... I don't know about Edo playing Katt Williams. Seemed to me she didn't quite have his unique voice down. The Na'vi was there though. ...

I did like that sketch, but no, she didn't nail the voice.

Really Sarah Sherman. Standing there and waiting for applause and then bitching to the audience when you don't get enough of it.

I can't decide if that was an ad-lib or part of the bit; either way, kinda tacky.

There were a lot of "this guy is hot" sketches for a guy who isn't that attractive. Here's hoping next week is better.

This. I thought this was 'meh' overall, with a few highlights.

Alaska Air: Nobody died, so it's okay to make fun of that airline disaster! And yes, I really liked this one.

They got me with "Proud to say that's our second worst flight!"

Oh, there was definitely a "who has the best rack" poll at some point.

  3. I had read this a while ago and meant to bring it up here, as an example of Black actresses experiences with getting proper hairstylists:

From 'It's Possible: An Oral History of 1997's "Cinderella"':

    Quote

Craig Zadan: The one thing we didn’t know would be such a major issue was black hair. We hadn’t hired any black hair dressers. So we had pushback, especially from Natalie Desselle — she was the one who threw up her hands in exasperation because she didn’t want the hairdressers that we had.

Neil Meron: We were like, "Why is she crying? Over her hairdresser?"

Craig Zadan: And we said, "Debra help!"

Debra Martin Chase: We had black hair stylists for Brandy and Whitney. But we didn’t have, well, black hairdresser money. But God knows I understood Natalie’s complaint, so we went and found one.

  4. I think they'll do the "cat-and-mouse" with the team trying to find Sir for a while; but when they catch him (mid-season?) then he'll start consulting from prison.

My understanding is that for most scripted series, cast members' contracts run for six seasons, with an option for a seventh. After that, the cast will want astronomically high salaries to come back.

To be fair, I doubt it's "astronomical"; but people do want raises. Like most other jobs.

Deadline had an article with speculation about TGD specifically: 'Seven-Year Cancellation Itch: Why ‘Good Doctor’, ‘Station 19’ & Other Broadcast Series Are Ending After 7 Seasons'

  6. Not really news, but Variety points out that Superman and Batman (and a few other DC characters) will enter public domain in a decade (or so); and there's a bit of speculation about what that might look like.

I feel like not much will change; there are already a ton fan creations, parodies, and proxies based on those characters now. What will be different is that there will probably be a few who will have the budget and cajones to actually try and make a profit off them directly.

    EMERGING TECHNOLOGY AWARD

    “Blue Beetle”; Machine Learning Cloth

Interesting! I'm going to try and look up info on some of this tech.

  8. Yeah, I'll start with the ending; the silent scene with Gabi confessing to the team didn't work for me because we really need to know exactly what she told them, since she's been lying this whole time.

Sir being the one who -supposedly- gave the tip to M&A about Desheka was just a guess, right? There's no way they can know that for sure. Besides the fact that it's a HUGE stretch that Sir just happened to run into (and recognize) the girl that Gabi's been searching for for months, and then went out of his way to get that photo to M&A at huge risk to himself, while no one and no camera spotted him - except the one that he had the time and expertise to erase. Doesn't Zeke have eyes everywhere?

And then the case itself was convoluted just so there could be multiple red herrings. So Desheka was being abused by her stepmother, but was kidnapped by her grandmother, because a social worker was being paid off to hide evidence by ... somebody... because.... and they lost me there. And everyone around all these people were clueless about each other's dealings. Do I have some of that right? If the girl was just stashed in Grandma's closet this whole time, that would be one thing, but they said she'd been traveling with(?) Grandma as well, now that would be a lot harder to hide.

So I did like getting a tiny bit more backstory for Zeke -- but that was also confusing. Or at least raises more questions. So his uncle kidnapped him, but his parents don't know that?? Does anyone know that? So his uncle was never caught/proscecuted?? I have many questions!

I also liked seeing how Sir's obsession with Gabi started. But it was kinda weird to see M-PG without the beard!

And I'm not worried about Lacey, despite the cliffhanger; I am curious about which team member is going to turn Gabi in, because somebody has to, right?

  9. So WB put a bunch of their stuff on Tubi, so I'm finally able to continue my re-watch.

Decided to start with Season 2; it might take me a while to get to the frog-eating, but I'm looking forward to it... kinda - LOL!

I knew they recast Jimmy, but I'd forgotten that Cat Grant was also dropped after Season 1. Looking at it from today's perspective, I wish they'd had a better gender balance in the cast.

And after watching shows like The Flash and Supergirl, it's nice to see an superhero actually do their day job.

I don't understand the reason for the fake friends tiny subplot. It added nothing to the overall plot. If there's this huge group who's into a book series. Why spend time photoshopping on social media?

You're right; but I think it was in there to emphasize the victim being "eccentric" and make her an unreliable narrator.

I probably dislike football more than anyone else on earth (including Janel Parrish!), but this was AWESOME. Even if it didn't have Tyler Hynes in it, I would have laughed. Good job, KC!

It works as a rom-com parody whether or not you know any of these people. Good job, marketing team!
