex work she would have been a superfluity there anyway. So she's chosen to feel positive about the Molly House. She'll make money and she won't have to do any sex work. Her presence will help to obscure the house's true nature (as her new partner hinted), because what's wrong with a fashionable young courtesan investing in a clothing business? If anything she'll make it seem like it's a front for coming to see her, not coming for men.
  3. Episode is up and watched!!! Well first of all, I miss Will and Margaret, and I'd love to know what happened to Miss Pettifer, Sukey and Hannah, and most definitely Amelia and Violet, but the cast has gotten so big I'm willing to wait a little while on more news about them. I feel like Lydia is still exactly where she deserved, but so is Charles. I hope Cherry ends up with Charlotte, she's such a crafty woman who was wasted on Charles. Lady Fitz is getting better than she deserves from Charlotte after letting the Spartans run loose, but I feel for her with Sophia. I can't imagine how hard it would be to refute your child's romantic ideals by admitting they themselves were a product of rape, much less incestual rape. I was surprised at how happy I was for Emily finding a place for herself and getting educated. I don't think she's truly malicious, but I also don't know that she's the type to run a business well enough to make it compete. I'm glad she left the pimp guys, anyway. The pimp guys...I've been keeping back from spoilers, but I'm tentatively interested in seeing a narrative of men trying to break into a female-dominated field instead of the reverse. Not that I hope they win though. I hope Nancy gets her hands on the firestarter and brings Lucy along to help. Speaking of, I'm glad to see that Lucy's character has followed a through-line from the beginning; that even though she can be taught to be an excellent harlot, she just plain doesn't like the work. I hope she excels in her new business and finds what she's really good at and enjoys doing.
  4. Man, that was some sniper-caliber character assassination on Dean. Good thing I didn't get too invested in him. I was surprised at how bad I felt about Jules though (and her cat!). We're renewed through season 2, and I am tentatively intrigued by what might be coming to Guiding Hope and its new partner. Felix can't blame every problem on Murphy now; he and Jess took the money. I like Nia's mix of motherliness and evil. They mentioned Chloe's grandmother (period episode) so I assume that's where she's headed, but if they want to ret-con that next season, I think it would actually make a lot of sense for Murphy's parents to be emergency foster parents. I mean, they have experience with their own adopted child with blindness.
  5. Is it weird that I replayed several times to check what color Dean's shoe laces were? I *think* they might be different from The Mysterious Guy. Or it could just be different lighting on the same laces.
  6. Wait..is that... MARGARET! Damn right too good for the noose!
  7. I don't know a lot about service animals, but should Pretzel be reacting to commands other than Murphy's? He's not a pet, he's literally her eyes, and he can't be going off against her wishes. One thing I do remember reading about (a long time ago, so I may be completely off) is Seeing Eye dogs being trained not to bark except in particular situations. I think the only time we've seen Pretzel speak is when Murphy is yelling for help. Also, if even I know not to touch a service dog without express permission from its owner, those guys at the bar had no business petting Pretzel.
  8. Well this episode made me do a 180 on Felix; he was pretty awesome! Also when Vanessa started so aggressively hashtagging instead of just taking the photo to post later, I was like, "get out Jess, get out now". Aside from the fact that she was being annoying as shit, some of those tags really did make it sound like she was in the relationship partly for the bragging rights about how woke she is.
  9. I've just done a series re-watch, and in the pilot, Murphy became the organization's receptionist when their old one quit. The pilot also has a scene where Felix tells Chloe that a chair is "here" and she complains about it, prompting Murphy to say he does stuff like that all the time to her. Makes Felix seem like a much bigger asshole in retrospect. Or at least, he's not motivated by wanting to help blind people so much as wanting to prove himself in his career. Also in the pilot -- Murphy's parents talk about how they started Guiding Hope to help Murphy "get her life back on track", which makes me wonder if she was actually on a track at some point. I'd like to know if she tried college or any other career. IME homeschoolers don't tend to leave home after finishing school with absolutely no plan. We either stick around at home doing nothing (me) or we choose a course and try to plow through it (also me). Murphy is a lot of things but she's also clearly intelligent. I really want to know what made her essentially give up on doing much of anything other than living in the moment.
  10. TRAILERS!!!!! Whole Series (With a Dash of Season 3 at the End): SEASON 3 TEASER!!!
  11. Considering how hard she screwed over Charlotte - and by extension, took away the safety of every girl in London by helping free her brother - I would think Lady Fitz would be a good source of guilt-fueled support from the upper class. I don't see her abandoning Charlotte just because she got what she wanted.
  12. The season's over, time to pick Emmy Candidates! For me the clear front runner is I Bob Your Pardon. I loved tons of episodes this seasons but I really think that the Emmy episodes are best when the whole family are together in the storyline, and this season they almost always split the episodes into at least two plots. I worry they might submit Bed, Bob and Beyond. It was a fun experimental episode, but I think it lacked the charm that the real-world setting has. I guess Just One of the Boys 4 Now For Now is also a strong contender if only for the crazy great guest stars, too.
