I'm a former sports writer (or a recovering one, depending on your perspective.) It's no wonder you and I get along so well on the boards. I ran that one too and was surprised the contestants seemed to be avoiding it. I assume they're all news readers since you have to be up on current events to do well on the show. I did not keep track of my gets. I'm not being cocky, there are just too many in these tournaments, other than the Tournament of Champions, during which I spend most of time looking up answers I've never heard of! I was impressed that Alex pronounced Prescott correctly. They're picky about that up there, although not nearly as picky as Louisville, KY, residents are about pronunciation of their beautiful city. I used to travel there on business quite a bit, and I started to pronounce it with two syllables, which seemed to keep me out of trouble. Anyway, I thought it was a better game than Monday, but the starting at the bottom was making me a little stabby. I don't know if the other two took their cue from Thatcher, which is an unusual first name by the way, or if they would normally play that way too. We'll see a lot of it in this tournament, so I may as well get over it. Of the three, I liked Dhruv the best, but I thought it was funny he didn't get to ring in on the Brown clue.

One of them selected a president from the 19th century, but she had a runaway so probably wasn't paying that much attention to the clue. I wasn't impressed either. However, Jeopardy has gotten easier for me with age, and I don't know how many of those I'd have known in my late teens to early 20s. I don't think I'm going to write down my gets throughout this tournament because I assume I'll have a lot, but since I was in my office when I watched this episode, I did write them down today. Mine were Plymouth Rock, flatbread, RBI, Rolaids, blown save, Atlanta Braves (boo!!!!), Jerusalem, St Paul, Pulsar (I remember the Nissan Pulsar fondly; my brother had one and I thought it was cool), aplomb, alb, Army Corps of Engineers, esprit de corps, and LBJ in an instaget. Teddy Roosevelt wasn't a terrible guess, but McKinley was assassinated shortly after being elected a second time. At least Sheldon picked someone who took over for someone else.

S43.E17: Chadwick Boseman / Cardi B
teebax replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
I really liked this episode. The firefighters sketch was its only miss for me. Aidy B was awesome! I always love black jeopardy. Weekend Update seemed short to me, but it was fine. The Life sketch was great. The birthing one made me cringe but I found humor in it. I teach high school, so I hear about most artists from my students. I liked Cardi B enough to read her background and download some of her tunes. I've always loved female rappers and wish there were more of them. Cardi B gave me a Left Eye vibe (RIP). I'll take Cardi over Migos, who most of my students also despise, by the way. -
I felt bad for him because he was completely on tilt and getting pissed off, but I see what you mean. If he'd done better I wouldn't have liked him at all! Unlike our contestants, I had a great game. I had Cymbaline, Reynard from it judt recently having been a TS, Roberta Frost DD, Dickinson, Lord Byron, Sudan plan, Singapore chore, Valentino, and FJ in an instaget. After Dominick's response I checked and was surprised to learn that Mexico is sometimes considered part of Central America. Did anyone else laugh at Lindbergh for Sully? Wow.

I wrote something similar in my notes. Of course, I was writing that before all the contestants' answers were revealed. I was thinking Kristin's wager would put her in jeopardy (pun intended) because I knew Jack would've gone all in. Jack must be younger than he looks to have missed The Fugitive. At least he picked a movie from the 90s that TLJ was in, so I can't be too hard on him for his guess. I recently re-watched Double Jeopardy, with TLJ and Ashley Judd, but I knew it wasn't nominated for anything. We were talking about it in my street law class and how it gets the entire concept of Double Jeopardy wrong. There I go babbling again... On topic: I should stop listening to the interviews. Alex made a comment during Jack's interview; it was his reaction to finding out Jack's girlfriend also had a hockey stick. Does Alex not realize we women folk can play hockey too? Maybe I'm being overly critical, but that interview irritated me. My gets were knock, Mario Puzo DD, Africa, and FJ. One last comment: there was an accounting clue in that XYZ category that made me think they were looking for more than just "year to date." I'll have to wait to see how it was actually worded, but I spent most of my time trying to work out the other acronyms. Alex's emphasis on soft was irritating to me. I hate when he does that, which makes the contestants look bad. He's a tool.

I'll chip in on the University of vs. State University conversation. My alma maters are the University of Pennsylvania (which we call Penn) and the University of Arizona, which people here in Tucson call "Zona" but most people call Arizona. I often have to specify the University of Pennsylvania because a lot of people don't understand that Penn is not Penn State, and I wonder if the judges would accept an answer of "Penn" when they're looking for the U of Penn. I'm thinking about this too much now, so I'll move on... My gets were Thornton Wilder, coal, Bayer Aspirin, medical marijuana, Zambeezi, and FJ. I don't think I've ever been able to say I had an instaget in a classical music category, so that was exciting for me. Lydia should have been on the day before for that Lydia category they had.

