  1. Very interesting! I like the fact that it can be transmitted to older women; it makes the thing even bigger. I'm no surprised the first reaction was fear, but now that the cat is out of the bag, I'm afraid things will get more extreme for a while. Since we don't know how powerful they really are, it's difficult to guess if the girls would be able to fight against the police or the army. Now, the show isn't perfect( that convent was weird as fuck and some things don't feel natural, for example), but it could be way worse and I really love the premise. I'm in.
  2. I didn't like it as much as the first episode. Too much teen angst, which is something I don't enjoy anymore. I was also a bit grossed out by the "Carpatian" plot. Was it supposed to be Romania? I think they were talking in Romanian, (I can be wrong) but omg, it was like some cheesy old film or a collection of clichés about Eastern Europe. Hope the next episode feels a bit smarter because it's got a lot of potential.
  3. Someone told me about this story a while ago, never thought I would come across the serie so soon! I loved it and I can't wait to see how it develops. I hope it's not a question of 'see, girls can be as bad as boys' because yes, they can be, but I'm mostly interested in seeing the big changes. Can you imagine what would happen in places like Afghanistan or Ciudad Juárez? Right now, the power they have doesn't seem big enough to lead to a full matriarchy with men as second-class citizens and tbh, it's not what I want to see here, but I'm intrigued by the possibilities of a different world. I wonder if the show will go there.
  4. Wow, I loved this episode! At first I didn't understand why no one was trying to stop Joel and Ellie, but I guess that they weren't actually in the place where those people lived... The men took Ellie to the place where they "process the meat." I doubt anyone lives nearby. Either Joel found the meat storage by accident or the man he tortured knew that the evil guy wouldn't take her straight to the residential area
  5. I was surprised when no one asked Sam and Henry if they had been bitten when they were under the car. I guess the writers wanted a big (and tragic) reveal. Poor kid. And wtf was that monster? A particularly huge guy covered in fungus or a new kind of infected? And do we know how the infected are called? It can't be just "infected". Fungies? Wereshrooms? I don't know if I've missed a slang term for them.
  6. I loved it and I certainly see a point to their story: it's a reminder to Joel, who was probably getting too hardened again after Tess's death. If we hadn't seen them together through the last fifteen or so years, the letter wouldn't have the same effect on us and we wouldn't understand why it has such effect on Joel. Regarding Ellie, while I agree that behaviour looks a bit off sometimes, I believe that her background has been so different that she's simply too used to death. There's a book about a Holocaust survivor who was about fifteen when he was sent to the camps and at some point he started to see everything that was happening as normal. You can get used to horror and Ellie hasn't known any other kind of existence.
  7. I know very little about this game -almost nothing-, but I liked the show. The actors are solid, the infected are gross, and while the story isn't exactly new ground, I enjoyed it. I guess the Mormont girl is immune or something like that. I'm in.
  8. There's something's almost comical in the way Charles tries to use every opportunity to get his mother retired. It's interesting that Dodi seems to have the same relationship with his father that Charles has with his mother. I didn't know anything about him until this season, but I can't tell I'm impressed (although Chariots of Fire is a great movie). The whole scene in the restaurant was painful to watch. I'm surprised they put Charles in business class while the members of the government travelled in first class. It wasn't a personal trip, right? The Government wanted someone from the BRF there.
  9. Yes, but according to the show, she was telling everyone, including John Major.
  10. Poor William, can't imagine how uncomfortable he was about the whole situation. I wonder if Diana really realized that the BRF weren't working against her. Charles's behaviour was insensitive, but I doubt the others despised her as much as she believed. I know she was friends with Sarah Ferguson, but what about Andrew and Edward? She was closer in age to them. Also, the show is portraying her as totally isolated, but didn't she have lots of friends like Elton John and Versace? Loved Elizabeth, William and the QM dealing with the new TV. The QM seems to be a huge soap opera fan!!
