Season 14 was rough. At least we get a Jeanie cameo that season. (Is that the episode you mean?) I don’t think outside that episode that I could ever watch most of S14 again. Who knew Coburn would be the character who came out of that season looking the best?

Yes it was definitely rough for sure. Like you I can't even watch season 14 either and yes other than Jeanie returning(which was weird in itself for me as Kerry wasn't there for her when she asked) there's nothing really special or amazing about that season - at all for me.

  3. More Spoilers For season 4!

    https://tvline.com/2021/09/17/greys-anatomy-season-18-spoilers-meredith-hayes/?fbclid=IwAR0KDXOT--I6ykbAN2X-eoTuU68oSIsGGj9UXKVxwwwienVpaifoK3sE928

I’m excited to hear The Conners‘ Dan and Louise get married! Do you have any other spoilers? –O.B.

“We’re tackling a lot of really kind of tricky areas that we haven’t gone into before, and [exploring how] relationships are altered because of the change in what’s going to be going on with Dan and Louise, and Darlene and Ben,” exec producer Bruce Helford told TVLine during our in-depth Fall Preview Q&A. “Romance is in the air, and that affects Jackie, that affects Harris…. There are a lot of new beginnings for people and embarking on new paths in their lives.”

    Spoiler

The live (!) Season 4 premiere picks up “about two weeks” after Ben rejected Darlene’s marriage proposal, showrunner Bruce Helford tells TVLine — and they “still haven’t discussed what Ben wants [moving forward].” Darlene remains “proactive,” as Helford puts it, “and that can go a lot of different ways.” One potential obstacle for the on-again/off-again couple: the return of Brian Austin Green, who, during his Dancing With the Stars journey, will reprise his role as Wellman floor worker Jeff. But regardless of what happens between Darlene and Ben, “You can pretty much guarantee that Ben and Darlene are [always going to be] part of each other’s lives now,” adds fellow EP Dave Caplan. “They have such a history now that they can’t just untangle, in the way that you might ordinarily do if you don’t stay together.” Plus, “Ben is so beloved by everybody else in the family that that’s kind of what makes it interesting going forward.”

BONUS SPOILER!: The veteran sitcom is moving full speed ahead with the recently engaged Dan and Louise. “We’ve got the wedding coming up, so there are some things going on that involve that,” Helford previews. “There is a lot of romance involved in this [season opener], and there are big changes coming in these people’s lives. This is the beginning of that.”

I do see what you’re saying. But I think ultimately every show has storylines fans wish they could’ve seen, couples who should’ve gotten together and never do (although I see what you mean; I wish Claudia and Banfield had come earlier), or relationships that seemed to just happen mostly offscreen and by the time they were married everyone was like “Huh?” (For example, Glee’s series finale was a five-year time jump where Rachel had gotten married and we never even saw her relationship with her husband develop that much.)

Two shows I liked (Glee and Superstore) ended after six seasons and that was perfect.

I think if us fans got everything they wanted in canon, fanfiction wouldn’t exist LOL. I have seen some opinions that Mark’s death should’ve been the series finale. But then people could say “But then we would’ve never seen Abby go back to med school!” or “We would have never seen Carter become the face of the show.” There will always be something or someone that will be missing; otherwise shows would never end haha.

Yes I see your points as well and I agree with them. Yes I'm so glad fanfiction exists for that exact reason!! It's why I write to get what I want because I didn't get it in canon.

Random thought I had yesterday now that I’m done with the series: Do any of you think the show went on too long? Once I looked back, I formed the opinion that as much as I’ll always love ER, it went about 3-4 seasons beyond its expiration date.

S12 was when things really went downhill for me with Clemente’s arrival and the chimp storyline, although the helicopter of doom in S10 didn’t help anything either. By S13 the show was dark and miserable and had shifted into all about Abby (and Abby and Luka and their baby and their ill-advised wedding) and the writing and stories seemed to get worse.

Honestly now I think it would’ve been fine had Carter’s departure at the end of S11 been the series finale. “The Show Must Go On” is a great title for a finale. The slideshow of photos of the OGs would have been great to end on as we looked back. There were plenty of new characters in place by that point (Morris, Pratt, Neela) to set the show up going forward, and maybe if the locker tag wall had been introduced earlier, it would’ve been a great moment to see Carter put his name up there with Greene and Benton’s tags. (I still can’t believe Neela and Abby got that scene instead.) I guess the only thing that could’ve been done better was Carter’s “you set the tone” speech to Morris, who was still immature and completely oblivious to what Carter said.