That was a very good game, although FJ surprised me. I thought they'd all get it immediately. It was easier than a college tournament level question, so I guess Alex was wrong about how well Emily would fit in for that tournament! I ran the Reese Witherspoon category, much to my surprise. I don't dislike her, and I love Election, but I didn't realize I'd seen so many of her movies. I had 3 point landing, Lutheranism, Sandra Cisneros, poacher (duh), and FJ in an instaget. Ha! I said blasé for that one. I can't remember the question though.
-
I guessed Arizona instead of Montana because we have copper mines here. It didn't match the rest of the clue, though.
-
I liked Emily's interview and think she's just really serious when she plays. She's probably fun to hang out with. Jen looked like Katie Holmes to me. I liked all three contestants today. I always love a baseball category and was shocked Alex didn't mention how two women did so well in a sports category. He did give us a too young to remember comment, just as they started the ancient history category. He's such a tool. I was surprised both boards got clear with all those TS's. My gets were two and two together, international relations, Raymond Carver (a personal favorite), iron curtain DD, Nixon, Jolt (Mountain Dew was a strange guess), champagne, The Carpenters, Cheech & Chong, elder care, Indian Ocean, Roman Empire, and final just based on Colorado's nickname and the time frame of Grant's presidency. Off topic: I can't say Utes without saying "two Utes" ala My Cousin Vinny.

Emily and Joey both had voices I didn't like, so I was rooting for the champ to repeat. I think Joey's DD failure made him afraid to wager properly in FJ, or he really doesn't like musical theater. FJ wasn't an instaget for me. The Bodyguard is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time, but I think even someone who isn't a fan would've gotten FJ right. I had Apartheid, pascal, mother, sphinx, Last Temptation of Christ, and blasting cap. Didn't htry recently ask about Pascal?

For me, the first music I think about with the 60s is Motown, which is what my parents grew up listening to and was my first exposure to music. Alex is a tool, though, so there's nothing new about that. He had blood clots removed from his brain.
-
It was a surprisingly pleasant game for me, but I was too busy to write down anything. FJ was an instaget. I wasn't surprised by Katy's wager. She didn't seem very confident the whole game. Maybe she was nervous. I was surprised Johnny started at the top after how yesterday's game went. He didn't bother me at all today, even though I also hate his beard.

Sorry, PPAL. We haven't had new episodes in so long the discussion has been a way for us to chat! I'll knock it off, though.
-
I agree about the categories. When I watch old episodes of Jeopardy, the contrast between then and now is jarring. It was way more no-nonsense. I appreciate them trying to lighten up the tone of the show, but I'm not sure who they're doing it for, and it does feel like it's a bit too much.
-
I stand corrected, as usual. I still would've been judged correctly based on my pronunciation, so neener neener neener!

Two snaps in Z formation!

I feel like In Living Color's Men on Film: HATED IT! It's criminal to me that we only saw one of those Emmy clues. I guess none of them are tv fans. I also yelled at the TV that they'd have had no trouble with the removing an O category of they'd started from the top. Ugh. My gets were Grest Britain, Metropolitan Museum of Art, the 17 DD, groove/grove, Mediterranean (spelled correctly), and Google/Gogle (never heard of Gogle but figured it out based on the category). FJ was an instaget. Off topic: The streets in my sister's neighborhood are all Canterbury Tales. She lives on Franklin Tale. The main drag is called Chaucer Lane. I always thought that was pretty cool.

No; we say "wooder." As in, "I'm going to Rita's to get a 'wooder' ice; do you want one?" I still slip and do that if I'm not thinking about it. Also "dog" is pronounced more like "dawg." So my students laugh at me when I say "hot dogs."
-
That's the kind of board-hopping I hate, the kind I don't understand. If someone starts in the middle and works down over and over, it seems to bother me less. After the DDs were both uncovered by him, why did he keep doing that? It was annoying.
-
Ugh what a hard way to lose, although knowing the FJ answer would've made it not matter. Lynn has a wife and an adopted son, so I'm glad my gaydar isn't completely broken. I'm also glad Daniel didn't win, with all his clicking. My gets were 409, smudging, bellicose, pot belly stove, Ashley Judd, scorpion, and FJ. I thought some of the TS's were pretty easy, but I guess that's what one feels when they know the answers. I'm not sure about Tristan. He certainly started that second round strong.
-
Of course it doesn't. My gaydar is so off I dated a straight woman for months before she told me she'd never dated a woman until I asked her out. But I'll save that story for my interview with Alex. Lol. I don't think you were stereotyping, by the way. I belong to a bunch of minority groups, but I have a sense of humor about myself. And I hate when people get offended for me.

I enjoyed all three contestants today. As a fellow butch woman, I laughed when FJ was about Lesbos and hoped Lynn would get it right. I sure did. Natasha's interview about living with 13 birds sounds like a nightmare to me. I precalled Alfred E. Neumann and David E. Kelly. I thought there might be an EE Cummings clue but there wasn't. My gets were Lloyd's of London, Lebanon, Lewis, and Texas.

I agree. The TV lawyer one was up my alley too. I think Pizarro was my online weak category today.

I usually love March Madness. I'm getting all the episodes I missed when my antenna was on the fritz. My alma mater got embarrassed by Buffalo, so I am loving March Madness less this year but enjoying new to me episode's of TPC.
-
She was pouting so much today! Now I know why all her interviews are stories from her childhood. She never left it. I had New York Post, De Soto, Aly McBeal, and FJ. I'm glad Rebecca won, but it was a frustrating game to watch. I liked all the categories and knew they wouldn't clear the boards.
