  5. I agree. There were some really good local cops. Offhand, I'm thinking about the woman in Aftermath, the detective in Fear and Loathing, and the chief and the female detective in LDSK to name a few. I'd rather have the writers be respectful of local law enforcement than write the stereotypical bumbling cop who needs the assistance of someone with higher intelligence to solve the case.
  6. Yeah, I know what you mean, but it wasn't always awful. In the early seasons it wasn't just one line per team member and the lines weren't delivered so mechanically. As usual, I blame the writers...but I have to admit that the actors aren't really helping with their delivery. They're probably just as bored as the viewers with this formula.

  8. Thanks for your efforts, Willowy. I thought your questions were great and well thought out, but Simon really sidestepped many of them. I really didn't think he'd say anything negative about anyone involved with the show, even if they're already gone. I suspect that he thinks Mandy is as big a prick as I do for all the crap he's said since he left the show, but he did give a very diplomatic answer. Still, he did take the time to respond to you. That's something. My impression is that he is out of there and doesn't really care what happens now. When you leave a job there's a grieving process because you're leaving a kind of family, but once you move on.... It was kind of him to say the current writers are doing a better job, but I respectfully disagree. That comment about him writing for the show and not the characters was silly. I wish the current writers would spend more time thinking about the characters. Oh, well...thanks for sharing.
  9. I think with Blake, someone (not sure if it was JT or Erica or whoever) wanted to make the character completely different from any other previous female agent. They succeeded, but not in a good way. I liked that she was a calming presence, but she often came off as bland and boring. And I do blame all of that on the writers. We don't know what they're going to do with JLH's character, but unless they give us some insight into her character and qualifications early one, they'll run the risk of backlash against her. With Prentiss we learned right away that her mother was a diplomat and she'd been in the agency for 10 years. Then in the second episode, her first full episode, we learned that she was fluent in Arabic and had lived in several middle eastern countries. By her 3rd episode we learned that she resented her mother's way of doing business. "I hate politics." She was by no means more prevalent in these episodes than any other character, but we still learned about her past, her capabilities on the job and something about her character and personality as well. We didn't get that with Blake. However, with the current writers, I don't feel we get good characterization of any of the team anymore.

  12. Yes, Jane Lynch is wonderful as Reid's mom. But you're right about Jason Alexander. He will never escape being George Costanza. And since that role ensured that he'd never have to work again, that's not such a bad thing. He was awful as Professor Rothschild, but I still loved Masterpiece.
  13. I'm no fan of JLH, but I don't dislike her either. I wish CBS would put more money into hiring good writers, but I'm adopting a wait and see attitude on this development. However, because Erica is still in charge I am not optimistic. I'm just biding my time until we see what they do with this character. AlecNewbary, I totally agree with what you said about CM and name actors. I prefer the unknown or lesser known actors. I don't want to watch CM and think about the previous roles the unsub has played, and it's kind of hard for me not to.

  16. I can't see why they hired Janeanne Garofalo. Although outspoken in real life, her character was very bland. None of them seemed to bond together in any way. As for them being a rogue team, the cases weren't anything special. They were nothing that couldn't have been handled by the BAU or even the local PD, if I recall. The series was just a big miss all around.