  11. Yeah, I think the Bolsheviks would have never agreed to let them go. And let's not forget that the Tsar didn't give a fuck about its people. Even suggesting that their deaths were the BRF's fault is a shitty thing for the show to do. Not sure I buy the marital problems between Elizabeth and Philip at this point. To me, it feels only like something the show wants to do every season to spice things up. And while I didn't know anything about Penny until I watched this episode, the things I've been reading about her make me think that there was nothing inappropriate between them. She seems to have been very close to the whole family. I might be mistaken, of course, but it's the feeling I got from the whole situation.
  12. He did it. Not very well, but he did it! The videos are on YouTube. I'm old enough to remember this incident and while at the time I thought it was hilarious, I'm appalled by the fact that a private conversation could be published just like that, especially one that doesn't involve anything criminal. And while I understand how hurtful it was for Diana, in the end it only proved that the true love story had always been Charles and Camilla. Also, Philip is the one to talk! The only reason he got away with his infidelities is because everyone rushed to cover his arse.
  13. Uncle Nazi played by Alex Jennings is always an utter delight, although he wasn't his usual bitchy in this episode. Mou Mou was an interesting character. I think that his eagerness to impress the Queen played against him. I'm not British nor upper class, but I have the feeling that indifference works better in these situations.
  14. I loved Philip in this episode. He was very nice to his godson's wife and I think he honestly tried to help Diana. Personally I never bought the narrative of her as a 100% victim and if it's true that she helped Norton with the book, either she was already looking for revenge or she was unbelievably naive, meaning that book would have never solved anything. I wonder what was going on with that bird Philip kept seeing.
  15. Here we go! This first episode isn't doing Charles any favour, but I find Dominic West amazing as him. The actress who plays Diana is doing a great job too, but I think she's easier to play. OTOH, the others are still Dolores Umbridge, the High Sparrow and the junkie from Trainspotting (sorry, Johnny Lee Miller, but to me you'll always be the junkie from Trainspotting).
  16. And how was she allowed in? They're checking their IDs. And as far as we know, she's still a Gilead citizen.
  17. Hahaha, what a mess. I know Wives don't usually have the best grasp on reality, but Naomi might be the most egregious example. She went from being a total bitch to Janine to acting all friendly. Lady, make up your mind. In second place we have Rose, who apparently believes she can get a divorce. Or perhaps she thinks she'll become a widow soon? Then we have Nick, who knew that McKenzie was fed up with June, but chose to believe that the Commander behind the attacks was Lawrence just because. And did he confront Lawrence in private? No, of course not. He went and punched him in front of all the other Commanders. Well played, Nick. Also, we're supposed to believe that the Canadians feel such hostility against American refugees that when Luke attacks/kills the guy who is trying to kill his wife, they would arrest Luke. And who is creating such hostility anyway? Gilead supporters? Canadian nationalists? Wtf is happening and why do the writers think that it doesn't matter? And finally, we have two extremely important assets in the fight against Gilead -June and Serena, for different reasons- and instead of taking them to a safe place in a private plane, they're put in a train where Serena, in all justice, should be recognized and lynched. This dumb show, I swear.
  18. I'm glad Serena was able to run away. The situation with the Wheelers was bizarre and although I'm no expert in Canadian law, I'm pretty sure that their actions were illegal. To me, this thing between Naomi and Lawrence makes zero sense from his pov. She's officially barren, which means they would be assigned a Handmaid. Lawrence wouldn't want that, and I doubt he could just pretend with Naomi there. Also, he had her husband killed, which is all kinds of twisted. I mean, I doubt she loved him, but still. I agree that everything seems to indicate that he'll kick the bucket in the finale, which is sad because right now I find him more interesting than June, Luke, Nick, Tuello and the ghost of Moira. I wonder what's going on with Rose. One of the Wives seemed to imply that there was something wrong with her genetics.