Then, Abby (and by extension Abby and Luka), if she was really that popular with the fans and everyone was just dying to see her pregnancy, her attempts at motherhood and her relapse, could’ve had her own spin-off (like Private Practice) that was all about her and Luka instead of taking away from ER as a whole. It still is such a bummer that so many other interesting characters and potential storylines got shoved aside while she got every big plot and dramatic moment. Yes, Maura is fawned over and I have no problem with her personally, but there were so many other talented actors/actresses on the show who could also handle significant storylines or characters who had possibly complex lives that wouldn’t make the show such a drag.

S12-S15 makes up what I’ll be skipping most of when I come back to the series. I realize if it had ended in S11 we may not have seen the OGs make actual cameos, but in a way, I do think Carter leaving could have been a great end to the series as well.

    Agree, disagree?

I agree I think it did go on a bit too long, but on the other hand we wouldn't have gotten Archie & Claudia or Banfield (don't hate me I loved her by the end) yes seasons 1-8 were the best with great episodes every once and a while in seasons 9-13, 14 was the worst for me and 15 was definitely the rebound.,, it felt like the old ER for me.

Just finished the series finale, and it was kind of sentimental to me.

It was nice to see Kerry, Susan and Elizabeth all getting along and happy to see each other. Plus Elizabeth and Rachel seemingly reconciling from those hurtful years earlier. And I think I’m going to pretend Peter and Elizabeth got back together in a post-series universe. They definitely seemed like they didn’t want to be apart.

It was also nice to see an older Reese but I would’ve loved if Elizabeth had gone to the opening and brought Ella by too.

One thing I forgot to mention: I’m glad that ER is not currently in talks to be or has never been rebooted in the days where we are rebooting/remaking everything. I think of course for nostalgia’s sake it would be exciting on the surface and I’d watch if this happened. But ultimately, the series really dropped in quality the last 3-4 seasons it was on, and with that in mind, I think it’s best that it’s left alone. I’m not attached to any of the later cast that much to want to see them again, and who knows if anyone from the earlier years would come back.  Feel free to disagree with me on that, though.

So glad you've watched the series finale now! I agree with you with all of this of your post. Will you be doing any Peter & Elizabeth fanfics? Just curious as that's another couple that doesn't get too much love that I love (as you know)

I haven’t rewatched this show for the same reason I haven’t rewatched Dexter or for that matter Wentworth.  I am not a fan of rewatching shows that's kill off main characters on a regular basis.   But I did for some reason that I am not completely sure of decide to rewatch the finale and by god I still cried my eyes out pretty much throughout.   I have no idea why.  Even though I havent watched the show in years….freaking waterworks.

    Maybe I’m just that easy.

I totally agree with you. I've only watched it once all the way through and that was a couple of years ago, but I do have the DVD's stil haven't watched it all the way through don't think I will. I could barely get through season 7 and by the end it was so weird for me to watch especially the last episode which I will never watch again as I'm a team Gemma fan so much (Yeah I know she's hated, but I can't help it I love her as a character, there I said it) and what happened between her & Nero broke my heart (again I know, but I ship them so much, I felt so bad for Nero and Gemma of course)

You can leave kudos and comment as a guest, yes. I’ll take the non-ER/general fic conversation to PM so we don’t derail the thread. :)

Yeah that's what I thought - Thanks and I totally get that...I got your message.

It will happen; I promise! I’m finishing a grad school class this coming week and I will have a month off (the school I’m in runs in quarters) where I’m hoping to spend some time with my fics. I actually get to originate their ship tag on AO3 so I’m pretty excited for that. Have a few ideas already for chapters...planning a oneshot/ficlet compilation. :) Thank you for supporting me!

That's great!! So glad you'll be able to write more on Archie Claudia. I'm trying to write more on my fic as well for another fandom, but the problem is the couple I ship/love isn't that popular in the fandom so it's difficult for me to get motivated sometimes and I only have a few readers that actually read the story. I'm not on A03 anymore, but I'll still be able to read the story and leave kudos I think.

You're welcome for the support. I'm happy to find another person who writes fanfiction and who ships Archie & Claudia together.

Watched three of the last four episodes tonight (15-19 to 15-21) so just going to throw out a bunch of random thoughts here instead of going episode by episode:

The change in the opener/“previously on ER” music that started in 15-19 was an interesting choice. But nothing tops the original opener. I know it’s weird that a theme means that much but the newer openers don’t draw me in like the original.

For me no cast of ER will have chemistry like the OG crew of Carol, Doug, Carter and Peter in Old Times. And while I never shipper Carol and Doug before, rewatching their reunion (thanks YouTube!) a couple weeks back and seeing that they ended up happy and stable together has me changing my mind. And I love that in these last few episodes with the OGs that they go first in the credits.

I liked the different cuts between the transplants in Old Times.

I wasn’t really a fan of the cut between Neela in the airport and earlier in the day in 15-20. Overdone on the show by that point.