  13. I loved that Arnold wasn't all talk. He was a teeny little badass!
  14. I literally gasped with pride at Louise riding her big-girl bike. And while I usually don't like Tina in competition mode, Jimmy Jr. deserves to have his ego deflated. I love that he's an even weirder runner than Tina. It's nice that they're filling out Gene's friends now, since for so long it was really only the girls who had friend circles. Courtney's annoying but can be sweet, and while I didn't like Alex in his first appearance, I love Thomas Middleditch. Gene and Alex make such a sweet little team. I also thought it was great that they chose Large Tommy from an existing background character instead of a new design.
  15. I read an article somewhere saying that Didi just liked the name Gypsy, and Gypsy's father chose her second name as a tribute to Guns N' Roses. Gypsy Rose Lee's real name was in fact Louise Hovick, IIRC,
  16. The Crown's Facebook Page just announced Emma Corrin for Lady Diana Spencer in Season 4:
  17. YES AMY, THANK YOU! I still say they have got to make it public that one of the original discoverers of Super-Assymetry is a female scientist who's being nudged out of the spotlight and having her credit stolen. The internet would explode.
  18. I'm pretty sure Esther is entirely new -- Bosco's mom is Lillian, the piano teacher (Miss Mirkins) and her sister are Matilda and Sheila. I can think of half a dozen more women (the Squirrel Artist, Meryl with the pearls, etc) though. I wouldn't be surprised if Esther was a background character in the nursing home or Edith's quilting circle. This show really loves little old ladies.
  19. "Go or clean!" was my mother's favorite ultimatum of my childhood. Worked every time.
  20. There was at least one scene with Amy's harp after she and Sheldon started living together, she came into the apartment dragging it (inside a case) saying that she liked playing the harp but was considering elevator repair lessons instead.
  21. Man I haven't yelled at a show like this since Gossip Girl. Glassman talking about living life to the fullest: "HELP YOUR CHILD, YOU DICK!" (Of course later we found out that he arranged that job interview, but...no. Shaun was being illegally victimized. Help him take a stand. GET HIM A LAWYER.) Andrews being the only person who seemed seriously on to Han's bias: "Andrews? Really? Of all people? You know what, fuck it, if he saves the day and gets rid of this ridiculous storyline, whatever." I loved Shaun's speech about being forced to move on and not being allowed to feel how he felt. I think that's a valuable thing for everyone to know -- it's better to feel your feelings than try to mow over them. Just ignoring them and chugging on isn't a sign of strength, it's a sign of fear of dealing with tough emotions. Claire is wonderful. As is the fact that her "Shaun-ning" involved the blinds being the same way, and using a step stool to be taller. I'm not sure what I cheered louder at -- Shaun faking Lea out or seeing that Shaun's taste is so much better, with him asking out Carly.
  22. Combine this with Sheldon being a twin and I am 90% certain that Amy will be pregnant with twins at some point. I have a cousin who was the middle single child between two sets of twins, who married a twin, and had twins herself. Multiple births can run in families like that. While I think the "food money" line was simply to set up the joke, I have a different perspective on Bernadette controlling the finances. Traditionally in Ashkenazi Jewish homes (I mean going back to the Old Country), the husband brings home the money and gives it to the wife, since she is in charge of the home and is expected to know how to budget. The husband and wife then get allowances based on the family budget. I'm not saying that this is what's happening on TBBT, but I can see why Howard (not to mention a lot of the writers) would find it perfectly natural to have Bernadette controlling the family finances. (All this being said, this is not what my parents chose to do. My father's wallet needs a crowbar to open and Mama finally gave him an ultimatum that she gets to spend a certain amount of money a month without him having to know specifically on what. She spent at least a decade convincing him that you have to spend *some* money on one's home or we'd be living with three plates and two pieces of furniture. Papa gave in when he realized that letting Mama have discretion on household spending made his daily life a lot more pleasant.)
  23. I thought the episode was delightful! Bernie and Penny had an interesting little storyline, Johnny was fantastically funny as Leonard realizing what Beverly had done (although I may be watching wrong because I don't think I was supposed to find "the experiment's not finished" sweet but I kind of did), and I LOVE cocky Amy. Mayim throwing those glances left and right got a hearty laugh out of me each time.
  24. That was Denise, his ex-wife. She actually worked at that restaurant (her boyfriend owned it).
  25. Whenever Han talks about Shaun's "problems", I replace his word with "ovaries" automatically. Really hammers home the fucked-up. The more I think about Glassman though, the madder I am at him this episode. Responding to Shaun's distress over his situation with "assert yourself" is ABSURD. The second he heard that Shaun had been forcibly transferred his phone should have been out of his pocket and calling the meanest lawyer that ever sued the hospital when he himself ran it. This is not a time for proving yourself, it's a time for exercising your goddam legal rights.