  19. I liked it, but I can't stop feeling that now things are only happening just because. I mean, why, why would the Wheelers get Noah's custody? Perhaps Gilead can ask for him, since his parents are from Gilead, but why would Canada give him to the Wheelers? Has Serena told anyone what's the deal with them? Has June?? To me, this part of the story is absolutely bonkers. I really enjoyed the conversation between Serena and June, although I must say that Serena's situation is due only to Serena's bad choices and June had little to do with it. Lawrence was great. I think he's mistaken about the chances of success of New Bethlehem (or he would be, if this were the real world), but I loved all his scenes. June and Luke as a couple don't work for me at all. Post-Gilead June has changed too much. Perhaps things will be different if they get Hannah back, but without her, June isn't going to let Gilead go, and Luke simply can't understand.
  20. I think it was stupid to send Luke. Rhaenys' was a better choice, given how much the Baratheons seemed to like her. Otoh, lord Baratheon is an oath-breaker. I hope lord Stark is the opposite. Northerners don't seem to care as much about women leading as Southerners do, judging by lady Mormont. Aemond, I was starting to like you, but I hate you again. Btw, are they trying to say that it was Drogon the one who chose to burn King's Landing?
  21. I love the irony of Canada being the one that takes the baby away from Serena, and not Gilead. Although I don't think it will be for long. However, Serena is far from redeemed and the writers should remember that she's only shown a bit of mercy when it benefited her; she doesn't give a fuck about anyone else's suffering.
  22. That poor girl has probably had visions of her mother doing the feet thing with Larys. I wouldn't want Alicent to touch me either.
  23. I don't know what to think about Rhaenys' move. When I watched the episode, I thought that she was saying that she isn't going to be one of Alicent's pieces, that's all. (Btw, do they even have a boardgame like chess in Westeros? Because otherwise, the metaphor is so weird! ) Anyway, I'm not sure yet about Rhaenys' allegiance right now. I really liked Aemond in this episode. He gave me different vibes... More human, maybe? He clearly loves his sister and he he won me over when he said that he reads History and Philosophy books. That Lannister guy is starting to grow on me too. Ser Larys, ugh! I agree that this wasn't the first time. And be careful, Alicent, because if Criston finds out, he might become apoplectic. I can picturing him yelling something like: "I thought you were different! But you're just like the others!" He should be made Lord of the Incels. Aegon is going to be an awful king, but I don't think he'll last.
  24. Oh, I know that. As I said, she's a believer and she still doesn't see she's a monster working for a terrible system, but I think that it was a tiny step in the right direction. She could have brushed it off, like Putnam expected other Commanders to do, or she could have blamed Esther. She's still a horrible person, though, no doubt about that. She looked thrilled at the idea of Esther getting a hysterectomy!!! (And being sent to a Jezabel, I assume).
  25. Oooh, I liked this episode! It was a bit slow at first and I could have done without the scenes with June and Luke in jail, but I loved everything else. First, I'm so happy to see Putnam go. I guess the story doesn't need him anymore, now that we have two new baddies, Mr. Wheeler and Hannah's "dad" (Mackenzie?). Honestly, I can't believe the guy didn't learn to keep his prick inside his trousers after losing an arm because of it! And good for aunt Lydia. She said she was going to take better care of the Handmaids and she did. She's a true believer and I think that's why Lawrence didn't show her his cards when she went to talk to him. She'll never compromise and he needs to compromise sometimes. Now, if Putnam had supported Lawrence's plan, perhaps L. would have ignored the accusation because in his head, New Bethlehem is the better good, but since Putnam was against it, the rape was the perfect excuse to get rid of him. And poor Esther. It's easier to understand now why she tried to attack Janine. Kudos to the actress, because she was terrific in her scene in the hospital. And Serena! Not exactly a surprise, but a welcome twist. I mean, by now she was fully aware of how fucked her situation was, so no way was she going to blow her only chance to become free and keep the baby. Besides, perhaps this time she had finally started to realize that June had a point. She doesn't trust June, but she wanted her alive, even if it's only to good look in front of the Canadians and the US government. Now hopefully Serena and June will tell the Canadians about Wheeler's operation. Since he's doing it he in No Man's Land, there's probably nothing they can do from a legal pov, but at least they'll know what kind of creepy snake he is, and if he's planning to overthrow the Canadian government and turn it into Gilead 2.0, that's treason and he could be sent to jail.