I wish that the locker name tag wall had come earlier in the series. Even though I’m not an Abby fan I could kind of see the point of having her put her tag on the wall because MT was in the main cast for so long. But Neela? Really? Like I wish the wall had come along in S8 or S11. There would have been way more symbolism in having Mark or Carter or Benton put their tag up there.

Speaking of Abby that cameo was so weird. She really puts no effort into watching children. Reminds me of my boss in the morning meeting when he says “My kids are really loud today!” Maybe try parenting them and quieting them down so they’re not yelling for a whole meeting? I’m pretty sure I can dog sit better than Abby can babysit.

Awwww 15-21 was so...no pun intended...feel good? I was welling up in a happy way. I loved the heart camp, and I love watching Morris and Claudia be precious together.

God Brenner is the worst. He has a few decent moments with kids and then he turns into a total douchebag. You’d swear Neela had died or something.

Neela reads directions on a printed map and communicates with the ER via AIM. There’s your “damn I’m old” observations of this stretch of episodes, although by the 2000s, my family and I were printing Mapquest directions. I did use AIM for a long time though.

I guess the Banfields adopted that baby? I do hope so. I love those two almost as much as Morris and Claudia, albeit I never warmed to Cate as a member of the staff. But I think it’s nice she and her husband have such a strong marriage otherwise and I hope they got the family they want.

I’m finishing it off next weekend guys! Planning to buy the retrospective on Prime Video, watch that and then watch the finale, which I haven’t seen since it aired. It’s going to be a sad/melancholy evening.

Finally, I will come back and delete this part of my post if it’s not allowed (although I checked the forum rules and I think what I’m doing is fine), but I started writing fanfic a few months ago after not doing it (badly) since I was a teenager around S7 or S8 or so. Not sure if anyone here cares about fanfic but I love showing my stuff off so here’s a few things:

I Promise You I Will Learn from My Mistakes  (Coburn-centered, work in progress. TW for lengthy alcoholism discussion.)

What to Expect When You’re Not Expecting (Canon divergent one shot about Neela and Gallant; may make this into a longfic but I’m not sure if I’ll ever have the brain power to push it further)

No title, but here’s an Archie/Claudia ficlet Fluffy. From my Tumblr; less than 300 words. I answered a prompt in the ER fandom discord. I had nothing on my clipboard at the time (you had to take the last thing on your clipboard and that was your prompt), so I credited the person I took the prompt from. Yes there will be more fluffy one shots for my late season OTP. I’m going all in on the happy stuff with these two lovebirds.

Love your post! so glad someone else loves Claudia & Archie I love(d) them too. So glad you write a fanfic on them I really wish they had more on them. I'd love a multi chaptered fic centered on them as they are adorable!! I also love the Banfield's too (I have to admit it took me a bit to get used to Cate as well and that says something).. and personally it was awesome move to have Angela and her husband work together and their characters be husband & wife on screen as well.

FYI: I just read your Archie & Claudia fic loved it...please do more!!

Soooo...I watched the repeat of Jackie and Elvin?Edward taking the horse medicine and completely stoned and have to say this:  Way to go, Dan. You have two underage children {Mark and Mary} in the house with Jackie and boyfriend rolling around out of their minds and the only thing you are concerned about is Elvin barfing on  your bath mat? Way to go Dan.

Jackie's boyfriend's name is Neville and he's Louise's brother whose has a thing for Jackie for years.

I forgot to mention that one of the things I like about S15 so far is seeing actual functioning, happy couples (well, except Sam and Gates, and no one cares about them anyway). I love the Banfields (I’m sure it helps that Russ is played by Angela Bassett’s real husband) as well as Archie and his new girlfriend Claudia. After watching Luka and Abby misery for almost all of S14, Dubenko and Wexler’s soulless hookup and seeing the blandness of Neela and Ray (and Neela hooking up with Brenner), I love when Archie/Claudia and Cate/Russell are on screen. I wish the relationships and characters had been developed a season or two earlier.

I totally agree with you those two couples are also my favorites from season 15.

Best thing I've read all day! I REALLY like this show!

There was a show several years ago, filmed in Vancouver I think, called Motive. It let you know right off the bat who the victim was, and who was the killer. Sounds like a done deal, right? What's to watch!? Yet, they somehow made it into a very appealing show, with great casting and decent plots... there was always a twist in the connection. I was sad when it ended - but at least it had a few seasons. They didn't even give Rebel a chance it seems. Bossturds. Pardon my Canuck.

Yes ABC canceled Rebel after 5 episodes and they didn't even let it finish, but on the other hand they did let us finish out the season without pulling the remaining episodes so I have to give them a little credit, but just barely. I'll never forgive them for this. We are doing our best with this right now and I have faith it will coming back even though some others don't, but it's not in my nature to just give up on something like this and Katey is fighting with us so that's even better and she's encouraged us to fight so that's makes me want to fight more and makes me draw off of her faith for the show.
